There you have it folks, PvP and PvE will not be tuned separately.
Edit* The more I see and hear about this game, the more I see that they didn't listen to the players at all. This decision, coupled with many others, speaks volumes to Bungie's view of their players. The feedback they keep saying they want goes nowhere, so why bother giving it? Our feedback means nothing unless its a direction they wanted to go anyway. As someone who was hoping this wouldn't be the case, I'm very disappointed.
Edit* It really seems to me that Bungie would rather fail miserably while holding to their "vision" then be even more successful by listening to us. I really wish Bungie would answer us here.

This post is a long read, but the focus is overwhelmingly on the side of separation. Even some PvP players think so. I'm of the opinion that Bungie's goal is totally unobtainable. There is just no way at all that both PvE and PvP players can be compatible and happy. Bungie knows this also, but still chooses to pursue an idea that just cannot work! Then chooses towards PvP. I think the bottom line is that, despite what I saw as a substantial objection to the integration of PvP and PvE in Destiny, in these Forums, Bungie seems to have dismissed the idea out of hand, with no attempt to change it even slightly, and no acknowledgment of the objections. One post on the subject a month or so ago, attracted 900 odd comments, the vast majority objecting to the integration. Individual weapon adjustment is bullshit, because the adjustment still carries across from one to the other. So, despite arriving flak, I'm suggesting that I would happily pay the same amount of cash for a PvE Destiny, that was unencumbered by some damn fool idea that PvP would be good for me. Destiny is a game that lasts for months! The full price is really worth it for a PvE game only. Yes, those that play both will disagree, and I accept that. However, how many PvP players would also do as I would, for the same reason? I.E. no interference in their game by pesky PvE requirements. A better solution would, of course, be half price for each. Buried here of course, is my ignorance of the server requirements, and the software writing problems. The former I could foresee, the latter - not so much. P.S. Is "The Division" worth playing PvE only?

3 RepliesThis is far from worst fears. It's minor annoyance at best. Worst fears would be that ever exotic will only be available through quests that are purely pvp based.

5 RepliesThe reluctance & I daresay outright refusal to seperate the 2 modes is honestly ludicris & it shows the disconnect between Bungie, the playerbase, & Bungie's overall knowledge of RPGs. To be fair to Bungie. They are NOT an RPG studio. They have never made a good RPG across the studio's lifespan. That is fine. Every development studio has their strengths. Bungie has finally ADMITTED that they have no idea how to make an RPG, & are incapable of delivering a solid RPG. They lack the team, in house/internal development power, & RPG know how. Fans of World of Warcraft or not. As we all know...it is one thing to be a FAN of something, another to do it yourself. However, Bungie is acting on the fact that it canmpt deliever an RPG. Thus Destiny 2's RPG elements have been severely gutted & toned down. Watching & listening to Destiny Truthcast, BYF, Myelin, & even the likes of Moreconsole have shined an unignorable spotlight on this. The bottomline is as NXR Lonestar said:
Bungie can only do two of three things.
Bungie however is stubbornly choosing to go for a consistent experience across PVE & PVP. Which is not possible in an RPG & in RNG perk based games especially. Thr RNG aspect & effect of Perks randomizes too many aspects of gameplay. Just think about that: They want to have balance, equality, fluidity, & consistence across Randomly generated fields/aspects/sources. How do you make Random Consistent? You can't they are POLAR OPPOSITES. PVE & PVP mirror this: PVE is about power, tactics, utility, & often requires loadouts that empower these traits. PVP is about skill, equality/fairplay, reflexes, & strategy. Bungie's idea to have guns be consistent across modes is already dead on arrival, no it failed during conception. This due to one aspect of the game: Perks Perks are Randomly assigned. Perks change gameplay. Perks are the source of imbalance. The perks used on Armor & Weapons for PVE are not the perks used for PVP. This is literally a FACT. The perks PVE asks for are NIGHT & DAY difference from PVP. As many of you know. Haunter & I teamed up months ago so we could deliver a solid Armsday post every week that does justice to both PVE & PVP players. When I took over for Dannycteris I made PVE recommendations exclusively. Many PVP players often asked if the rolls I chose could transition to PVP. The answer was a DEFINITIVE & absolute, NO. Then Haunter requested if he could do PVP recommendations in my stead. As we both knew...many perks only shine, no. I daresay: Only Work in 1 mode. For example... Firefly is useless in PVP. The explosion damage will only kill other players when all the planets align. Army of One is AMAZING in PVE, in PVP it is lackluster, a waste of a perk slot. Even the base stats matter. Rifled Barrel is beloved by PVP players because it doesn't hurt stability. For PVE Rifled Barrel can be a death sentence because of the longer reload it causes. You can miss a damage phase, a crucial shot, or get rushed by an Elite. So Reinforced shines more. In PVP Reinforced Barrel is a curse. Luck in the Chamber is godly in PVP, sucks in PVE. Lets say we had all Uffern HC4s with these perks. The Uffern with Sureshot, Luck in the Chamber, Rifled Barrel will feel night & day different in PVP than it does in PVE period. As the Lucky shot will OHK or nearly OHK a player, but in PVE it will just make 1 shot do the damage of 3(ish). An Uffern with Sureshot, Army of One, & Reinforced Barrel will feel smooth & powerful in PVE, as every kill buffs the player, but feel like trash in PVP as every kill doesn't grant a buff due to the perk requiring no one else do damage to your target. Armor traits like Void Burn Defense is lackluster in PVP. Does it help? Yes. A gamechanger? Hardly. My point... Unless Bungie removes weapon & Armor perks all together or disables them in PVP (which still would make the guardian/guns feel slightly different.). They will never be able to make gameplay consistent across both modes. Period. Blizzard & other Activision subsidiaries could (& probably have) told or tried to explain this to Bungie. At this point...there is no turning back however. Destiny 2 is complete. Bungie doesn't need us to point out that it's foolish (I'm going to be blunt about it.) Quest to have consistency in a world dictated by RNG has caused them to make many changes/removals that do more harm than good. Secondaries are now Power (Heavy) weapons. How could they remain? They NEED to be a few steps up from Primaries. Being a few steps up however made them rampant in PVP. 2 primary weapons... Typical FPS loadout. The RPG aspect demanded Primaries, Secondaries, & Heavies. Sub-Class Trees are very limited & basically a "this way or that way." decision. Once again... The RPG aspect is being phased out. Only a uniform system can last in a FPS. Yes. It is sad. But honestly. Was Halo an RPG? Was Oni an RPG? Bungie is basically going back to what it does best. FPS I expect D3 to have even less RPG elements to be truthful. Atleast Bungie is being transparent & acknowledging it.

