Nerfing is only a bad idea in this community because seemingly no one can accept that their crutch weapon was broken and in need of tuning. "Buff other stuff" is the classic response that takes zero thought.

Buffs take zero thought and nerfs don’t? Have you sent in your application to Bungie yet because you’re exactly what they look for?
-
The notion of buffing hundreds of weapons at once just to appease the fans of one weapon takes no thought.
-
I’m not sure anyone is asking for hundreds of weapons to be buffed and certainly not all at once. Stop being so melodramatic.
-
The alternative solution people ask for is to buff other archetypes and other perks. Consider the number of weapons that could roll with any perk that could be buffed and every weapon in an unpopular archetype and I'm pretty sure there'll be hundreds.
-
It’s clear you work for Bungie.
-
I wish.
-
Isn't it nice when there's multiple Bungie workers responding on forum posts?
-
It was okay considered how difficult it was and is to get it. Rare stuff has to be OP.
-
That's deluded thinking. Rare stuff has to be worth working for, whether it be because it's good, it's unique or it just feels nice. By no means does rare stuff have to be OP.
-
Lol no, in a game predominantly nerfed it's far from the right answer. The sentiment is quite the opposite, why -blam!- good gear just because it's good? These cheap fixes are done with zero thought, and is one thing that lead to the horrible release of D2.
-
Why nerf gear that makes every other item obsolete and is always equipped by the majority of the players? This was a legendary shotgun that kept pace with Exotic power weapons and became a win condition in Gambit. Good gear doesn't get nerfed, OP gear that becomes a crutch gets nerfed.
-
How is bringing other gear up to it such a hard concept for you nerfherders? They're just going to add another weapon that melts, or simply another way will be found. Then it'll get bitched about and subsequently nerfed, nothing will change and the game suffers for it. PvE nerfs are -blam!-.
-
How is it appropriate for there to be one clear outlier and think the correct solution is to make another 100 or so weapons be as powerful as it instead of bringing that one back in line? It's a slippery slope. Buff every special weapon to be on par with IKELOS means you'll need to buff Power weapons to be actually powerful and not worse than Special weapons. Then you need to balance the enemies around the capabilities of the souped-up Special and Power weapons. That means Primary weapons are in need of a buff because they can't do their jobs as mob-killers. With that, you're in the same spot as if you'd nerfed one weapon, except your weapons are twice as strong but it's unnoticeable against the enemies because they too are twice as strong. Either that or you make the game so bland and uninteresting because your weapon choice is meaningless as you'll crush the game anyway.
-
You do know this fits the exact opposite way, and that was D2 vanilla. This game is supposed to have power fantasy and they keep -blam!-ing it up. What I want to know now are you saying this from a PvE or PvP perspective?
-
Primarily PvE but the wording could be adjusted to make it fit PvP.
-
You know I'll just end this here as we'll never agree, I hate nerfs because to me they've -blam!-ed the game in the long run.
-
Nerfing is a bad idea in any game that requires you to invest large amounts of time for a special weapon. Why would I want to invest my time in anything knowing that I could log in tomorrow and that thing I grinded for, be destroyed? And then to add insult to injury, you now want me to pay you $40.00 to grind more for things that I have no faith will retain the same value to me the next day? Nah...
-
When grinding for something, it's fairly obvious, from the reactions of people who already it, whether or not it'll get nerfed. This one was a long time coming. Go grind for the Duty Bound AR or something, that's rare, is a good AR for it's archetype, is unique and will certainly not get nerfed tomorrow morning.
-
Yeah f*ck our time and effort grinding for these weapons. What's the point of grinding for any other weapons if they're just gonna nerf them into the ground.
-
It hardly got nerfed to the ground. It’s still just as good as it was before tbh, maybe better in some circumstances because people are more aware of having to reapply trench barrel.
-
What's the point of Bungie making hundreds of weapons when they know that the people with influence on the community will say "use these 3 and nothing else ever" and all the mindless sheep will follow without question?
-
Why do you care if all the mindless sheep use the same 3 weapons? You can still think for yourself if you want to. In case you might actually be a sheep without knowing, I’m telling you that you can use whatever weapons you want in the game. You’re welcome.
-
When those three weapons get nerfed as a result of overuse and being overpowered, a la IKELOS Shotgun, all their users flood to the forums and complain that it isn't their fault and the nerf is unwarranted.
-
Why do you think they are over used? Answer. Because Bungie doesn’t make enough powerful weapons. But according to you buffing weapons is thoughtless. So what the hell point are you even arguing for? I can’t imagine you aren’t just trolling though so carry on.

Edited by Hawpy: 12/2/2018 6:05:21 AMI'm arguing because people need to realise that more often than not, it's their fault that their favourite weapon gets nerfed. The goal of the buffs and nerfs is to promote variety, but if one particular archetype and perk set is even 1% better than everything else, the players will flock to it, use it to death, then complain when the Bungie suggest it needs tweaking. Maybe it's not that Bungie don't make enough powerful weapons, maybe it's that you're too used to using the exceptional weapon such that what feels powerful to some feels bad to you.
