I swear.
Whoever came up with the idea of walling off access to the Malfeasance quest behind winning against a rare spawning boss in a COMPETITIVE game mode needs to never be listened to again.
Because they don’t understand the BASICS of how a quest works in an RPG.
The whole point of a quest is to empower the player to get a certain item by putting them in control of events.
This “quest” for a signature weapon used to market this expansion is:
1. Walled of behind a competitive event. So the player has no control over who they’re playing against.
2. Is walled off behind RNG. So they have no control over when the boss spawns.
3. Is then time gated so two out of three weeks the boss spawn rate is stupidly low
4. There is no skill matching or efforts to match teams against teams.
5. THEN THE ONE WEEK WHERE THE SPAWN RATE IS THE HIGHEST, YOU DECIDE TO HAVE A GAMBIT PROMOTION THAT FLOODS THE GAME WITH PEOPLE WHO BARELY KNOW HOW TO PLAY!!!!
Result?
Bungie you have effective (and arbitrarily) locked an entire class of player out of access to the quest.
I’m a daily player who is nearing his second reset of Infamy rank, and have only had the Ascendant Prime spawn twice before this weekend. Both losses.
In the last 24 hours I’ve had the Prime spawn four times...again, all LOSSES as a solo queue player. But what is rage-inducing is that only ONE of the losses was even a close match.
That’s right. I’m 0-for-6 as a solo queue player... with no apparent end in sight.
This. Is. Ridiculous.
It would be absolutely laughable if it weren’t such a sad example of what NOT to do....
...and this partly why my clan is for all-intents-and-purposes....dead.
This is why you’re constantly facing accusations of hating solo players, and why my clan of adult gamers are off playing other RPGs right now.
You design things into the game—-especially on the pvp side—and it’s like you give no thought whatsoever as to what the individual player’s experience will be like as a result.
How long do you really think someone like me is going to put up with something like this before they simply stop playing the game mode?
When you force players to play your game in ways that they do not want, and do not enjoy ( having to work through LFG to have any reasonable chance at gaining access to a QUEST, for God’s Sake), people don’t comply with what is your clear agenda here.
They quit.
And right now this game is on too shaky a footing and has too much emerging competition to be pushing ANYONE out of the game.

2 RepliesSince I have Malfeasance, I think I’m supposed to say “git gud” and talk about entitled casuals. However, RNG to start a quest is absolutely poor design. Agreed.
-
I can barely stomach Gambit at this point. If I get it, I get it. Otherwise I'm not grinding for it, especially after this past weekend when it supposedly was dropping more but myself and my clan mates who were trying for it never once saw it. RNG in a quest is absolutely trash.

I remember the thorn quest for y3 too 😑

3 RepliesI hear ya Kelly. It took me forever to even see the Meatball. Killing that inflamed taken butthole twice with blueberries is my proudest accomplishment in Destiny 2. It felt like such a relief to finally activate that quest. With that being said, I completely agree. This is terrible game design. It is my opinion that the RnG aspect of this game is deliberate on Bungie's part. They are actively trying to artificially drag out content. Their end goal seems to be that of artificially inflating playtime. Make future quests non-RnG based so that Guardians have a direct path towards obtaining that which they are after.
-
1 ReplyJust wait until you get until the last step of the quest. Then it becomes a real grind. At first I thought it might take a couple days to complete this step. Now I am wondering if it will get done in a couple weeks. Get the Malfeasance as soon as you can. As you might have heard, Bungie has changes planned that will make Gambit worse than it is already. It won't be worth playing in the future. Bungie never seems to accept that most of the daily players are exclusively solo players. Even those who are in clans are not playing with clan members every session. They also play solo to accomplish a personal goal in the game, or because their clan members are unavailable.

7 RepliesEdited by Leo: 11/14/2018 2:46:55 PMmain problem I see with your post "all LOSSES as a solo queue player"... why?... when you can just go on LFG and find a gambit team giving you a better chance for wins. Its mind boggling why people try to solo this gamemode where you have no control of what randoms do. Solution to your problem: Find a team... problem solved. Now stop your crying man.

