Dear Bungie,
On behalf of the all the other deaf guardians out there, the raid is, if not impossible, extremely hard without some form of communication. VoG? I did it, Crota's End? Did it. But the Leviathan? I am either A, left with nobody to take me because of my hearing impairment or B, left with an impossible task. I know you want communication focused tasks but please, please think of the deaf community. Thank you for taking a time to read this. As I don't go on here a lot if you want to ask questions or talk to me my GT is kaseinoboruto.
Edit:
Wow! Thank you all for your support! To the people who say that Bungie shouldn't "have to cater to the hearing impaired" or that they can't make an all inclusive game, let me bring up some points. It's not hard at all to make a call out system for the raid... and they have a color blind fixer, why can't they just take an hour and add in call-outs?
Edit 2: Thank you to everyone with an actual intellectual opinion (: For the trolls, go back to 4Chan please. Another note, I understand money is an issue, always is. I am simply suggesting this as an interchangeable setting (like the color blindness) that for the raids would replace your emotes with text call-outs. Thank you.
Edit 3: Thank you all so much for the kindness, I can't go through all the replies so if you would like to play with me or message me I have Xbox, GT is kaseinoboruto
Edit 4: okay, I messed up, there's spaces -.- sorry Kasei No Boruto
Edit 5: Trolls- https://youtu.be/NY9UZI1OUMI
Edit 6: I just want to thank you all for the support on this issue, I did not think this would take off like it did (: hopefully Bungie starts to take notice of this, thank you all for bringing this into the light.
Edit 7: Great news! Thanks to Geek in Tinfoil and squad I completed Leviathan! Thank you guys so much for all the support
Edit 8: Hey guys, if you can go ahead and share this post with friends or others it would be greatly apreciated, just trying to spread awareness. Either Bungie hasn't seen it or they're just ignore it at this point.

I'm glad you finally cleared the raid, but I wouldn't hold your breath for Bungie to add in ways for the hearing impaired to have help. It took Bungie this long just to have more than 1 emote changeable and still no in-game chat or reasonable match making or trying to make PvE and PvP balanced by their own. I think it also took Bungie a year just to add in support for different types of color blindness.

I wouldn't get your hopes up to much as remember we are talking about the same developer who when they finally get round to fixing it will have taken over 12 months to sort out a way to mass delete shaders!

Way to go. I do not know you but I have been following this & I am very stoked for you. Set your goals high because you can do whatever you set your mind to. I have a disability also. Not the same as yours but it is still a struggle sometimes. I never let it get in the way of my life or what I want to do. I have a feeling you are that way to.

5 Repliesliar! there are no grills on the interwebz! only 30 year old men and FBI agents! cereal though; raid call-out emotes. Z4KU II sees a CHALICE in the shadow-realm

A callout system like the one in fortnite could work (i hate fortnite but the callout system i pretty good). They shouldn't change the raids so that people with disabilities have an easier time doing them but a callout system wouldn't change anything for people without disabilities. They should also make the new raids less based on mechanics. I mean compare the templar to val ca'uor. Pick up the shield, shoot the thing, damage the boss and repeat. You can do that entire encounter without communication. Some communication definetely helps but you can still do it without it. It also doesn't matter if two or three people die because there's no mechanics that require a certain amount of people. I miss the simpler raids that didn't wipe the entire team if one person didn't do their part perfectly..

11 RepliesI just don’t understand how people can be so rude and discriminatory to a deaf person just trying to seek help. What is wrong with people nowadays. You’re just losers

Edited by SAVAG3 B3AR: 7/6/2018 2:11:31 PMI really hope Bungie sees this and implements it. Get to it Bungie! P.S. Glad to see you finished Leviathan raid.

1 ReplyReally surprised Bungie didn’t respond to this. Would it be too demanding to implement an in-game text / chat function? Hardly ground breaking is it, unless there’s a genuine reason not to? To the players in the community that say there’s no issues here and everything is fine the way it is —- things are not fine!

Well typed and extremely well argued. You've very well pointed out the extreme tone deafness of Bungie towards solo players. Regardless of why players fly solo in this game, whether by choice or because of your issue which is the impossibility of voice communication, Bungie continues to make this game inequitable for those who fly solo. And that's why I won't be buying Forsaken. It's not because I don't like the content or I think Crucible sux or because the game is boring or any one of all the other whines I routinely read in these forums. It's because solo players, regardless of why they play solo, are treated as second class, second rate and unworthy players in this game. The only worthless people here are Bungie's staff who are now unworthy of any more of my money.

Edited by Zeldafan92: 7/5/2018 4:05:34 AMI sympathize with your plight of being a deaf player, and find myself very annoyed at the half assed solutions and workarounds that people are currently fielding you in place of what needs to be done... What needs to be done is to implement a text based chat feature into the game like Bungie's doing for the PC segment of the game , but don't apparently have the common sense to add this useful communication tool for the entire rest of the game . This could help the entire community Bungie, cause as much as you try to avoid it , for a supposedly social game you lack tools in your game that help people socialize with each other, and instead of addressing that you let lfgs , console party chats , third party apps and all other manner of things do your job for you.

1 ReplyI did oryx back in the day with a def fellow for the challenge. Lots of txt but he rocked at runner and the guys I found on lfg to make it happen couldn't believe it. Honestly one of my best moments I've had playing

The sad reality is: the deaf gamer community is a very very small group. Developers will focus more on everyone else.
-
Frankly I am of the opinion that there should be text chat. At the very least party chat. There are chatpads that make text pretty quick. It is rather unfair imo that pc is the only platform to get it and even then only clan. Pretty much all other mmos have text, why not this? I wouldn’t even care if there wasn’t a zone/social channel though that would be nice, but at least party....
-
If they can have an emote wheel they can have a call out text wheel too. Get on it bungo. Might be useful for those who aren’t deaf too. Maybe too much sound chaos is going on but you need to send out a reminder that everyone can just read above your head.

We have 3 deaf lads in our clan, 2 of which play regularly and we always find a way to get through the raids. We have a clan WhatsApp group for tactics etc and one of the others knows BSL so he skypes the guys and relays information also. We live in the roaring 20s of the technological age, use the tools at your disposal friend.

I would be fine with them adding this. However, I would rather have them investing their resources into fixing the game because of the state it is in. If Forsaken is successful, I think this would be a fine addition as if you had a call out system you could also help out people without microphones, and possibly help people understand the call outs better.
-
2 RepliesQuestion can you do emote when holding the charge?
-
1 ReplyTotally agree. It would be pretty easy to allow for numpad call outs for each raid/raid lair encounter...on PC. While you can type info in chat, using macros is forbidden so these would need to be allowances on Bungie's part. And frankly these settings would be great for non hearing impaired as well. Been on a lot of raids where people had mic issues or needed to mute because of stuff going on in the background.
-
1 ReplyI'm raiding with people with no mic from time to time, never had big problems. The only thing you need is to ask people to use chat instead of voicechat I believe.
-
6 RepliesI love this thread, it lets me know which asshats I need to perma mute so I never lfg with them.
-
9 RepliesI would just like to say, I have just completed the raid with kasei, she didn't put a foot wrong and completed the raid in under and hour gametime! Onto Eater of world's next!!
