You are given a choice between two games

Option 1

239

Option 2

158

Good evening everybody! This is Aifos coming to you alive from none other than the floating city of Hekseville! Staring out at that infinite expanse of sky made me think.. One day you are approached by a man, offering you one free playthrough of one of two up-and-coming video games. These games just so happened to be made specifically to appeal to you, so a lot of it is made to perfection (to you), and as such the two games are almost exactly the same; however.. tl;dr? Start here; this is my point! Option 1 has the best story and lore you have & ever will see! No matter how hard you try, you just can't find a single tidbit of lore you aren't in love with! However, the gameplay is lacking a bit. It's still fun, but it's definitely far from the best. Option 2 has a fairly sub-par story. You still find it pretty interesting, but there's a lot that could be improved. On the other hand, the gameplay is amazing! You don't even need a single tutorial, because everything flows so naturally! There's not a single thing you would change about the control scheme, if you could! Once you finish a single playthrough of the story, you give the game back to the man. There will never be any footage of either game, nor will either ever be released, so this is your only chance to ever encounter this story, or play a game like this. Ever. Which do you choose? My answer:
I'd go with the story myself. It'd be great inspiration for my writing. ^-^

And before anyone mentions it; yes, I know my "tl;dr" is longer than before it. I don't use tl;dr as a summary; everything before it is exposition, everything after is my point.
Edit; both games take about a week to complete, and aside from story/gameplay are more or less the exact same

#1 is literally The Elder Scrolls. #2 is pretty much any FPS. I'd choose #1.

  • Gameplay won't stick with you that long, but you'll remember a good story for the rest of your life.

Option 2 for sure. A great story is awesome to have, but if the gameplay has nothing to really show for, I might as well just sit down to watch a good show or movie. Gameplay is what offers me replay value.

          • If the game doesn't play good I won't finish it. For me an example would be The Witcher 3. Hyped to the moon for its story and atmosphere but boring to play and repetitive IMO, never finished.

          • I'm not really a story fan myself. I enjoy game play much more, I just find a good story to be a bonus. It's why I like Destiny, at launch. The story I didn't complain about because I don't care enough, nut damn, the gunplay is great! Say what you will, but if there's 2 things that game nailed it's music and gunplay.

            • 2, because if the story in 1 is THAT good - I'd get super depressed after being done with it and realizing nothing will ever be quite like it, and that satisfaction I would've had from it. Like when I finished reading the Ender series. Or when I couldn't access any new dialogue with a custom companion in Skyrim. Or a lot of things.

            • Option #2. It sounds like Titanfall 2 to me. Some of my favorite games have a bad story or don't have one at all. I'm a gameplay guy and always have been. If you look through my gaming history over the last few years, my favorite games are Destiny, Overwatch, Rainbow Six: Siege, and Titanfall 2.

              • If I find the gameplay subpar, I'm not going to enjoy the game for a long time, I don't really care about the story. I can't stand Telltale games because of this.

              • I'd say gameplay. To me, a game that purely focuses on story is a badly done game. They're more like interactive visual novels... and if I want that kind of amaxing story I'll pick up a book.

                • Option 2 A game with a good story I'll play every once in a while but a game with good gameplay will keep me entertained for months.

A good story told poorly isn't as good as a mediocre story told well, IMO

The fact I like telltale stuff just shows story is more important to me then gameplay. Destiny lacking story but has superb gameplay but yet I have less then 20 hours played and ive had it since release.