Feel your pain, First meat ball spawn since game came out, and I was playing the promo week, and had the most greenest team of no bodies ever
-
1 ReplyI beat the meatball; have the quest... ...and I'm losing interest...in the game... Not because the shooting isn't good (very best out there), but the whole low RNG drop thing and doing the same stuff over and over just has me thinking I'm continually being taken advantage of like a mouse in a maze. I'll get back to it sometime (maybe soon). Going to at least start RDR2 and see if it is any good. When does the next Halo come out???

Agreed.

4 RepliesI agree. Rng on a quest is absurd. With that said people take this shit way too seriously. I finaly saw the boss last thursday for the first time, yes for the first time. I got lucky and we killed it. I was not even trying to get it. My mindset was if it happens it happens while i complete gambit milestones. Again i do fully agree rng for quest needs to never happen again.

9 RepliesEdited by Wrathchild: 11/12/2018 10:09:13 PMHow I got Malfeasance: Step 1: not care about the quest. No, seriously, having zero interest at all in playing more games of Gambit beyond the required daily/weekly amount needed for powerful drops. Step 2: express this to your clanmates when the subject is brought up. Step 3: play a single game of Gambit (or in my case the only game I had played thus far that week) Step 4: encounter the meatball on the second round Step 5: kill the meatball Step 6: now care about completing the quest Step 7: kill a bunch of taken mini-bosses in the Dreaming City (e.g. farm Blind Well for a little while) Step 8: complete "The Corrupted." Discover how much you really dislike that strike, and hope to never run it again. Step 9: grind gambit with your clan for the better part of a day for the wins/mote deposits, and lament over the fact that you wish the last step was switched with this one as you aren't looking forward to playing *more* Gambit to kill *more* opposing players Step 10: complete the last step in under an hour as it turns out, you're not the worst Gambit player out there Step 11: get the gun. Try it out. Discover how underwhelming it is for the amount of RNG/work involved. Pity the people who actually do all this stuff on purpose, having invested hours upon hours of time just to begin the quest (or have yet to and are still at it). And finally, go back to not giving a shit about Gambit.

3 RepliesYou guys wanted grind, so Bungie gave you grind.
-
1 ReplyUnfortunately this is everything in this game right now. It's either pure luck or a horrid grind to get something you want. The streamers went to Bungie and told them this is the way the game should be, so Bungie went from one extreme (Vanilla Lootapalooza) to the other (making you question your life choices).
Because they don’t understand the BASICS of how a quest works in an RPG.
Destiny isn't a standard RPG. Anything you get in the game can be used against other players in the crucible/gambit/etc. which is how mmorpg's work. Have you ever played an mmorpg? These are BASIC principles of mmorpg's. You've waited for a boss, got him, and failed to kill him 6 times? Back in the day, I tanked hundreds, if not thousands, of bosses in Runescape's god war dungeons just for a half percent chance at an armor drop. As there are no requirements to start the malfeasance quest, the difficulty becomes winning that one special boss round. I'm glad they don't just give it out, and I'll proudly display my own malfeasance when I get it for myself.

Two things I agree with you fully there’s a lot of things going wrong with this game right now and if activisions words are anything they are a warning that if the next dlc doesn’t do well ( news flash it won’t because this game is dying and dying quickly ) they will hide stuff behind paywalls and micro transactions on top of quests behind pvp. See a lot of the issues aren’t just bungie it’s activision as well. That being said I understand the not having people to play with I have maybe 10 players in my clan that are online regularly and by luck the four of us that do play more often managed to beat the boss to get that quest. But something that was never taken into account when designing that quest was people who can’t seem to understand that this is a video game and cheat to win. That is and forever will be the biggest flaw with destiny and one of many factors as to why players keep leaving. On top of the fact that they just keep giving the game away and giving out free gambit weekends like candy whenever they choose which drives more people out. Neither company should be working together because one doesn’t understand how to build a server to save their lives p2p is how cheating happens and how you expose people’s information to dangerous individuals. The other has their heads so far up their own asses that they release the same garbage pvp game every year slap a new paint coat on it and call it a new game. When you see that then it becomes clear that even if d3 doesn’t have the plugged pulled on it and chances are it might if activision continues to be unhappy with destiny there is always going to be the same problems. But if you would like a clan that will play gambit with you my group is always recruiting and as I said you have a few regularly active players and those of us that are active would be more than willing to help you out