2 RepliesI don't mean to go against your opinion, but the non separation between pve and pvp has not affected me in completing content or has it made it so hard either.

4 RepliesI had hoped that the policy of the game would change, but it looks like it hasn't. Reading here, most argument is about the "balance" of weapons in PvP and PvE. I understand the gripes, but what I don't like is the insistence by Bungie that PvE players MUST play PvP, to earn some particular item. This is an item that is unavailable elsewhere, and which adds a great deal of enjoyment and satisfaction to PvE players. Unfortunately, "enjoyment " doesn't seem to be Bungie's policy for the game. Sure, I can choose not to play PvP. No problem. But when my choice interferes with my choice to play PvE only, well, that's irritating. As someone said, an exotic (or anything) that can only be obtained by a PvP quest, is just a pain in the ass to those who detest PvP. I played all the Halo's and never, ever played the PvP part of the game. It did not affect the PvE part at all. I played Titanfall, and never, ever played the PvP part of the game. It did not affect the PvE part at all. I played one of the CODs, and never, ever played the PvP part of the game. It did not affect the PvE part at all. I play Destiny, and straight away, I am pestered to play PvP. Bungie can separate too, but they choose not to, because of some ideology. Sure, I can choose not to play Destiny at all, and that seems to be the answer for lots of people. Funny too, that no serious player survey was ever taken on the subject, even though a casual glance at player numbers, revels the popularity of PvE against PvP. I guess no one likes to be proven wrong. As far as profit goes. Sure, Company Profit is important. Hell, I'd almost say the most important. So, how stupid is it to curb profit, by sticking with a plan that could be made more profitable with change? My enthusiasm for D2 has taken a real hit!

5 RepliesI mean, at least they can tune 1 weapon specifically, instead of say, change the entirety of one weapon archetype.

*Bender voice* We're boned

10 RepliesAfter reading the whole interview, I think Luke Smith and Bungie have a point in not balancing PVP and PVE separately. As Luke said, they can balance individual weapons this time around, instead of making sweeping changes to entire archetypes in D1. There's no way of telling if this will be an appropriate fix until a few months after launch, but on paper it sounds like it could work. And if I were in Bungie's shoes, I'd hold to my "vision" because the vision of the community contradicts itself at every corner. Some want more customization options, some want less. Some want new content, some want old stuff to return. That said, the community sometimes has good ideas, but there's too many people suffocating those ideas with troll posts, salt, and general refuse. Hopefully Bungie can incorporate more of those good ideas (exotics, game health, etc) in the future.
-
7 RepliesI don't have a problem with them being tuned together, I have a problem with Bungies handling of weapon balance. I think they go about it the wrong way.
-
2 RepliesEdited by Vampire Nox: 6/16/2017 6:13:03 PMAnd that now makes much more sense when looking at the screen shots of the character customization screens. When comparing those screens to D1, D2 will have LESS customization for character skills/abilities than D1. This will make it easier for them to balance the game around PvP and PvP alone. Sadly, this also means less depth and far fewer options on the PvE side than was there in D1, which means that the level of customization will go from "Low" to "Pathetic". This also means; everyone will start off very strong in D2 (like we did in Y1 D1), with really great weapons/armor, but then we'll get nerfed down to firing unicorn kisses by the time D2 Y3 hits. Then they'll come up with yet another cheap, hastily forced lie as to why they;re removing all your gear for D3, and the cycle will go for yet another cheaply made Destiny installment. By the time D3 drops (assuming there is a D3, Bungie must realize that they're staring down the very probable reality of far less sales than D1 had when they were riding on the coattails of Halo), this game will be a PvP-only game. Hell, Bungie; why not just go ahead and make the Destiny franchise a MOBA and quit all the pretense? It's pretty damn obvious that PvP is the sole mode that you're concerned about. Why even bother with the pretense (read: lie) that PvE is just as important? Just make the franchise a MOBA, since that's where your collective "heart's desire" is at anyway.

