2 Rasputins?
According to warmind, the Rasputin we met in D1 is fragments of Rasputin on mars. but these "Fragments" took control of almost every system in D1, does this mean the Fragments recombined into a new Rasputin before warmind?

24 RepliesIt's a massive retcon. Originally there were meant to be 7 warminds - Rasputin was Earth's and the one on Mars was Charlemagne. I can't even tell anymore if they're deliberately retconning massive things left right and centre, or if it's just a series of accidents because they keep turning over their narrative team.

No, D1 Rasputin was basically retconned. It was well established that he was originally stuck on earth until the player completed the “Last Array” mission. From that point on, he had access to all systems that were previously controlled by other warminds before the collapse. Of course, this is all just “folklore” thanks to lazy writers who don’t care to fact check their own game.

That's something a lot of people are confused about. If they didn't Recombine, we are looking at two different Rasputins who are both in control of WOMD. That's probably not a good thing.

He is ai code and can be transfered but controls himself he was stuck on earth untill we connected him again with the satellite dish allowing him to return to the mainframe on mars which in turn caused the core temperature to ellavate and the ice to thaw in warmind

7 RepliesNo what it means is bungie was too lazy to write the story or create the content required to fully explain the warminds. So they totally retconned it, and turned it into one warmind, what a -blam!-ing mess.

12 RepliesWell the problem isn't retcons. The problem is that all the knowledge the Vanguard has is based off of records that might be damaged or incomplete. Remember that the Collapse happened [i]centuries[/i] before the current date in the Destiny universe, much information and knowledge has been lost to time and the elements. The Vanguard [i]assumed[/i] that Raputin was on Earth, they were wrong. It's far from the first time that they were wrong about something too. They're not all knowing, they can and have made mistakes.

8 RepliesRetcon. Like Luke Smith said. D1 was “comic book zero” and D2 is a “soft reboot”. However it can explain why Rasputin went from being possibly dangerous in 1 to just being “misunderstood” and a good guy in 2.

5 RepliesWe never really learned what Rasputin actually was and where he was made. Warmind cleared it up. There’s no multiple Warmind’s (Charlemagne, Joyeuse etc), there’s one Warmind: Rasputin, and multiple Subminds for each other planet. Charlemagne is Mars’ Submind, Joyeuse is Io’s Submind..

4 Repliesaccording to the story of Warmind DLC you defend Rasputin from Big Fat Worm and after that you will see a cinematic with Zavala. Then you start completing nascent dawn missions from Ana "the lesbian" Brey and she asks you to defend another Rasputin from another Big Fat Worm and after than you will be able to see another Zavala in another cinematic. So. That means there are 2 Rasputin's and Big Fat Worms at minimum. I don't think Bungie just copy pasted the last story mission with cinematics at the end and put it into the nascent dawn set of missions - it would be just tooo lazy and so blatant content reuse.

This is why I'm glad Year 2 isn't focused on story expansions. All Destiny in game stories end with me shooting bullet sponges until they're dead. So why even bother? I know what I have to do, I don't need a cut scene telling me why.

I believe most of the Warmind systems thoughout the solar system were laying dormant, aside from the systems on Earth which had been reactivated since the collapse. When we activated the array, the fragment of Rasputin on Earth was able to reconnect and reactivate his other systems thoughout the solar system. During the mission in the vault on Io during the Red War, Ikora states that Rasputin is stranded on Earth, and I believe that this actually means the red legion has managed to take apart Rasputin's network, so these different parts of Rasputin were still active but unable to connect. In my opinion part of Rasputin's motivation for the Warmind expansion was to re-establish, reinforce and expand his network, and become 'whole' again.
