Serious Question About Re-Skins
A lot of people talk about the lack of new weapon/armor design and how Bungie are just giving us a bunch of re-skins. My question to Bungie is how? How can this be possible when there is literally a fan creation section FILLED with cool exotic ideas and other weapon ideas?
Feel like it would be a pretty cool idea to have Bungie select a legendary weapon/armor piece and an exotic weapon/armor piece every month to add to the game. New content that’s being basically given to them.

As someone who was a fan of Borderlands 2 and basically every weapon was a re-skin, I think that making the weapon fun and unique (Function wise) is way more important. With that said, having them look cool is a great bonus and there are a lot of cool ideas out there for them to use :3

The creative people out there do have great ideas and great pictures for concepts but bungie taking that concept creating it , sending it to their lab to brush it up , play test it , then scrap it bc although some creators take weeks to come up with great stuff , bungie rather use there ideas to recreate a weapon #reskin them with other perks

6 RepliesWhy?.... Here are my thoughts. They’ve adopted a big business model. Maximum profit for the least mount of time and effort required. You’ll notice that almost everything in the eververse is visually original/unique. The eververse is the only thing in the business model that makes a profit in between content releases (keep In mind that’s money in their pockets, not money to improve your experience). Therefore; they put a little more effort into it. Bungie has already developed every DLC, expansion and event you are going to see for the next couple of years (this includes the “new” masterworks equipment). The live team is here to pacify you enough to incentivize the purchase of everything to follow. They have a little wiggle room to tweak the game in order to accomplish this mission but not much. This is why their changes only seem like baby steps and not full blown changes to the core experience. Bottom line, 16 months of development with Luke Smith at the helm yielded a watered down re-skin of destiny 1. It’s re-skin’s within a re-skin.... RE-SKINCEPTION!

I like that idea. Re-skins can go to hell, I hate all of them... And the base armor isn’t even good looking to begin with. And then, trying to piece together a set collected from different sources, only to find out some one already did it, or some one is copying the same outfit as we speak.

Cool ideas still take time to model, texture, animate, make effects for, etc. Plus weapon design and balance. Plus potential IP issues. Making shit isn't easy.

I wouldnt mind the reskins if they would actually have random rolls making it unique in its own way but it is what it is.

1 ReplyHaven't used exotics for a long time, underpowered little impact or nigh on impossible to find enough heavy ammunition. Legendary weapons are actually more sought after than the choice from you're exotic pool. A huge change in damage output would be welcome but more importantly variation every damn one is the same. I would call them collectables .not functionality, is their a a need for exotics as we speak, no.easily outperformed by ordinary legendary and I really mean ordinary. Not sure where this game is heading, but it needs something that is going to grab you're attention, not just how you look,

I don't doubt there would be many people willing to give ideas for new gear, but bungie would have to start paying the people who come up with the ideas. Warframe does something similar. They go to the community and take a look at fan created skins and implement them into the game. Hell there a guy who's made a skin for about 12 of the frames now.

Because it doesn't fit with their vision. It's also hard to make content that will take more then a week to create and their afraid of copyrights on fan creations. They have a plan and our feedback is trash to them.

There was an article posted a couple days ago where someone quantified the amount of reskins. Half of the guns are reskins. Don't remember what it said about armor, but it's probably close to the same amount.