12 RepliesWelp, that's it then. No D2 for me. I hope Luke Smith's next shit is a cactus.

1 Reply___DELETED___ I had a long winded rant about all this BS . . . But I'm done . . The Exo Strangers name . . . . is Destiny ! She's gone, so is all hope for the "Real" game we wanted & waited for. . .

1 ReplyI wish we could as a community vote with our wallets. I like the idea of destiny but I haven't played it since oct 2015. They could be doing so much better, but every move bungie makes turns me off a whole lot.
-
1 ReplyWow. Grave mistake.

2 RepliesAnother article points towards bungie never listening to their customers. I would like to see bungie actually respond to this post.
-
2 RepliesWell, besides all the stuff that is being removed from Destiny that made Destiny what it actually was in y1. Any news on the slot machine that has worse odds then Vegas? We all know Tess is getting a major improvement Lmao.

20 RepliesThis is why nobody trusts Bungie. At the reveal, RWG and Sols were apparently told that there would be no separation of PVE from PVP until the patches roll out. And the presumption was that those statements indicated that the sandbox would be unified at first, and then as they tuned things in each mode separately, they would deviate. Then we get Luke Smith saying PVP and PVE will not be separated. Those are two inconsistent statements from two people who presumptively have decision-making authority at Bungie. If I had to determine who was telling the truth in this one, oddly enough, I'd have to say Luke Smith. I'm sure the topic was discussed internally and while they may have intended to separate them at the reveal, that may no longer be the case. Furthermore, Luke Smith outlined that the reason they won't be separated is that they want to preserve consistency across both modes. This is something they have been stubborn about since D1 launched. Keeping PVE and PVP sandboxes unified is entirely consistent with that approach. So, as I have been preaching since the reveal: Bungie can only pick TWO out of three of these things: 1) Power progression in PVE; 2) Balance in PVP; and 3) Consistency between the two. This is completely logical because guns that are fun, powerful, and exciting and provide a sense of power progression are also going to be unbalanced in PVP. And weapons tuned for PVP will cease to inspire or excite in PVE. They could cater to BOTH PVP and PVE crowd needs, but they would have to do so at the cost of consistency. To me, it appears that ALL of the changes to D2 were about bending backwards to try to avoid doing what they needed to do from the beginning: separate PVP from PVE. Since they pretty much sided with the PVP crowd for D2, and they are insisting on consistency between the two modes, it is only logical that PVE will continue to suffer for the sake of PVP. Even worse, because D2 places more emphasis on primary weapons, you can bet that the effects of each and every nerf for the sake of PVP will be felt much more in PVE.

13 RepliesWe're also losing the Taken King and second subclasses from launch...
Arcstrider, Sentinal, and Dawnblade aren't the same as Bladedancer, Defender, and Sunsinger, don't even try to play that card.
3 RepliesMy distrust of Bungie/Activision is why I haven't preordered D2. Every time they make an announcement, it just solidifies that I'm making the right decision to not play this game. My opinion is it looks like we're about to be given another full priced beta
-
16 RepliesThat wasnt the only thing, he totaly dissmissed the hole storyline ,if any , from D1 to. He basicly said D1 was a beta, an experiment. Just forget about it , thats the feeling i got from that interview. What the hell is going on here, i did hope that ther would be some explanation around certain caracters. But nope , they got shelved, end of story , in the true sence of the word. An ever evolving world with an interresting storyline , yeah really. Sorry guys but this is pissing me off big time. Cheers
-
2 RepliesMany are extremely skeptical with regards to D2 at this point. Bungie is headed for an epic fail but are so clueless they have no idea.
-
3 RepliesI loved Destiny day one. It was some of the best game play I've experienced and I've been playing since the late 80's. The story sucked but the gun mechanics, mobility and abilities came together to make an experience that was Legendary. But over the last two and a half years Bungie's obsession with Guardians "playing the game the correct way" has led to oppressive nerfs and forced meta changes. Almost every change since HoW has made the game less to me not more. And from the info Bungie is putting out it seems like they nerfed D1 to make D2. Most likely Bungie will spend the next three years nerfing D2.

3 RepliesTo everyone responding on this thread: This is the way discussions should be. Comments are very well thought out and there are no attacks on individuals for their opinions.
Standing ovation to all, now I'll sit down
1 ReplyWell, they took away elemental primaries, just to give them back again as legendaries we have to work again just to get what we already worked for, really? Can we say recycled content? From what I saw , yeah areas might be bigger, but jumping over a mile of nothing to get to another spawning area doesn't appease me, this is far from open world. Going 4v4 pvp so your p2p connections will suck less is a step backwards. No mouse or keyboard input on consoles is stagnant thinking. No 60 fps in a game that contains competetive shooting is stagnant thinking.
