When/Why would you use Pulse Rifles?
I'm not knocking them, I just can't understand it myself. Are Pulse Rifles supposed to be an alternate option compared to auto rifles? Or are they supposed to do something no other weapon can do? I find it hard to chose a Pulse Rifle over an Auto Rifle or Scout Rifle. Please enlighten me.

Depends what pulse rifle archetype you are referring to, because there are only a few pulse rifles in the game that are actually good and have low TTKs.

Well the timeworn spire is a superb Pulse, good range and very fast fire rate. Almost like a ranged auto sort of. The nightshade is great in PvE imo. I wouldn’t say the pulse is the best overall weapon type but I would say it’s a good one you can rely on. Except low fire rate pulses, I don’t find them to be good -
I wouldnt.

I will occasionally use one in PvE just for fun and to use something different. They fall between scouts and autos, but the overlap makes them redundant.

I think they're supposed to fill a role somewhere between auto rifles and scout rifles, but autos and scouts both overlap into the pulse role so they're not very valuable.

yep, autos out range and out damage pulses, which have the same damage as scouts, yet arent as consistent as scouts so where is the place for pulse rifles? it doesnt exist pulse rifles need a buff to range and consistency or a buff to damage

Some of it comes down to feel, there are a lot of people who do very well with pulse. Try running Vigilance Wing and Last Hope. Some people swear by it. I've had some fair luck with the combo, but I still fall back to Scout, Auto combos.

1 ReplyI find pulse rifles to have a very, very specific range at which they dominate fairly well. It's such a specific range though that it's almost non existent in typical play. That isn't to say that pulses aren't good, it's just their premier range isn't found very often in the realm of reality. Once outside that range, they're being dominated by MIDA/Nameless Midnight. Inside the range, dominated by a few auto rifles. I like Lincoln Green more than The Time-Worn Spire/Nightshade because i find it to have the most obvious range that feels good and dominates often enough at that range. My personal preference.

Nightshade and the IB one are very good in crucible, otherwise I use some energy pulses in pve for fun.

I got completely destroyed by a guy using a Pulse Rifle. My guess is there is a "sweet spot" to learn.

They're halfway between scouts and autos. If you want a gun for medium or long range, to go with an SMG or sidearm, a pulse will work well. I got my only 30-kill games in D1 with a PDX-45 pulse.

1 ReplyAgenda 5 and nergal pr4 are both awesome in pvp. Nergal is full auto. Got a 3 kill with 1 clip.

When I have one with a high power level I equip it when I am trying to raise my character's power level to get more powerful gear to drop. Other than that, I haven't found a situation where they are the best option.

Its suppose to be a balance between autos and scouts good dps and critical, but doesn't out preform the other two in their strengths like a jack of all trades at least that was the idea don't know if it is still like that.

When I would use one: When they get buffed Why would I use one: I really like the burst fire over a full auto or a semi auto.

3 RepliesYou are correct it has been over three years and they still can't balance weapons. I guess they found pulse rifles to be too "good" in the beta and killed those damn things. Lets be straight up honest also why would you use a hand cannon in the game currently?
