I could write a research paper on what makes a fun multiplayer game, but instead... I'll just make a suggestion that will help you understand what I'm talking about:
Objectively play a session of Destiny, a game you most likely have hours devoted to(meaning you know your way around it), and then play a session of TitanFall 2.
I won't spoil anything If you haven't played this game. However, I feel that it's important that you have this experience(comparing the baseline experience of Destiny and TF2 in PVP)so that you can report your findings to the crucible sandbox team. I say this, not to bag on Destiny, but out of love. I'm confident after playing TF2, you will understand what I'm getting at with this post.
I know that the team at Bungie is aware of how important it is to have a solid PVP experience. I know that considerable resources have been assigned to work on Destiny 2 and it is a critical time to get things going in the right direction. To put it bluntly, right now the crucible isn't much fun, and the community has been very vocal on what they feel are the reasons.
DO NOT MISTAKE "NUMBER OF PLAYERS" FOR "PLAYER SATISFACTION". I continue to play Destiny because of the oscillation between cooperative and competitive events... When one is stale, I move to another. However, one side is, and always has been a better, more polished experience, that being PVE. Many people are here for that very reason, but at some point, the absolutely defeating feeling of the crucible becomes too much, and activity drops. I'm already seeing it on my friends list right now.
It doesn't have to be this way. The entire philosophy is so off base and wrong for the crucible... And it's deeper than just bad connections, poor weapon balance, shifting metas, and limited map design. The problems with the crucible are so numerous because the entire act of crucible is counter to itself...
1. Supers and heavy weapons make the game more casual, yet we are matched aggressively by skill. We're told to "not take it seriously but the entire back-end ensures that we take it damn serious or else it's a snow ball of supers and one shot kills.
2. The entire game is based on loot, but you better use the few weapons that perform in the limited map design if you want to not be destroyed. I CANNOT believe that Auto rifles are still in the shape they are in after all this time.
3. On top of not having any options for social or casual play, we have an entire competitive mode, with content locked behind a 9-0 tournament THAT HAS ALMOST ZERO MODERATION. Dig into the paid carry scene Cozmo... What you will find there is staggering, and the situation is worse than people believe. NO COMPETITIVE GAME OR SPORT OPERATES BY HAVING PAID PROFESSIONALS COMPETING AGAINST AVERAGE JOES, and then giving them a trophy for it. It's like the Cubs playing the weekend warrior dads baseball team. Not to mention cheating... Which is related to everything wrong with trials currently.
4. There is only a few ways to play Destiny, and every change made to increase TTK and promote counter play, has resulted in the same"bait and ambush" gameplay that exists in every modern shooter. The issue is that Destiny isn't every other modern shooter, and has the potential for so much more.
I understand that TF2 and Destiny are two very different games, but the common thread in PVP for both games is that players are fighting each other. If you take the time to take part in this request, pay attention to the things that make that process less stressful, and more in line with the goals set forth by BUNGIE for the crucible...
A fun casual experience for players of all skill and type to enjoy.
Right now fun is the last thing I would call the crucible.

2 RepliesI've been over it for weeks but I just want to go flawless dammit. I know I'm good enough

12 RepliesSry dude but i think youve picked the wrong game to compare destiny to. Tf2 has way too many glitches, the wall run aspect of the game is just plain retarded to name 1 i.e. wallrun & fall out of map. While i will admit destiny has its probs i have yet to fall out of the map once. Tf1 is still better than tf2, i will probably buy tf2 at some point as i am a fan of the franchise but not until its at least had a handful of patches.

2 RepliesThis is the post Bungie needs to read out of all the post on this forum for the past few months.

9 RepliesEdited by HOSSERS: 11/29/2016 6:41:03 PMThank you black Friday for selling titanfall for $28. My copy comes in on the 6th. I hope the story is good.

Edited by SHRAiK_TM: 11/29/2016 8:47:09 PMBy the way, thanks to this post i did a little research on Titanfall 2, watched some gameplay and really liked it. I bought it 5 minutes ago, so yeah, it's now official - i'm switching to Titanfall 2 while waiting for the (let's hope so) next quality of life Destiny update. If it doesn't come - it's been an incredible experience playing Destiny since the Beta, but i'm truly and utterly sick of the state the game is at the moment, especially the pvp scene. Cheers everybody.

