Why am I being forced to play Superman 64 in the nightfall?

Like legit this isn't a nightfall, it's speedrun the video game. These nightfalls are getting stupider and stupider say what you want but it's hard to have fun with this garbage. Edit # 1 So I see I have some people who agree with me and I have some people who don't understand my viewpoint. 1. I never said I couldn't do the nightfall, I never said it was hard. I already did the nightfall so I have right to give my critique of it. 2. I said the nightfalls are getting stupid as they are straying away from they should be. A challenge that should be on the players skill, not based off of who can run past all the enemies. 3. The timer is stupid (my opinion) I'll respect anyone else's. I should be allowed to take my time and plan out my moves during the strike instead of having to restart half way through because a little too much time may have been wasted. Again I've done the nightfall it wasn't hard so difficulty is clearly not my problem my problem is that they are tossing in mechanics that don't belong in a nightfall. Why am I jumping through rings? Let me play my strike the way I want to. I want to shoot stuff not jump through rings to get more time in the strike.

  • I think it was a nice change of pace. Instead of playing super passive and carefully picking off the enemies it forced you to get a move on. I don't mind it at all

  • I miss the OG nightfall! I used to solo them... take awhile but could do it. Timer is not enjoyable due to bring in a hurry and the damn clock don't stop when you have to hack something with your ghost... the return you orbit is the way to go... presented a much better challenge. I took a break off D1 and returned to.... you start at your checkpoint?!?!?!?! I was like WTF? overall just bring back the OG NIGHTFALL!

  • I think the NF needs some fine tuning. Another thing I would really appreciate if there is a constant indicator on screen somewhere that shows the current burn (if it is there somewhere can someone point it out please). I can't keep an eye on the left for notifications in the heat of battle (especially the level 300 nf), and miss the pops announcing the change of burn. The announcement disappear far too quickly, I miss more than half of them.

  • Havent done the nightfall this week, so no comment on whether it's easy, hard, stupid, etc. But your edit does bring up other thoughts: 1. A timer in the nightfall isnt new. Bungie added 1 in d1. Most are ignoring that cause that timer was 30 mins to get the better gear, and most finished in 10-15 mins, so it wasnt a factor. 2. To go off the last point: people usually finished that fast cause most would speedrun through the nightfalls in d1. So, while I get people dont like the setup, i really think the only ones that can be blamed are us, the gamers. We are the ones that complained about going to orbit if the team wiped, bungie changed it so we didnt; we complained they took too long & the rewards werent good enough, so bungie changed it by adding a timer and an incentive to beat it in said time; and we are the ones that would speedrun through nightfalls, strikes, raids, etc. to get the loot. I think bungie took all the comments, suggestions, data, etc., and made that the challenge in d2. Prove how good you are at what you normally do anyway.

      To be honest, I can understand why people are frustrated. But... Keep in mind that if you do it the right way, you actually clear most of the Adds because it's easier to get all the timegates. Sure, you run past a few enemies in areas not worth engaging them in, but to be successful you really need a few things: 1) Communication. This is key. Higher light levels help too... Obviously. 2) Use the modifiers to your advantage in conjunction with that communication. Have everyone use slightly different elemental weapons so all types are covered. 3) Clear out snipers where the timegates are (and in general before any other Adds) in the first real battleground area (Cabal), take out the big guy in the middle, then start on the gates. 4) Ideally run 2 of the same class (we had 2 striker Titan's and a Hammer bro) 5) Have one person go ahead at the drill section while the other two try to get as many timegates as possible. When you've gotten them all, or they've disappeared, the guy who went ahead can trigger the "Joining allies" checkpoint... This saves a reasonable amount of time. 6) The two people with the same elemental subclass need to save their supers for the final fight to use together. 7) Gates are separated into "groups". Determine who's going for which gates and stick to it, splitting up means you get more time. We did it with 6:01 left on the clock, and it was on our 2nd attempt. While I'm not suggesting this makes it all better, it certainly makes it feel more like what you would expect a Nightfall to play like. Good luck guardians.

    • I don't think the issue with this is the Nightfall mechanics. The timer can add a huge sense of urgency and I quite like it. The issue is the strikes itself. The problems that a lot of people are having with the nightfall is running through without killing everything. That is not a Nightfall specific thing. It's a Strike specific thing. In strikes like the pyramidion and the others you don't have that issue of being able to run through most of it. The strike needs to be fixed not the nightfall. Although I thought the superman 64 comment was absolutely hilarious

      • I agree and disagree with this. I think the timer can add difficulty but they allowed you to rush past majority of the fight. So I like the idea but its lacking execution. One other think im not a fan of it is pretty much eliminates doing the nightfall solo, not saying its impossible but with 1 person its very very difficult due to the timer

                • been saying this since they revealed this news: The nightfall was always more fun in Y1 back when the enemies could kill you just by looking at you and if your entire team wiped, you would all get kicked back to orbit. Did this lead to some absurd strategies like someone staying back to be the "anchor" player? Sure. Did it lead to careful/cautious play? Sure. Nothing wrong with that to overcome a challenge. For those who would point out the fact that players used cheese spots, etc., I'd say this: 1) Not EVERY player used cheese spots but 2) even if they did, I don't necessarily consider picking a strategic spot for the engagement a cheese. I consider a cheese the exploitation of a glitch or something that was not intended (like using the sword to fly over a bridge), not hiding in a spot that seems tailor made for hiding in. Sorry, but when fighting a boss who can OHK us at will and who will instantly send my team to orbit if we screw up, the smart thing to do is to simply pick the most strategic place to fight from - somewhere we can shoot the boss from relative safety and where he would have a hard time returning fire. I'm not going to charge a strike boss who is surrounded by dozens of minions, including yellow bar majors, with a shotgun, IN THE NIGHTFALL when leaving cover means almost certain death and likely a trip back to orbit.

                  • I agree. I dislike the whole timed mechanic. I much prefer the good old destiny days, where one team wipe would send you to orbit It added real stakes into the conflict, and wasn't just a "oh we died? Now wait 30 seconds off the time."
