If you're expected to tip, you should. Most wages for waiters are pretty shit. I usually go 20% or more for good service. 5%-15% if they're subpar. 0% only if they're racist or something.
-
Depends how much they disappoint me.
-
Two hundred BILLION percent.

1 ReplyEdited by AnAverageGamer: 3/6/2017 2:28:48 AM0%. I also always complain to the manager about the food too so I always get it all for free. Want more money? Should have made better career choices! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! God I love throwing my obvious superiority around... and depriving people of money they need to live while I get free food they wish they could have (and laughing in their faces while I do) is just the best feeling ever. I mean... it's already great knowing I'll always be above some people, but I'll be even more happy once everybody else knows it too. :) Wait, who's Napoleon?

Just a little information for those of you who have no idea where the tips go. Many people here seem to think that the waiter/waitress keep the entire tip. This is usually not the case. Some places use a pool and split it at the end of the night (coffee places are an example of this), while others will split each tip up into parts. I spent several years (on both the kitchen and on the floor) in restaurants, and for the most part, here is how the tips were distributed. Per dollar: 50 cents kept by waiter/waitress 20 cents kept by dish 20 cents kept by kitchen 10 cents kept by expo That is assuming the management isn't corrupt and skimming off the top of your tip. Now of that, the waiter/waitress and expo (who is one person) keep their share, but the dish and kitchen split theirs. Dish usually by 2-4 people, and kitchen by 2-8 depending on size of kitchen, and time of day. So let's assume you leave a $3 tip. The waiter/ waitress is making a $1.50. They get paid well under minimum wage where I live ($8/h vs $11.25/h). That supplemental $1.50 will not get them up to minimum wage. Realistically, the waiter/waitress will get between 0-3 tables an hour. Some hours they will get -blam!-ed, most they will barely break even (with 2 tables) and rarely they will make more. The kitchen staff and dish crew also get shafted. When I was on line, that 60 cents would get split 6 ways. So I would see 10 cents per table. Now to be fair, I would easily get 10-20 tables an hour, and I was paid more than minimum wage, but seeing 10 cents per table is a bit of an insult to be honest. The point being, that most people don't realize how much that tip gets split up. So be kind, most people in the industry work long hours in shit conditions. Also, don't be they guy that comes in 2 minutes before close.

2 RepliesI rarely tip less than 20% because I'm not a stingy douche.
-
$1 for every $5
-
Idk about percent, but I usually tip $3 unless the bill is over $20. Or less if it was a shitty waiter/waitress
-
2 RepliesNone because it's an American custom which idiots here (England) think that tipping applies too. Why am I paying you to do your job?
-
My mom was a waitress when i was growing up so i understand that tips are needed to pay bills...so unless they are just flat horrible i give at least 20%...
-
14 RepliesHere in 'straya, we have a much more efficient system where wages arent allowed to dip low enough that the tipping culture is required to make ends meet.
-
I always tiped 20% but after waiting tables for a while I critique other waiters harder. You do the bare minimum, don't pay attention to my drink running low and I'll only tip you 10 or 15%, do a real bad job and you'll be lucky to get anything. I'm poor myself and I know the job ain't hard to do right.
NOW WITH ADDED 0% OPTION BECAUSE NOT EVERYONE IS AN AMERICAN!
Scum tbh
-
Here we tip only if we can't find some change. So, usually 0%.
-
4 RepliesI tip my waitors 20% and my waitresses 15.4%
-
1 ReplyDepends. Come ask how I'm doing while I'm takin a bite of my food, you get nothing!
-
No, they get an hourly wage. That's good enough, why would I pay you for doing your job? That's your boss's problem, not mine. Next time I'm working I'll just ask people that I help for money and see how it goes.
-
Nothing. Neither of my countries of residence rely on such asinine systems.
-
Average is 20% but can go up or down depending on service.
-
-
I'm American and I tip 0%.
-
20% almost every single time. Unless they truly, truly suck