1 ReplyThe quests in destiny 2 feel quite meager compared to “the taken king” and “rise of iron”.
-
4 RepliesI've given up caring about that gun. I've seen the boss twice and both times it's been on the second round after we've annihated the team in the first round. Hence the bungie catch up bullshit kicks in and we lose. -blam!- it. Lol

1 Replynot everyone who plays gambit is incompetent. plus RNG is a big part of this game.. it always has been. Destiny 1 had the Thorn exotic quest locked behind RNG. but i hear you, it sucks to not have control over a quest. i just go along with it and NOT focus so much with what i dont have in the game. if you focus on it too long, you’ll get angry posts similar to yours lol. eventually, it’ll happen. RNG in any game means nothing is guaranteed but there are ways to increase your chances.. just go along with that and eventually luck will start to favor u (u never know, mayb ur RNG luck is currently in other parts of the game.. for instance, u may hav some of the best forsaken exotic armor or weapons pieces already while some of us are still waiting.. or maybe ur getting god-tier rolls on ur weapons. sometimes it be like that..)

1 ReplyEdited by Grimey Dark: 11/13/2018 12:49:58 PMI got the quest, but I don't even care about it. Will probably not even bother finishing it. Wish I could pass it on to you my man
-
3 RepliesI came back for forsaken so I’ve been playing regularly. I have only seen said boss once and I have three characters. I’m just on the third stage in the quest. I agree with everything you’re saying. I honestly believe the RNG system in this game is broken, people don’t have “bad luck” ( at least not as bad as they do in this game) it’s properly broken. Gambit could be so good, but there are way too many technical issues that make the game frustrating. Alongside what you said I’d like to add: Pick up radius of motes. Motes not registering when you pass over them. The catch up mechanics (terrible idea) Lack of enemies at critical times in the game. Lag (I’d say lag has a lot to do with 2 out of 4 in my list) Oh and people who keep calling for weapon nerfs need to be shot and killed.
-
1 ReplyI thinks it's fine. I mean for me it took no effort in getting this quest and I'm a solo player. I finally took care of the corrupted quest. Still haven't done the the collecting mote and wins in gambit part. I haven't had the time but I'll eventually will do it.
-
I feel your pain. I knew this was going to be the case in my part as a solo player... so I prepared: I brought a tractor cannon, saved my nova bomb, void weapons... meatball ded, D.E.D., it ded. Got the quest and went two n’ oh. Hope this helps... there’s a light at the end of the tunnel. Have nice day. 👍😄

1 ReplyLocking the ship or sparrow behind a low chance to spawn boss + no longer a guarantee is absurd. However if you've got the boss 6 times and lost each one it's time to look at the common denominator. I dont see anything wrong with a guaranteed quest drop locked behind a rare spawning boss that has more mechanics then other primevils

1 ReplyI know that you win more gambit matches with a team because there’s communication. I’m couple hundred points shy to my 7th reset and all I can say is I love the thrill of playing hide and seek when invading or getting invaded so gambit is fun for me. There’s resources out there like this companion app’s built in lfg feature. Being in a team is better than playing solo because gambit is co op and you really need to communicate and have a game plan to succeed... and also because Destiny 2 is a type of game that gets so booooring when you’re solo and have no one to talk and do things with. It gets even more boring when you reach end game and get all the things that you want. That’s just how it is but hey why play if you don’t like what you’re playing? I have 25 raid completions missing 3 more forsaken exotic weapons. Got the Dredgen title and Malfeasance gun drops including the emblem and when I got all of that I’m like “Ok now what?” My point is there’s no reason to get frustrated about a video game. You don’t need to prove D2 is crap and how it’s losing more and more people because of let downs and disappointments we’ all see that. Ask yourself if there’s anything in this game that keeps you from leaving and if there’s still some left then focus on those and make them better.

I've gotten the Malfeaseance boss over 6x solo and won 4x solo. Have it on all chars now.... Solo.
