Hear me out here before you go "Lol You're mad/hater/etc."
You have highly trained masters of light that are the leaders of the Vanguard, Crucible, Future War Cult, Dead Orbit, and New Monarchy who did literately nothing for 2 years after finding out about an outbound signal to a group of aliens, which are known for just blowing up planets and moons for getting in their way. No perimeters in space, no reinforced guards at the tower, or anything? Really?
On top of this, you have countless guardians (and you can see a ton of them in the trailer) that have beaten countless foes, including Hive Gods, kells, primes, several houses of faller, and even the countless factions of the Cabal themselves on their own turf....but yet even with their supposed insurmountable power they still could not protect the Tower from one invading faction of the cabal?
So I have to ask....what the actual fuck is up with the power of the guardians....one second they have the power to topple a god king with only 6 of them, but the next second and entire army of them and their leaders are absolutely worthless to stop anything. It's just so damn inconsistent and just makes everyone in the tower look like useless idiots that either can't plan for dick or don't actually know how to use their powers and just got lucky.
That's juts my thoughts, but I really DO hope they go into more depths with this because this is slowly turning into another "I don't have time to explain why I don't have time to explain" moment.
Edit: Again this is what with we know so far, but I have seen people bringing up a containment field that apparently suppresses light which begs another question: Why the hell was the one thing that is revered and worshiped as a Deity to the people of Earth and gives power to the guardians not under better surveillance/protection?
People also have brought up that it's a huge invasion as well, but forget that Oryx brought a huge invasion force of not only hive, but taken as well and we managed to take him down though that makes him seem a bit stupid as a villain because he knew what the traveler was, knew what powers it gave, but still did not focus the brunt of his attack against it and the people of earth.
Edit 2: Glad people are actually trying to have a civil discussion (for the most part) about this instead of hurling around insults and that people genuinely care about the lore/story as much as I do!

It's just a game. Don't over think it

8 RepliesHere's my take on it: We have killed all these spade monsters and are celebrating. Going about our daily Tower lives. Running around doing strikes. Just being overall kinda lazy and satisfied with our accomplishments. And then they drop the shield. The traveler is encased. We have no more powers. No subclasses. No revive capability. That's it. And then the Cabal force arrives. It's all guns from there. As far as why we don't have space defenses. Well, we've all been galavanting around trying to fend off foes on our own planet, and keep foes from getting to our planet. A lot has happened. Remember that the Reef has protected Earth more than we know, or care to remember. Now that there's no real leadership there (or fleet) the cabal probably smashed right through it with disregard. Who dafuq knows what Rasputin is doing. Guy's nuts. Lastly, WE HAVE NEVER BEATEN CABAL ON THEIR OWN TURF. We've killed platoons of them on Mars. We've killed the Skyburners on the Dreadnaugt. We have never been to their home world. And they are pissed. Why didn't the Vanguard m, or some one do anything since Outbound Signal? Probably because Oryx exhausted our efforts, the Fallen began playing splicer God, and resources were just spread way too thin. Blame the casuals.

Its a game just enjoy it.

Destiny 1 has no story and destiny 2 will have no story just play as it is, mindless bright colors on a screen shooting stuff on repeat

Edited by Shaft62702: 4/29/2017 6:48:04 PMI think you should just not buy the game if your suspension of disbelief is so weak. People throw magical flaming hammers that just appear but that's completely normal and doesn't need explanation but Bungie be damned if they don't completely explain every plot hole in their completely fictional story. Go buy some offline campaign only game if you are so concerned about a story. Destiny is about obtaining loot and shooting stuff not about a super deep story.

3 RepliesTldr You've seen 1 trailer and a teaser. Don't pretend in these mere moments of footage that you've ascertained the whole picture. It's embarrassing. Let the game come out before claiming is stupid, otherwise you look like a fool

Sorry, couldn't find the weapon controls for my ship. Every time I get in it just takes me to a different planet.
-
Because shotguns still need a nerf in the crucible

1 ReplySince when do things have to make sense in the world of Bungie?

Completely agreed

Yeah I know what you mean. I would just blame it on Zavala. -blam!- that guy.
It's just so damn inconsistent and just makes everyone in the tower look like useless idiots that either can't plan for dick or don't actually know how to use their powers and just got lucky.
Well you basically just described the dev team right there, so that alone should answer the majority of your questions.

