Hear me out here before you go "Lol You're mad/hater/etc."
You have highly trained masters of light that are the leaders of the Vanguard, Crucible, Future War Cult, Dead Orbit, and New Monarchy who did literately nothing for 2 years after finding out about an outbound signal to a group of aliens, which are known for just blowing up planets and moons for getting in their way. No perimeters in space, no reinforced guards at the tower, or anything? Really?
On top of this, you have countless guardians (and you can see a ton of them in the trailer) that have beaten countless foes, including Hive Gods, kells, primes, several houses of faller, and even the countless factions of the Cabal themselves on their own turf....but yet even with their supposed insurmountable power they still could not protect the Tower from one invading faction of the cabal?
So I have to ask....what the actual fuck is up with the power of the guardians....one second they have the power to topple a god king with only 6 of them, but the next second and entire army of them and their leaders are absolutely worthless to stop anything. It's just so damn inconsistent and just makes everyone in the tower look like useless idiots that either can't plan for dick or don't actually know how to use their powers and just got lucky.
That's juts my thoughts, but I really DO hope they go into more depths with this because this is slowly turning into another "I don't have time to explain why I don't have time to explain" moment.
Edit: Again this is what with we know so far, but I have seen people bringing up a containment field that apparently suppresses light which begs another question: Why the hell was the one thing that is revered and worshiped as a Deity to the people of Earth and gives power to the guardians not under better surveillance/protection?
People also have brought up that it's a huge invasion as well, but forget that Oryx brought a huge invasion force of not only hive, but taken as well and we managed to take him down though that makes him seem a bit stupid as a villain because he knew what the traveler was, knew what powers it gave, but still did not focus the brunt of his attack against it and the people of earth.
Edit 2: Glad people are actually trying to have a civil discussion (for the most part) about this instead of hurling around insults and that people genuinely care about the lore/story as much as I do!

3 RepliesThe cabal figured out that if they have a red bar connection, guardians don't stand a chance. They also bribed the sandbox team to nerf all our weapons....

3 RepliesSomeone mentioned it before but I don't remember who. There was a grimoire card about Oryx saying that in his attempt to defeat the guardians he was acting more like a mad father than a thoughtful king. On top of that, a large part of his forces were taken out by Mara Sov and the Awoken. So we only faced a part of the Taken/Hive invasion. On top of that, they were stopped at the rings of Saturn, so he couldn't do his Hive boogaloo on the Traveler to drain our light; if that's what he intended to do anyway. As for the factions and Vanguard; according to the "Outbound Signal" card, Dead Orbit confirmed that the message was received by the Cabal Empire, but they do not know in what region of space they received it. Dead Orbit will continue to monitor, but they don't know exactly where to look. So they know the Cabal will be coming, but they don't know where from; which makes it hard to set up perimeters in space. New Monarchy, on the other hand, wants the Cabal to respond. In the Grimoire card "Cabal Champions" an operative of New Monarchy analyzes the state of the Cabal forces in system and notes how crushed they are under hive and guardian assault. Keep in mind that New Monarchy isn't too fond of the Speaker and the way the city is governed. They want to get rid of the Speaker and instate a Monarch with absolute power over the city. Kind of like what the Cabal Empire has. So, I don't think it's a far off assumption that New Monarchy wants the city to be destroyed by the Cabal, so they could make an argument that absolute Monarchy is the way to go about things. Just because the factions are part of the city and tower, doesn't mean they won't work towards their own agendas. That being said, I completely agree with you. It's a little weird to go from slaying gods to being invaded and beaten by space elephants with guns. Though, the Cabal we fought on Mars and the Dreadnought are only a recon force, how much stronger could the Red Legion be? It would make more sense if we were invaded and destroyed by the Architects.

9 RepliesEdited by AkikoKumimo: 4/30/2017 2:03:20 PMKeep in mind, all those guardians did nothing at all in any sort of raid. The only canon raids relevant to destiny is your guardian's. It has only ever done one of each raid, and killed each raid boss once. So, in the story, there is your guardian, THE guardian, that has done everything. Same goes for everyone else. Their guardian is THE guardian in the story. Everyone else they fight with was just invited to the raid, and helped. But the vanguard only recognizes YOUR guardian as THE guardian. So no, there are not countless guardians that have killed gods. There is one. And it is yours.

You can't fight in the tower, I've tried, so we all got chased out, and the place was demolished.

1 Reply...a plot hole within the game's story, suggesting that the writing by the storyboard devs was poorly implemented (and/or uncreative) and therefore results in...

