How many people here were so excited to get an exotic and then it gets nerfed to where it is unusable? Its happened to me with Suros, Khvostov, No Time to Explain, Red Death, Thunderlord, the poor poor Necrochasm and Pocket Infinity, and so many more...
Why are exotics so underperforming? Not just in PvP either, Khvostov is useless as a pulse rifle or a scout rifle, Suros is painful, Black Spindle is worse than Black Hammer, Tresspasser is painful in PvE, Touch of Malice gets nerfs, and so much more.
I just want exotics that are fun to play anywhere

I came to this post thinking it was gonna be a "Truth" pun...

Exotics under perform because in order for them to perform.....people gotta die in PvP, and it's not nice when people die and then the game ain't fun and no one wants to play, so they gotta "balance" them. Question answered. Suggestion? Give Exotics their own damage tier in PvE so that they do more damage in that mode, but will be balanced in PvP since damage tiers are turned off in the Crucible...except in Iron Banner. Or have it so you can only reach max light lvl with an exotic equipped. Something like that maybe.

Bungie: "Hmmm, it seems as though our exotics are performing well! Good! Now time to nerf them and make green weapons optimal!" Us: "😐 Dafuq? 👏"

1 ReplyEdited by NorthStRussia: 12/3/2016 3:08:29 AMSUROS: it's got good, unique perks, but an awful archetype that needs a buff. Red Death and No Time to Explain: same deal as SUROS Black Spindle: true, it's worse than Black Hammer, but Black Hammer was the most ridiculously overpowered legendaries in the game. It's fine imo. Trespasser: it isn't too terrible in PvE, maybe sidearms could use a bigger crit multiplier but they aren't horrible. Khvostov: Yup the semi-auto and pulse are pathetic, I was really looking forward to the gun until I realized that the only decent setup, out of like 108 possibilities, is the braced frame highest RoF auto. It should behave like a regular pulse rifle or scout when it's in that setting, and have a major damage boost. It does like 40% less damage as a scout/pulse than as an auto. Thunderlord: It's still good but it should really have the functioning field scout perk or some way to get to 60+ in the mag. Reaching the 3rd RoF stage was the most unique thing about the gun. Pocket Infinity and Necrochasm are actually pretty unique and effective in PvP, just not up to year 3 light levels. Touch of Malice: I get the nerf, it's a little annoying, but it's all anybody would use in Wrath of the Machine if it wasn't nerfed.

1 ReplyBungie does not believe exotics should perform better than other weapons because then there wouldn't be variety. What Bungie miscalculated was that this means there's no real desire for exotics. Personally I don't think they should be legendaries with one extra unique perk. Exotics should just be flat out BETTER than their counterparts. Eh.

2 Repliesif i had it my way exotics would return to their original state at launch. it used to be such a rush to have the chance to get an exotic when you opened a chest. now they are pretty ho hum with the exception of a small handful of weapons. they should be extremely rare and unusually powerful.
-
All of those Exotics are very useable, they are just balanced and can't compete with the few OP weapons.
-
The only exotics I use are TLW, Gallaoverpowered, and truth. Literally the only exotics I use on a daily. Occasionally throw in MIDA.

22 RepliesTo be fair the community is also to blame for the state of exotics. The community pretty much created Content Walls. You were required to have ___ exotic in order to do ____. No questions asked, no exceptions. Look at yr1 and Gjallarhorn for the most infamous example. However in a game that 90% RNG this eventually forced the development hand. That said, Legendaries back in the day weren't all that great. The original plan/statement was that Exotics would be unique items that changed/shook up gameplay. They never meant for them to be extremely OP nor did they foresee them becoming a requirement for content. That said. I do feel Exotics could use some buffs as many have perks that just "meh". I personally feel this is to keep PVP in check however. Look back at Thorn, Hawkmoon, Last Word, Suros, Universal Remote back in the day. Exotics got abused in PVP. Now, you can't really blame the community for doing so however.

