Am I the only one that thinks Destiny 2's a bit ridiculous? (from what we have seen)

Hear me out here before you go "Lol You're mad/hater/etc." You have highly trained masters of light that are the leaders of the Vanguard, Crucible, Future War Cult, Dead Orbit, and New Monarchy who did literately nothing for 2 years after finding out about an outbound signal to a group of aliens, which are known for just blowing up planets and moons for getting in their way. No perimeters in space, no reinforced guards at the tower, or anything? Really? On top of this, you have countless guardians (and you can see a ton of them in the trailer) that have beaten countless foes, including Hive Gods, kells, primes, several houses of faller, and even the countless factions of the Cabal themselves on their own turf....but yet even with their supposed insurmountable power they still could not protect the Tower from one invading faction of the cabal? So I have to ask....what the actual fuck is up with the power of the guardians....one second they have the power to topple a god king with only 6 of them, but the next second and entire army of them and their leaders are absolutely worthless to stop anything. It's just so damn inconsistent and just makes everyone in the tower look like useless idiots that either can't plan for dick or don't actually know how to use their powers and just got lucky. That's juts my thoughts, but I really DO hope they go into more depths with this because this is slowly turning into another "I don't have time to explain why I don't have time to explain" moment. Edit: Again this is what with we know so far, but I have seen people bringing up a containment field that apparently suppresses light which begs another question: Why the hell was the one thing that is revered and worshiped as a Deity to the people of Earth and gives power to the guardians not under better surveillance/protection? People also have brought up that it's a huge invasion as well, but forget that Oryx brought a huge invasion force of not only hive, but taken as well and we managed to take him down though that makes him seem a bit stupid as a villain because he knew what the traveler was, knew what powers it gave, but still did not focus the brunt of his attack against it and the people of earth. Edit 2: Glad people are actually trying to have a civil discussion (for the most part) about this instead of hurling around insults and that people genuinely care about the lore/story as much as I do!

  • Well, it's just about time for them to fire everyone working on the story and bring in a whole new team to cut it up, scrap huge sections of it, and piece together the remains using code taken from Windows 95 anyway so who knows where the story might come from, where the story might go, where the story might come from cotton eyed joe. Personally I'm going to wait until after that fiasco before I start wasting brain power on lore.

  • That may be true but how much of that god-slaying was done by pure gun skill? If they block the Traveler, we have no abilities left, hell even our jumping (glide, lift, double jump) are considered abilities. Also, the Cabal are military geniuses, we aren't. Without our powers we wouldn't have been able to accomplish anything that we have, so the Cabal could easily trample us.

  • You should think of that as an demonstration of The cabal power, showing us how powerfull they actually are

  • Have you ever been to the tower. You can't shoot or anything. You just run around kicking a ball, climb a tree and jump on a fan. That's why the cabal destroy it.

    • The Cabal laid out a well surprised plan. The tower was the last city, mankind on the brink of extinction, they came in full force and who knows how much they outnumbered us. The tower overwatched the city, with guardians placed all throughout the galaxy a surprise attack would work. With the city losing and numerous guardians missing the traveler had no choice but to put up some type of barrier around itself knowing that if it fell all would lost.

A few things. 1. The Cabal force in Sol is a scout team. Nothing more. 2. At this point we don't know the final details of how the Cabal surprise the Tower, city, Vanguard, etc. 3. As far as we knew the signal was shutoff, end of mission and we had other shit to deal with. 4. We know very little of the Cabal, their power, the size of their forces, tech, and numbers. We have bits and pieces kind of pasted together, but nothing conclusive. 5. I'm pretty sure this isn't just a "faction" rather "THE FACTION". Empire. The whole of it. They want the traveller and its power. 6. The game is being pieced back together after the cluster -blam!- that was pre-release and a story that (sorry to say it) wasn't cohesive even without Activision being Activision. 7. The Tower, The Traveller, the light, have to fall for the story to flow. It makes sense. It allows for whatever mystery that is the Traveller to be revealed and our characters to find the strength to continue without it... Perhaps, find a way to wield the power of time, the deep, pure strength (of will, tech, and knowledge), and the light, ourselves for ourselves. 8. Plus, shit getting blow'd up is cool.

