Why am I being forced to play Superman 64 in the nightfall?

Like legit this isn't a nightfall, it's speedrun the video game. These nightfalls are getting stupider and stupider say what you want but it's hard to have fun with this garbage. Edit # 1 So I see I have some people who agree with me and I have some people who don't understand my viewpoint. 1. I never said I couldn't do the nightfall, I never said it was hard. I already did the nightfall so I have right to give my critique of it. 2. I said the nightfalls are getting stupid as they are straying away from they should be. A challenge that should be on the players skill, not based off of who can run past all the enemies. 3. The timer is stupid (my opinion) I'll respect anyone else's. I should be allowed to take my time and plan out my moves during the strike instead of having to restart half way through because a little too much time may have been wasted. Again I've done the nightfall it wasn't hard so difficulty is clearly not my problem my problem is that they are tossing in mechanics that don't belong in a nightfall. Why am I jumping through rings? Let me play my strike the way I want to. I want to shoot stuff not jump through rings to get more time in the strike.

  • Other than the timer the nightfall feels more like it's just the old Weekly strike. There's no modifiers except a way to increase time and rotating burns. not like D1 that had like 5 different mods and you wiped to orbit. i did my first nightfall today(only got to like 230 light before reset but had to go to work so didn't get to try nightfall) and we beat it our first try. then 3rd try we got the rat king quest done and had like 6 minutes to go. part of me is glad they're a lot easier since they were so unforgiving before. but honestly they feel too easy now.

    I can see your point, and I respect it. My personal opinion is that the timer makes the nightfall more intense, fervent, helps avoid cheesing, and helps promote more aggressive play. But you are right when you say that it also makes it a race to rush past enemies, I've seen that happen. I think it would be cool to have a timed mode, and a non-timed mode. The non-timed mode could have a much higher difficulty with a wipe sending the team back to orbit. Mainly because I would like a nightfall experience that is much more challenging. My friend and I got lucky enough to participate on the guided game beta, we took someone through nightfall (I dont mean "took" to imply that we carried, he totally held his own and did really well as part of the team). When we got to the boss, I thought there was no way we would beat it with the time we had left, but we paid attention to the rotating burns, leveraged the extra damage by rotating weapons and supers, and beat it. It was pretty intense and really fun. Having a third person that we didn't know felt like a risk at first, but after he helped DPS and revived, and was a major factor in winning, it was more like "hell yeah, I'm glad we got this guy with us!" I know that might sound cheesy, but it was a really cool experience overall.

      • It appears frustrating at first but that's why you communicate with your squad. It was still rough but my clanmates and I did it in two runs yesterday morning. Communicating on the elemental burn changes is also important, as is coordinating supers.

          how is the timer a problem for anyone, at most it should be three 3 tries to get it down and know what to do, any averagely capable person that has played a shooter should be able to clear this, It took my friend and a random 2 tries to do the rat king timer last week without communication

          • Everyone seems to forget that literally every single raid has at least one encounter where you are being timed, what is so different about a nightfall timer that makes it so horrible when the raids, the pinnacle of destiny end game content is full of timed events

              • Why do people talk as if soloing a nightfall in D1 was easy? It was hard enough with the whole team dying went to orbit, doing it solo meant if you died at all it was orbit. And having two other people to help makes it a lot easier unless they add more enemies or more damage output from enemies. 4 people going from pvp to a nightfall should easily be able to soeedrun it

I don't know who created y1 events but they need to be put back on the job... If this is how all the nightfall's are going to be, meaning speed runs... What's the point? It's bad enough this game is lacking as it is.

                  • The timed concept of the nightfalls reminds me of the two types of tests: power tests and speed tests. Bear with me, I'm doing this off the top of my head and it's been awhile. Power tests are untimed, and are basically meant to measure "true skill" for lack of a better term. If given unlimited time, how good can you be? This reminds me raids, which take a long time to figure out and master. Nightfalls have become a speed test: you only have so much time to complete the task, so now it's not just about how good you can be, but how efficient you are. The mechanics built in allow you to earn more time if you need it. I like the idea of having both types of challenges in the game. If t is a different measure of our ability and challenges us in a different way.

                  • First time I did the nightfall was yesterday with a bunch of randoms. After on the second try we just sparrowed our way through most of the end straight to the boss, avoiding every fight we could and just grabbing the time boosts. Boss gets dropped within about a minute total fight time due to the Prism bonus. Was significantly faster than doing the normal strike, honestly don't see why we can't just matchmake for nightfalls, it's not like they require a raid level coordinated team. Not super impressed, but hey, easy way for purple powerful gear I guess but I want an actual combat challenge that's worth getting a premade for.

                      I love the new nightfall, it rewards on your feet thinking, team coordination and in some cases improvising. No longer can you sit back, relaxed and take 1+ hrs to crawl through the nightfall with an icebreaker. It's much more high energy and chaotic/stressful now. Love it. So far I've had more fun getting rat king last week with 5:09 on the clock and finishing up prestige mode this week with our fire team under light and around 30 seconds left. Both were edge of our seat runs with lots of laughs, last minute fallouts and strat changes, etc. Haven't had this much fun on strikes ever before.

                        • The best solution in this case would be to offer different ways to finish the nightfall and offer rewards based off of the way it was completed: 1. Speedrun: Finish the nightfall as fast as you can in the time limit 2. Mass Destruction: Kill every enemy that spawns (may have to limit to darkness zones). 3. Anti-Death: Finish the nightfall without your fireteam dying And then if all 3 are done in the same run, you can get a guaranteed exotic.

READY, GO, GO, GO, GO, SKIP, SKIP, SKIP, Kill cause in way, SKIP, SKIP, SKIP, kill cause needed (power weapon spam), SKIP, SKIP- ok, boss- pop everything fast, fast, fast, Merciless spam- Uffffff, me made before timer run out. Seriously- I have no idea even how this NF looks like, I don't have time to see the map, to check areas, to explore around etc. This is one big speedrun and its not cool, this is not fun at all.

                            • I think it was a nice change of pace. Instead of playing super passive and carefully picking off the enemies it forced you to get a move on. I don't mind it at all
