Deej, Cozmo i need help understanding

What exactly is the purpose of pointing out that random rolls and weapon slot changes are going to be part of a free update, yet/if only DLC items will really take advantage of said changes? Now don't get me wrong, i understand the argument of why does it matter if you don't plan on getting the dlc/why just stick to the base game? My answer really is it's a matter of principle imo. I get that you guys wanted to stress this so everyone will know/think that hey maybe i can check out these changes before deciding on whether or not it's worth playing D2 again/spending more on the game, and I'm sure there are fans out there with this mindset. But again if you need the dlc to actually utilize the changes, its kind of a bummer and, to a certain extent a lie imo. Hopefully there'll be year 2 items that don't require the dlc that take advantage of random rolls and slot changes, like vanguard, crucible and factions. Otherwise it's kinda true when people say you have to pay $100+ to "fix" the game. Maybe I'm hust jumping the gun, but they've confirmed that only year 2 will have random rolls. And before anyone thinks I'm a hater of some sort, let me just say I'm not and I'm really in the position of just wanting bungie to stop going down roads that'll paint them as the bad guys. Heck I've even been on youtube videos attempting to defend against the argument that you need to spend 100+ to fix the game. Edit: for those saying that I'm just feeding into rumors and spreading without ground to stand on, here's a link to the interview that is giving me confusion.
https://www.pcgamer.com/bungie-on-why-cayde-6-must-stay-dead-and-how-the-raid-will-be-the-ultimate-culmination-of-destiny-2-forsaken/ PC Gamer: I'll start with maybe a tricky one, maybe not. With Forsaken, do you feel finally ready to answer the question of, how do I make this player's 13th Better Devils matter? Christopher Barrett: So, we're bringing back random rolls, which we heard very loud and clear from players. We had a community summit where we brought a whole bunch of players to the studio a couple months ago, and that was one of the number one things, almost unanimously. I think there were about 40 people, maybe 39 wanted random rolls back. That's a change that's coming with Forsaken, and I think that goes a long way toward making that 13th Better Devils matter. If a Better Devils drops in year two, will it now have random perks? Or will it be like it was in Year 1? And we can bring the power up through infusion? Taylor: The random rolls are gonna be focused on the Year 2 weapons, but you can infuse the Year 1 weapons and bring them with you. If you love Better Devils, by all means bring it, but you won't be getting those random perks. Will those Year 1 weapons no longer be dropping? Taylor: They will still drop, but they won't have those random perks.
Again all I'm asking for is clarity. And if year 1 weapons wont take advantage of the new changes, hopefully not all year 2 weapons will be exclusive to those who have ownership of forsaken when it drops, and we can put to rest the youtube claims that you'll need to pay 100$+ to get D2 out of beta/fix D2. • 1. You don’t need the DLC to take advantage of the weapon slot changes. 2. Live event weapons (Iron Banner and Faction Rally weapons) will drop with random rolls. 3. Year 1 weapons dropping with random rolls would basically be new content. 4. If you don’t buy the DLC you’re not going to have access to the new content or the new power levels. So I fail to see why this is an issue. The increase in DPS that will open up because of the slot changes will eclipse any changes due to weapon randomization.

What more 'clarity' do you require?
Taylor: The random rolls are gonna be focused on the Year 2 weapons, but you can infuse the Year 1 weapons and bring them with you. If you love Better Devils, by all means bring it, but you won't be getting those random perks.
This means Y1 weapons will be static. You can infuse them, but they are stuck. Notice how nothing was mentioned about masterworks. Now, for the interesting part. This is a smoke and mirrors 'politician' answer:
Christopher Barrett: So, we're bringing back random rolls, which we heard very loud and clear from players. We had a community summit where we brought a whole bunch of players to the studio a couple months ago, and that was one of the number one things, almost unanimously. I think there were about 40 people, maybe 39 wanted random rolls back. That's a change that's coming with Forsaken, and I think that goes a long way toward making that 13th Better Devils matter.
Seems clear enough..... except:
If a Better Devils drops in year two, will it now have random perks? Or will it be like it was in Year 1? And we can bring the power up through infusion? Taylor: The random rolls are gonna be focused on the Year 2 weapons, but you can infuse the Year 1 weapons and bring them with you. Taylor: They will still drop, but they won't have those random perks.
The last statements by Taylor totally contradict the earlier statement by Barrett. Bungie is in such a tizzy now that even in the same conversation they cannot keep their story straight. Anyone still think that 'Forsaken' is going to save this disastrous sequel?

      • it pretty much sucks that we've paid for a one year beta for a game that they should have figured out after the previous 3 years of D1.

Its just one thing after another after another with Bungie. They cant just give a complete game experience to enjoy, everything has to be fragmented and cut and then returned to make the next release seem more valuable or important, its just tiring. In Destiny 1 it was tolerated because we all thought D2 would keep those improvements made over the years and have something to build upon but nope they intentionally removed those improvements to drip feed them back to us for a year, not to mention the drip feeding of weapons, gear and even mechanics that are all done less effectively than in D1, its nonsense and not worth it to me.