Edited by TheShadow: 12/1/2016 3:01:13 PMExotics are not exotics anymore because most wanted this game to be easy instead of actually wanting it to improve. So what did Bungie do? Added 3OC that literally turned exotics into a ( material ) for progression. Killing having some sense of value making them pointless to even want to acquire. Yet Bungie makes some somewhat of a challenge with an RNG chance to acquiring and calls them unique. So thank you everyone that put their selfishness before wanting what this game actually needs that could actually improve it. Whoops! Almost forgot. Love the obsession Bungie has over nerfing this entire game.
-
It all started when they changed their philosophy on exotics. Initially they were intended to be more powerful versions of legendaries but after a time Bungie decided that they wanted to bring them in line with legendary guns and that was the beginning of the end for exotics.
-
when I ran out of vault space the first thing I dismantled was most of my exotics.
-
1 ReplyThe community did it with all the nerf posts. To be honest I always was annoyed that it didn't matter what legendary I had, the exotic was always a better option for pvp. I sort of enjoy using different legendaries rather than 1 exotic.

I use suros but with spinning up. It mows down groups of enemies in PVE or PVP, or is good for taking down supers and over shields.

4 RepliesWe did it to our selves when everyone in this community comes here to call for nerfs everytime they get killed

They are infusion fuel

1 ReplyAccording to my recent experiences, Red Death is better than where it was during the taken King. It used to take 4 long and tedious bursts, but now it only takes 3, and it feels much better than where it used to be. Khvostov however, has always been in a bad spot. Not only that, but Bungie didn't think of the damage change there should be when switching modes. Plus the gun was overhyped once there was a leak of the photo.

1 ReplyWhen da hell did khvostov get nerfed?!

30 RepliesTwo reasons. 1. Bungie created some Year One exotics that were just frankly overpowered, and threatened to break the game. Especially in PVE. Gjallarhorn, Ice Breaker, BlackHammer and Fatebringer (exotics that were masquerading as legendaries). Bungie did away with them because they were so OP that "build diversity" vanished ( i.e. everyone ran around with the same loadouts). Plus play diversity vanished. The solution to every boss fight became: Stack as a many Gjallarhorns, Black Hammers, Ice Breakers and Hungers of Crota as possible. Try to burn down the boss befor the fight starts. If that doesn't work....snipe until your heavy ammo synths come of cooldown...then lay into the boss again with multiple GHorns. 2. The tuning of the game for PVE in Year One turned loose exotics into PVP that were gamebreaking: Suros Regime, Vex Mythoclast, Pocket Infinity...and the exotic Hand cannons. Build diversity and play diversity vanished in pvp as well. So for year 2, the philosophy flipped....and exotics were tuned for pvp balance. So exotics had their power nerfed into the ground so hard that most of them now can be easily beaten by a well-rolled legendary...and their perks are so situational, that the most of them are little more than interesting toys. So here we sit at the crossroads of an unsolvable problem. Make exotic powerful enough to make using them fun (especially in PVE) and they break the balance of PVP, and perhaps the tuning of the PVE game. Balance exotics for PVP...and you wind up weapons that are weak, bland and lifeless. Hardly worth calling "exotic". Until such time as Bungie seperates the gear systems.....this situations just going sway back and forth between these two poles.

I still love Thunderlord !!!

1 ReplyEdited by daaamiche: 12/3/2016 8:14:36 PMBungie should make ALL exotics OP in PVE They are exotics for a reason last time I checked and you can only equip one at a time. In PvP I understand more balance is necessary but why they get their panties in a bunch over PVE is beyond me!

They nerfed my poor last word to the ground, sure i still use it out of habit and love but with its hip fire perk eliminated and ghost bullets being a thing it's been beat up pretty bad.

1 ReplyYear one was the last time an exotic felt exotic, rest in peace RD T TLW meta.