Well said. I was playing tf2 last night and could not help notice how completely lag free the PVP was. I mean completely lag free, crisp gameplay!

Someones been to the clinic for good feedback. I wonder if bungie have read this. I thought it was well written

Very well said

1 ReplyOn Point!

It's funny, I was grinding TF2 and could not understand why I was having so much fun with it. Then I realized.. oh ya, I don't have 700 + hours into my PVP. So I'm not sitting there rage quitting because a string of bad IB matches dropped my k/d below 1.0. But that's besides the point your making. I hate to say it because I am such a hard core Destiny fan, but I have to agree.

8 RepliesShame I'm not getting Titanfall until Christmas...

2 RepliesBottom line is Destiny as a whole is trash. It was a great fantastic game a year or so ago. Why? Because not much else was out for current gen consoles. But now with the plethora of new games it's just stale. I mean seriously. We as a community are still grinding the same strikes we played two years ago. Still running patrol on the same routes we farmed materials on to upgrade one node. And PvP. Boy. I genuinely believe they mess with balance in order to regenerate interest in grinding new weapons for the new meta. Break out people. Play something else. I just bought BLOPS 3 for Black Friday and have had more genuine fun in PvP than I have had in Destiny ever.

1 ReplyEvery time I see "TF2" I think team fortress
-
3 RepliesI've no incentive to play PvE anymore due to lack of active players. PvP is lag fest even when I want to play it the most.
Titanfall 2 is better.
Team fortress 2...

Good post.

COZMO!! Attention required... Please play Titanfall 2
He already is... I mean, what did you think he was playing... Destiny? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
-
4 RepliesTitanfall 2 is so slow... part of the reason is because the limited amount of time I played my group insisted on playing LTS but even so it's hardly comparable to Destiny. As frustrating as Destiny PvP gets at times its still far more exciting than running around with huge robots with a million hit points.

Titanfall is amazing.

2 RepliesI usually use year one guns in crucible. Just pointing it out that it doesnt matter how good the gun is most of the time. Sometimes.

Nice post. Very well stated

3 RepliesSucks to see a game like titan fall get ignored by the masses Great story Decent PvP And free dlc with no microtransactions? But here you have games like CoD and destiny with microtransactions and overpriced dlc aplenty getting all the money It's a damn shame
-
I think titan fall 2 is a great game, but I don't think there is anything destiny pvp can take from it besides dedicated servers. In titan fall, there is a handful of weapons, abilities, perks, etc. Destiny has a vast number of weapons, weapon perks, etc. Which makes balancing difficult. If a weapon is even slightly better than other weapons, that's what people will use. The only way to truly balance pvp would be give everyone a handful of weapons that can only be used in pvp, and ban other weapons.

9 RepliesEdited by SHRAiK_TM: 11/29/2016 8:48:00 PMVery good post man! I don't know what Cosmo will do, but i will definitely try Titanfall 2. Some of my friends have also switched to that game, cause Destiny pvp is too sweaty for them. I'm still playing and still keeping around 1 k/d on all 3 characters (and lately less), but i'm getting more and more frustrated with the game. If they don't change a lot of things for Destiny 2 i'm outta here, after probably a 1000 hours so far in D1. It would be such a shame. Please put casual and ranked playlists. Remove SBMM. We want DEDICATED servers. Increase the 10 tick rate in pvp. Make communication in-game easier. Easier matchmaking for the different activities, so that we don't have to use LFG sites to find someone to play with. Everywhere i look people talk about these things. Are you people deaf, dumb and blind altogether?????

PVP in Destiny is fine and Bungie is quite capable of maintaining it on their own without having to steal ideas from another game and the recommendation that they should is pretty insulting. I understand that you currently have more fun playing another game and thankfully you have the right to do so. If you enjoy Destiny enough then it will stay in your rotation and if it does not then that is fine too. There are plenty of games I have loved that I no longer play.