    • from a story point of view it can be summed up in one word "overconfidence". Think about it. oryx could of appeared right over earth and nuked the city, but he didn't, not to mention from a strategical point of view it's not smart to bring the flagship to the front line of a battle. no matter how confident you are. We don't really know how much the cabal know about the traveler. overconfidence is what has defeated all the bosses so far. Now the guardians have fallen for the very same reason. also you have to remember the hunter that didn't have time to explain why she didn't have time to explain. she was not made of the light, but she had abilities.

      • Idk. Space magic? Look. I just like shooting aliens. Destiny did that well. Destiny 2 will probably do that well, as... well. Your over thinking is ruining it for you.

        • The tower has guns. They are mostly stationary and point away from the tower, so they are worthless against targets directly above. As for the vanguard, they should of expected something. Although, it's possible the cabal have some kind of stealth technology. I mean, I wouldn't expect an 800 pound space turtle to just show up outa nowhere.

        • There's a ton of plot points in stories that are utterly ridiculous and yet we still endure them even in "great" stories. The Villain who would rather talk to our hero than pull the trigger.
James Bond, anyone?
The character who runs upstairs instead of out the door. The bad guys that can't miss unless they're aiming for our hero. The hero who struggles to beat up one bad guy in the beginning, but mauls through dozens with ease on his way to the boss. The eavesdropping character who stops listening one sentence too soon. You can either read too deep and break any level of immersion, or enjoy the story for what it is - entertainment.

        • I have a couple thoughts. My understanding is that the guardians didn't kill Oryx, but the worm that gave him power killed him. Oryx was required by the worm to be a conquerer, and strategic leader, but he acted on personal feeling instead and acted rashly. When the guardian "bested" him in combat Oryx wasn't being a conquerer, a strategic leader and the worm, who Oryx had already failed previously, decided enough was enough and ended his immortal life. If the worm hadn't killed Oryx earth would have been screwed. In terms of the cabal taking down the tower there is the idea that the Traveler was contained in some way. Apparently in the lore the cabal were studying vex and hive technology that prevented guardians from respawning. (Hard mode raids, which technically SIVA had too). So in some way there were able to stop guardians from respawning. Plus solar burn and trickle were probably on at that time which gave them an advantage as well :P

        • One: canonically there is only one "The Guardian". Not six. Not three. Not even two. Just a single, lonesome, all powerful Guardian. Two: a perimeter wouldn't do much against a full-on Cabal invasion. Any Cabal we have fought currently are just scout teams. Scout teams that weren't even prepared for our Guardians in the first place. The start of Destiny 2 is the culmination of everything the Cabal have learned about Guardians and the Light and how they can stop us.

          • We were all stood dancing while in the menus, deleting all the blue engram drops, when there was a couple of crack "Pitah-Patah" shots from a cabal ship, a few rockets from Rocket McDickface's pissed off brother and we were screwed. Beeping on minimum health and running around like headless chickens, blinded by the orange screens of cabal explosions. To top it off our controllers went flat from all the explosion rumbles.

            • I cant speak for anyone else but the reason why my guardian couldn't help defend the tower was cuz he was on LFG trying to find a decent raid group.

Knowledge is anyone's greatest weapon, nay, it is their greatest asset of all. Consider that, and realize the raids were only successful due to that. Unless you meant to tell me there was even a single group that did not fail at all blind to what needed to be done. Planning and preparing around that knowledge produces results. It's also why misinformation is worse than none at all. It can lead to disaster. Also the cabal have the knowledge advantage at this point in the story. So they easily became the victor.

                • Only our guardian and their fireteam slew gods and such lore wise, the rest are just average guardians. We've had the power of the light to help us out the whole time. I believe the theory of the traveler in the containment field to be most plausible, because the cabal were searching for ways to permanently kill guardians, and the must have learned it on the Dreadnaught and sent that info to the empire. The cabal we've faced thus far is only a scouting/ reconnaissance force, not the full extent of their might. We've become more than an annoyance to them, so they are sending the Red Guard, their best Legion equiped with war machines that we have yet to see of the cabal. What I don't know is what happened to our guardian, or how we got caught off guard.