          • I agree with you. I will not be pre-ordering Forsaken. Once it's released, I'll evaluate the changes made with Warmind DLC I have and then make a decision. I simply do not trust Bungie anymore. To many gimmicks, half truths and out right lies (i.e. hybrid Server system is actually pure Peer to Peer). Secondly given all the new games coming out within the next 6 months, Bungie will have to really wow me before I plunk down more money on changes that should have been in the game from day one, like it really takes Bungie 1 years to add in Mass Dissemble Shaders?

            • I aggree on what you said. Any changes to weapons, tuning stuff, or stuff the community asked for shouldnt count as dlc which you have to buy. But they are getting away with it every time. The last 2 dlc's just had enough "new" content that prevented them from being sued in court for not delivering what people paid for. But i have seen what E3 had to offer on new upcoming games with free dlc's and ongoing real support in terms of tunings/changes free of charge. Sounds good to me. They will feel the pain in their wallets just as we did when we bought the game+seasonpass

            • You know what..... when I sense a hint of a lie, I stop -blam!-ing with you. Same thing I do with people, I do with corporations. These people have let us down, blatantly, time after time after time. We pretty much know weapons w/o DLC will not get the benefit of the random rolls. I think we will get slot changes tho w/o DLC, right?

"Hey, remember what you all have been demanding for the past year? For us to fix the awful changes to the weapon system? Well, we're doing it! Good news is it's coming in September to EVERYONE! Bad news is, it's only on all the newest weapons and gear, so..... just click here and get that wallet out."

The true fact of the matter is you don't need everyone weapon in the game to drop as a random roll. You only really need a couple sets that cover each archetype to drop with random rolls. When every weapon drops as a random roll no weapon names really matter as they are all enterchangable in that archetype. Does this matter to me? No. I am not paying $70 in September for a broken game. What you should really be worried about is the new weapon slot system (the fact it will not work) and that bows will either be massively underpowered in lame ass pvp or massively overpowered. There is no inbetween for a slow fire rate charge up weapon like this. For your sakes you had better hope it is underpowered otherwise it will be annoying and broken as hell to deal with. This game only works with the weapon slot system it was designed to have primary special and heavy. Anything else will be unbalanced and a massive pile of crap. Case and point from d1 the universal remote and that primary sniper. All these changes are are gimmicks to rope everyone into another year of the game. Get you to pay $70 when they already know this will break the game. They even said so in the interview. Why will you not see the correct weapon slots in d2. Well that is a simple question to answer. In order to change the weapon slot system back they have to change enemy damage shields they have to change their idiotic solar damages solar etc system (which makes no sense at all btw) and finally they have to allow elemental weapons in the primary slot. This is far too much work for them to do so they did a half assed system of douchey guns for different douchey slots. Pretending they fixed it. Again this will not balance will not work and they told you so have fun buying or don't buy another one of the much better games starting in September.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it says all Year 2 weapons and armor. Forsaken is it's own thing, yeah, but it's also the start of Season 4 which brings new weapons, armor, etc. for everyone right? You could essentially grind out a better Better Devils, just with a hand cannon in the same archetype. There is new gear with every Season, right? I wouldn't know because I've bought every Expansion so far. - Instead of your gear being completely obsolete from the start, like Taken King, you will still have your viable weapons until you get a better roll of your preferred archetype. Plus whatever the new Mod and Masterwork system will be.

            • Faction rally, vendor gear, IB are not dlc, so those are year 2 weapons you can get without spending money.

i knew from the start that there is going to be something wrong with these randomrolls it just sounded too good to be true and here we have it. bungo once again -blam!-s things up. oh and btw their time of communication is not yet because there is plenty of time before forsaken releases.

So, basically, our 13th Better Devils will never matter. Because it's never going to have random rolls. He probably should have worded that answer a little differently. Our 13th, year 2 whatever will matter but nothing we have now.

                  • If they really want to remove the ambiguity they can, they can just put out a number or list saying for example "140 new weapons that are fully random and mod-able will be available to those who chose not to purchase the expansion. Yes, there's a new bow that will be available to core game players" Simple, short, not difficult to do. If they don't I'm assuming they're trying to hide the truth, that's just what I've come to expect from Bungie and they should really take that very harsh but genuine feedback. You either just don't communicate enough and we assume the worst, or you actually hide the truth when you can and we've caught on at this point. (oh crap, just realized I'm on the alt account I set up for making getting 3 anchors set up for EP easier. For those that want to look up my profile and try to discredit me)

                  • In order to play a game that somewhat resembles Destiny when it ended one year earlier (considering that Forsaken releases a year after the base game), you have to give Bungie $170. That is a scam.

                  • It's called marketing. you advertise something people want as a free update. but you make the items needed for it behind a DLC. it makes people want to play cause of the changes, but they have to buy the DLC to do so. it's pretty basic marketing 101 type stuff.

                      • Considering their DLC treatment in respect to the new weapons that they bring into the game, new content has to be purchased, new CHANGES come free. For context, content includes Crucible maps, Strikes, story missions, and gear (weapons, armor, cosmetics). So, based on Destiny's history, no, you will not be able to use the new weapons if you don't have the DLC. I remember back when The Dark Below dropped, I didn't get it right out the gate and I picked up some new guns, but I couldn't use them until I bought the DLC. They sat in my inventory and vault, unequippable.
