so there i am in a pvp match and im on pc so we have the message thing. anyway our team loses the lead so i put "lets bring it back" in the messages and the stack that i matched with start firing insults at me and this one guy asks me why im at the bottom of the leader board so i say cause im not a shotgun crutch and he says i can still play well with a snipe so he puts one on and doesn't get a single kill for the rest of the match but he is persistent and he continues to insult me about my name. so i go ahead and block him but all of this could have been avoided if people where just less toxic in generall (btw this has happend like 7 time before so its no rare thing)

The problem here is that you instantly insulted his play style in return , by calling his play style a shotgun crutch which only added to the toxicity rather than diffuse the situation . People are going to be turds and you can’t control that , you can control how you react and respond and that is how you remove toxicity . One person at a time choosing to be the better man and either ignoring , or responding with zero toxicity .

I get on the forums, just to enjoy the toxicity, during lunch. Yesterday people bitching about 4 stacks in gambit. Today people bitching about not dropping motes to summon the prime evil. ( most likely because your not playing with a four stack.) People crying for nerfs on everything in crucible, this class is underated ,this super is op. Their should be ques for solo players. Forgot competitive is to hard. I don't usually respond to any of them, but I do look up stats, and the common denominator is they aren't very good.( The people who post). I'm not great at pvp,but I'm not going to post that this needs nerfed and that needs nerfed. I just deal with it and enjoy destiny for what it is a game, not a measuring stick of how successful I am in life. Not once while interviewing for a job, spending time with my wife or dealing with my kidshave I been asked about my kd or how many raid completions I have. Saying all this, don't stop with the toxic posts,I enjoy the reads at lunch.

21 RepliesEdited by TheUnholyRose: 10/19/2018 7:21:14 AMBecause gaming isn't the way it use to be. Once upon a time, you could just go into a match and goof around. It was ok because everyone would goof around too and it was a blast. Then, sometime around 2012 ish, everything became hyper competitive. Like every match was life or death and a loss would steal your organs or something. It got more and more serious over the years, as people started tossing around the word meta like it was oxygen to breathe. If it wasnt the best possible thing to use (as per your shotgun reference), it was shunned and suddenly you were throwing the oh so important match. It only got worse as every manchild worth their salt began to flood youtube with videos like "insert weapon here" is it worth using? It was cheap and easy content and they profited with almost no effort by doing so. Naturally everyone who took gaming too seriously flocked to these videos like a fat kid to cake. Now everyone thinks that K/D matters, that winning is the only importance in the game. Competitive, quickplay, its all the same to these people. A win somehow validates the lifeless hours they've wasted into that one game and a loss is worse than death itself. Everything equipped must be a meta or a counter, no such thing as fun these days in multiplayer scenes. Anyways, long read. But thats why. Sorry you had a rough night man, hope it gets better.

That would require people to not lash out when angry, or take responsibility for their mistakes. Add in the anonymity of the internet, and you get a fluster cluck that is pvp games.
-
This is the internet. Telling people to be less toxic is like telling fish not to swim. It's impossible.

so there i am in a pvp match
Well, there's your problem.

4 RepliesI’ll take toxic assheads over posts like this anytime.

It’s Bungie, for some reason of all the developers that make games, I have noticed that This game in particular (which Bungie developed, obviously) is the MOST toxic out of all of them, even CoD which is really saying something. I don’t know if it’s the age group, younger, older, male, female....But this game seems to draw the most hateful players of any game I’ve ever played. I haven’t played fortnight or overwatch so I can include those games, but I’ve played countless others between Xbox and PS as well as some P.C. back in the day.

28 RepliesIf you are dead weight, I'll let you know. If you give me lip for communicating that we need to capture our points immediately after a Powerplay, I'll make sure to shame your score to the rest of our team. If you have a negative KDR at the end of the game, I'll let everyone know. Even more so if you are playing with your clan mates and you are all at the bottom of the scoreboard. Quit being bad and git gud. Your parents would be less proud of you if they knew that along with wasting your time playing a video game that you also drag your team mates down.

Anonymity does horrible things to people, my advice to you would be to just not engage with randoms. Even had you not typed anything, the group you were matched with would still likely have flamed you, because you’re the easiest and most immediate thing for a group to blame.

-blam!- those guys. You use a shotgun. Play how u want.

Welcome to faceless interactions with the true humans. People most often act accordingly when they have a chance of being punched in the face. Welcome to the disconnect.

Edited by Killa Karizma: 10/20/2018 9:59:19 PMWelcome to the internet...where everyone can speak freely behind a monitor. It's just talk and only words. Show up at their doorstep and it's a completely different story lol.

Your first problem was playing on pc
-
You’re just asking people to be more toxic. First time on the internet computer machine?
-
I live in Flint, Michigan. I drank the water for years on end. I have no choice, but to be toxic.
-
I c-can’t breathe.....
-
Those guys are talk, that’s probably one of the lowest levels of toxicity. Sometimes people can get toxic and it can get really ugly sometimes. Don’t let words get you down, because that’s not even the worst of it. Eyes up, Guardian.
-
It’s just words. Annoying, absolutely, but don’t ever let words get you down. If that’s what they are doing, then they are insecure and you instilled fear in them somehow. Just smile and let them talk while you focus. Keep up your good attitude, we need team players like you.

The hunter started it..

I think it's incredibly naive to expect every human to be perfectly nice and welcoming all the time.

In truth friend, it is because people feel powerful behind a screen and say things they would think twice about saying face to face. It is sadly the way the world has become as a whole. Not everyone are like this, some choose to take the higher ground and act appropriately. It just comes down to people not having respect for one another, and it is sad. I mean, it’s just a game. Yes, it has competitive aspects, but can’t we all just be good sports?
-
3 RepliesI agree. I don't understand why people are duplicitous online. I mean, would you behave like this with family and friends, or at work?