All the guardians abilities and weapons were nerfed so we were ripe of the taking by the cabal. They came st us with tanks and we fought themwith waterguns and marshmallow launchers. That we lost was no shocker.
-
Everyone at the tower is there standing around dancing because no one would raid with them because they didn't have Gjallarhorn. Just wait until all those Gjallarhorns come back...
-
4 RepliesThe Cabal were lagging so the guardians couldn't see them until they got attacked. That's why they are the RED Legion.
-
As a guess it's the best way they could reset the world while keeping the "story" valid but my main question I would like answered is - how in gods name does the entire tower miss a huge battalion of space hippos?
-
It turns out that the new Cabal units only weakness was Fusion Rifles, but alas after all the nerfs incurred in Destiny 1 they were no match for the Cabals superior Phalanxes

Edited by Seamus Awl: 5/4/2017 6:47:00 PMLook at it this way. The Cabal sent their best elite force with weapons and defenses created to fight us. They also forced us to fight as a regimented unit. We are used to fighting as 6 man or less units. It kind of parallels Caesar's conquest of the Gauls. The Gauls fought as small individual tribes against Caesar's regimented roman military machine. Even when they came together and had superior numbers they lost because they were not used to it.
Do you think it was on accident that they named the Cabal boss Ghaul?
On top of that, they probably also assaulted the traveler and began blocking his light. As the connection to his light began to fade, more guardians fell and did not come back.

4 Replies1000 guardians died to Crota on the moon. We took him down with 6 . . . IN HIS NETHERWORLD
-
1 ReplyI hope the first mission in destiny 2 is like the last mission of halo reach, so basically we defend the tower until we fall. Then after we go down a cut scene happens where some guardians on a drop ship come down and pick us up and leave the tower to fall.
-
I fully agree. Also throw on there the fact that there's a -blam!-ing legion of battle frames like Shaxx's Redjacks.
Full check list of what a bunch of oversized space pigs are fighting. *The guardian who has killed gods. Monsters, and kings. *The team of guardians that helped the guardian bring down three very powerful gods. *The entire rest of the Guardian force. *Battle frame legions. *Normal soldiers. *Dead Orbit's fleet. And that's just city forces.
But hey, I guess all that doesn't matter so long as you have ships that can move really fast.

1 ReplyOryx was massively weakened before we killed him , we've decimated the hive and Crota taking away a huge amount of tribute, then the awoken destroyed most of his fleet before we arrived, then the cabal laid siege within the dreadnaught. During which we killed his lieutenants which again drained his power (in the court of oryx) plus warpriest, golgoroth and his daughters by this point he's on his arse and running on fumes with his worm killing him anyway.
-
3 RepliesWe couldn't stop them because all of our weapons and abilities were nerfed.
-
5 RepliesI kind of wonder why we answer to the Vanguard. Like, did they slay Atheon? No, they died in the Vault. Did Eris and her team kill Crota? No, nope...Oryx? After he wiped out the Awoken Queen and most of her navy, we went on to kill him, even going so far as to make a game out of his death (16 bomb strat)...and Aksis? Well after the SIVA bees killed off all but two of the Iron Lords, we had to go in a clean up the mess. The list goes on and on. Shouldn't those pansies be working for us? I'd love to be able to use them as companions, or send them on silly missions for money and resources.

They are struggling because I haven't joined the fight yet.

Am I the only one that thinks Destiny 2's a bit ridiculous? (from what we have seen) We haven't seen anything. Lol
-
Any excuse to take away my 'jazz hands'. I swear the first Cabal I see flashen 'em around the tower is a dead man!
-
I'm just wanting to waste some money tbh

2 RepliesThe Cabal we've been fighting right now are a scouting force, and even then they've had the power to conquer Mars and win against the Vex there. The Cabal also have tactics on their side. They know about our connection to the Ghosts and the Light. By attacking the Traveler, it cuts off what makes us powerful and they know it. The City has nearly been defeated by the Fallen, and, while they are vicious, they are nowhere near as organized, methodical, or technologically advanced as the Cabal. The Fallen also never targeted the Traveler, since they wanted to reclaim it rather than destroy it. We've never had an enemy race attack the Traveler directly yet, so we have no judge of how big of a weakness it is. Destiny's enemies don't seem too dangerous to us, but imagine if every time you wiped, that was it. Restart your character. That's pretty much what it's like for all Guardians. We just have the luxury of playing it as a video game, so we get as many chances as we need. This has no evidence to back it up, but I would love it if the Concordat sabotaged the City's defenses right before the Cabal attack. They have agents inside of the City and Tower already, and are actively looking to bring down the City. It'd be an excellent way to introduce them into the story as a threat.
-
True. Oryx was pretty dumb. Seems like the cabal will be a worthy foe
-
Well, it's just about time for them to fire everyone working on the story and bring in a whole new team to cut it up, scrap huge sections of it, and piece together the remains using code taken from Windows 95 anyway so who knows where the story might come from, where the story might go, where the story might come from cotton eyed joe. Personally I'm going to wait until after that fiasco before I start wasting brain power on lore.
