Frankly, our present situation started when they began development of D2. There never should have been a Destiny "1" or a Destiny "2". And there shouldn't be a Destiny 3 either. They need to stick with one linear course of development until the franchise is put to rest. This does not mean the game should not be improved upon, or that we should get stuck with broken game mechanics. These things can be fixed, and old content can be phased out in a way that is consistent with the game's development and evolution over time. Even D2 could have followed a linear course if they had left us with all the old patrol zones, and found a way to make these (along with the old strikes and raids) meaningful in the new context. We should have been able to have new experiences on familiar ground. And for new players, it still could have felt like a "new" game. It just wouldn't have left everything it accomplished in D1 behind. Instead, we are left with a promising (albeit sickly) child that is awkwardly trying to fit into its father's clothes. When I started Destiny1 I expected a TV series, not a movie with stand alone sequels that each fundamentally altered the total experience from the ground up. I believed I would be invested in the game from beginning to end. But now, we know D2 is going to be just another title in a trilogy that seems to prop itself up on the shoulders of its predecessor, rather than standing tall and breaking ground in its own right. I really think Destiny should be a linear experiment in gaming, rather than a fragmented (and seemingly degrading) sequence of recycled content. But please understand, I think D2 is cool in a lot of ways. I am enjoying playing it for the first time (I havn't had a chance to play up until now because of school), and I think bungie is going to improve it and possibly leave us with a game at least as fun as D1 by the end of its life. But that is the fundamental problem: D2 has a life. It will die. It will not grow and mature into something better, it will simply die and D3 will replace it, shedding all the progress and innovations that D2 will make. That's the problem. In terms of time investment and the scope of rewards earned, Destiny should not be a standalone title like halo that you can just play, shelve, and move on. Our investment should mean something, it should have a future. It should carry on into the future. But in 2020 or whenever D3 gets released, that investment will be dead. If you agree with me, if you think Destiny should be something that changes and grows, rather than something that dies and gets replaced by an inferior child, leave a comment and a like. Rather than eververse, rolls, or any other short term problem, this is the real problem. Its the problem that got us into the problems we have now. Destiny should continue to grow, not die. Like if you dont want Destiny 2 or Destiny 3: like if you just want "Destiny"...
Won't by D3