1 ReplyEdited by Borisxthexblade: 4/29/2017 3:29:49 PMYea the thing does seem pretty busted as of now, we just gotta hope. I don't think another destiny 1 mistake show would hold up well. They should've done something with the traveler, possibly have the cabal launch a warhead or crash into it. Causing it to mush the tower killing countless guardians and cayde-6... (; annoying robot man. Maybe not that gruesome but knocking the traveler down seems far more simple than attacking the key location guardians reside. Makes sense about their light being taken away too. Imagine exploring decimated husk of the once great traveler, learning its secrets as well as obtaining sparks of light to empower enough guardians for an all out war.

Oryx was going after the Traveler but the Queen's Armada was able to stop him in his tracks, thus allowing us to board. The thing about the Cabal invasion is that we've never faced one before. Everything Cabal up to this point has been scouting and raiding parties. They have also been specifically developing technology to disable our light

Edited by PapaSubpar: 4/29/2017 5:38:37 PMUmmm...Hi! Sometimes you have to accept the situation for what it is. Just think about your second paragraph where you say...
"On top of this, you have countless guardians (and you can see a ton of them in the trailer) that have beaten countless foes, including Hive Gods, kells, primes, several houses of faller,(sic) and even the countless factions of the Cabal themselves on their own turf....but yet even with their supposed insurmountable power they still could not protect the Tower from one invading faction of the cabal?"
Just look at where we are at in terms of story for D1. The Speaker and everyone else is in the midst of their own self-gratification over what you yourself pointed out. This is our age of triumph...we are unbeatable. We have even slain invading gods. "Who would dare attack us in the seat of our power?" ...hopefully, the irony of that statement is not lost on any of the raiders here. But most of all, sometimes you need to just sit back, shut up, enjoy the story, and where it is bound to take you. Only at that point can you sit back and say..."Destiny 2's a bit ridiculous?"

Well after that that one scrub died everyone had to wipe

2 RepliesDon't underestimate the sneakiness of the Cabal. They are very sneaky very very sneaky

We don't know how big the Cabal invasion force is. Oryx, besides all of his forces, was the main power behind the Hive's Invasion. Even though he had legions at his disposal you ultimately were fighting just Oryx and his power. It wasn't even his complete force as he mostly came immediately, in his own ship, to get revenge for the death of his son. The Cabal have been trying to research a way to neutralize a Guardian abilities ever since our Guardian set foot on Mars. The force that was on Mars was sent to investigate a possible countermeasure to the Darkness, including Oryx, as they seem to be familiar with fighting it. For all their might, they have been unable to match firepower against "space magic." They went to Mars to secure the Traveler, but due to the collapse, they arrived after the Traveler's battle with the darkness and found it had moved to Earth. They also discovered that they had the same trouble with the powers of the Light as they did with the Darkness, "Space Magic." They soon became bogged down in a endless war on Mars with the Vex. Finding that the Vex could overun the system if left unchecked they decided to entrench themselves, with the end goal of holding off the Vex long enough for reinforcements to arrive to secure the Traveler. The Cabal on Mars have secured the planet, as ordered, but aren't able to both take the Traveler and halt the constant production of Vex from the Black Garden. So they continue, in their stubborn devotion to duty to fight the losing war on Mars until everything is ready for the final push; the taking of the Last City. We all know that the Cabal never do anything in part. If the Traveler is so important to their Empire's continued survival, then I suspect they will use all their military might to see it through.

1 ReplyI mean maybe if we didn't nerf the gjally in Y1 it would've been fine

Exactly 😂😂😂😂. They didn't do anything and we defeated gods.

No, you're not alone............you have 27 up-votes on this skunk ass board among the entire Destiny player base. Congrats.

1 ReplyEven today the most powerful armies have weaknesses. If ISIS figured out how to dismantle, disrupt, or destroy our global military comms system they would have an advantage. Now, imagine the plot of Red Dawn. Somehow North Korea was able to invade mainland US. This is due to some sort of super weapon, most likely a hacking device or emp. The Cabal are a far superior military force that will probably exploit some weakness in the Traveller. Maybe they strike while we are disarmed, in bed perhaps, or at a festival. In the event of a travellers light disruption and a surprise attack, we would stand little chance against a superior force.
oh, and.... its just a game bud! Relax.
5 RepliesThe lore for this game is complete shit.
-
It's a quite obvious answer
phalynx shields
I like to imagine they are going to sneak up on us and it only worked because by cutting us off from the light (if that's what happens) the cabal would have managed to do the tactical equivalent of sucker punching us with concrete boxing gloves.
