Do you think Luke Smith read the grimoires?

I'm on holiday so can't play and have been occupying my time lounging in the sun reading the grimoires for the first time (side note: it really is a shame these are getting ditched. Not all of these stories could be told in the game). It has brought to mind the comments Luke has made regarding the Darkness and the Stranger. He admitted that they have no idea what they are and it is to be shelved until they do. These comments are problematic as it gives ammunition to those who want to claim Bungie have no clue what they are doing. The truth is he never had to say that because the back story of the Stranger is pretty well fleshed out in the few grimoire concerning her and the darkness always seemed like it should be mysterious entity to be explored further down the line. I always struggled with the whole 'minions of darkness' thing so saying that they would ditch that aspect makes sense but really all that needed to be said was that the Stranger and the Darkness are really story endgame to be explored down the line. I love the concept of exploring the Light next and what makes guardians who they are. It seem like natural progression. Surely understanding this is crucial to understanding their importance in the battle against the Darkness. But I do wonder to what extent the game designers are looking at what has already been written already and using this as a starting point. If they have then they would know that the Stranger is a ghostless warrior traveling through space and time fighting a battle against an unknown foe (the Darkness). 3 years into a story do you really need to know more than that?
