Like If You Don't Want D3. Like If You Simply Want "Destiny" To Be A Game That Evolves And Improves And Doesn't Die

Frankly, our present situation started when they began development of D2. There never should have been a Destiny "1" or a Destiny "2". And there shouldn't be a Destiny 3 either. They need to stick with one linear course of development until the franchise is put to rest. This does not mean the game should not be improved upon, or that we should get stuck with broken game mechanics. These things can be fixed, and old content can be phased out in a way that is consistent with the game's development and evolution over time. Even D2 could have followed a linear course if they had left us with all the old patrol zones, and found a way to make these (along with the old strikes and raids) meaningful in the new context. We should have been able to have new experiences on familiar ground. And for new players, it still could have felt like a "new" game. It just wouldn't have left everything it accomplished in D1 behind. Instead, we are left with a promising (albeit sickly) child that is awkwardly trying to fit into its father's clothes. When I started Destiny1 I expected a TV series, not a movie with stand alone sequels that each fundamentally altered the total experience from the ground up. I believed I would be invested in the game from beginning to end. But now, we know D2 is going to be just another title in a trilogy that seems to prop itself up on the shoulders of its predecessor, rather than standing tall and breaking ground in its own right. I really think Destiny should be a linear experiment in gaming, rather than a fragmented (and seemingly degrading) sequence of recycled content. But please understand, I think D2 is cool in a lot of ways. I am enjoying playing it for the first time (I havn't had a chance to play up until now because of school), and I think bungie is going to improve it and possibly leave us with a game at least as fun as D1 by the end of its life. But that is the fundamental problem: D2 has a life. It will die. It will not grow and mature into something better, it will simply die and D3 will replace it, shedding all the progress and innovations that D2 will make. That's the problem. In terms of time investment and the scope of rewards earned, Destiny should not be a standalone title like halo that you can just play, shelve, and move on. Our investment should mean something, it should have a future. It should carry on into the future. But in 2020 or whenever D3 gets released, that investment will be dead. If you agree with me, if you think Destiny should be something that changes and grows, rather than something that dies and gets replaced by an inferior child, leave a comment and a like. Rather than eververse, rolls, or any other short term problem, this is the real problem. Its the problem that got us into the problems we have now. Destiny should continue to grow, not die. Like if you dont want Destiny 2 or Destiny 3: like if you just want "Destiny"... ***Trending Edit*** Seeing this kind of support is encouraging. We all know the game has problems, but we argue because we care. We know what it could be and what it is not. Bungie will probably never implement a shift in development as big as making destiny enfold like a tv series, but we can hope. Perhaps the next tag rebellion needs to be: #nodestiny3 or #2before3. Post your witty ideas below...
Moderator edit: This thread has been moved to #Feedback forum so that other Destiny players can weigh in. Deej made the comment back in d1 that our time and stuff matters and they won’t take it away, lmaooooooo. When destiny was first advertised they talked about an epic 10 year space battle fps pve focused mmo rpg, what it is now is just a joke compared to the original idea. Too much focus on pvp has ruined destiny imo.

    • I love the idea, and think this is the way Destiny should be. But that doesn't conform to Bungie logic. How else are Bungie supposed to charge $60 then dripfeed pre-existing features back to you? Bungie also uses the Destiny "X" modifier to change whatever they want, and excuse themselves by calling it a new game.

    • I work in engineering and manufacturing and when we are working on new product development we always start with "what does the customer want?" Bungie is like "what do we(bungie) want?"

      • The only thing they got right was the PC version. After playing that it makes the console version look and feel like crap. That is why I like Destiny 2 without it we would still be tied to last gen consoles no thanks. I do agree with what you are saying though... this game doesn't need to be broken down into "re-released" sequels... it should be something along the lines of major DLC and content packs that would be equalivant to new "sequels" that expand on the current universe.

      • Just play Warframe. It does everything right that Destiny 2 does wrong, it’s better and it’s also free.

        • The potential problem I can see with this is twofold. Number 1. The reasoning behind doing a full sequel instead of just an expansion is sound. Like most games, Destiny 1 was bleeding players. A full reset was a way to create new interest in the game from players that had left and potential players that had never tried it before. In that sense Destiny 2 worked. The long term consequences of mistakes made during the design process is a seperate issue, which brings us to number 2. If Destiny 2 is such a failure, would not another full sequel with a reset have a higher potential to become a better game? I agree that part of the issue with Destiny 2 is that from our perspective it did not offer anything new or rather better than the experience that already existed. If anything one could easily argue that what Destiny 2 offers is less. That does also limit Destiny 2's potential though. The hope would potentially be that Destiny 3 could offer a step towards a newer, better experience. Because Destiny 2 seems unable to do so. Now is that a good bet to make? Probably not. However is it not always better to strive for progress than to be stuck in a rut?

        • There are so many games coming out this year which will drive Destiny into complete irrelevance. Monster Hunter, Kingdom Come, Red Dead 2, Crackdown 3, and WoW’s new expansion are all going to give me absolutely no reason to ever think about Destiny again. They did it to themselves. I’ve never seen a game that was so bad in terms of the game itself and the developers’ response to the community.

        • I refuse to preorder D3 outright and wont even buy it unless its on par with D1 (in its final state) and even if it does proove to be worth buying I will wait for a preowned hard copy and definately wont be buying dlc until it comes in a much lower priced bundle a year or so on but TBH I've had enough of bungie's blatant FACK the players attitude. I came back to D2 after weeks away for the new monarchy ornaments which I now have so wont be playing at all until next season.

        • D2 is basically dead compared to where D1 was. If they’re going to build off a platform ala WoW it should be the next installment, assuming they they actually deliver on the potential next time. They’ve done enough damage to the Bungie brand and Destiny brand that D3 might be passed over even if the game is excellent (titanfall 2). Interesting times ahead.

          • I’m not reading all that, cuz I don’t really give too shots, but going off your title, yeah. I absolutely thought D2 was going to be an evolution of the base game, not a totally different product with every design decision being a change for the worse. I’m done with Bungie and their Destiny legend of garbage. I just come on here to tell them how badly they screwed up and hope that maybe someday someone at the company will get it. This game really could have been legendary. Instead, it’ll go down as a great example in video game history as what not to do.

            • Bungie and Activision may as well turn off the life support for this dieing franchise, they've killed it. Well done bungie but don't worry players because CD PROJECT a company that nows how to treat its player base have just confirmed that cyberpunk 2077 is alive. BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP.

            • There is plenty reasons why a d3 is a bad idea, especially so soon after d2, it's only ever going to take from the content of d2, someone can try to spin "WELL you don't know dev teams you don't understand, when the programmers are working the writter have nothing to do" and I don't think this is true, outside of the next dlc there is always other lore based stuff to work on or more in the middle content that could be added. Also it means any good ideas have to be suppressed because they don't want to have to out do to much with d3
