Anyone miss not having to install games on consoles?

I get it, bigger games, better hardware, but seriously, MOH warfighter looked amazing on legacy consoles, could pull those graphics off with no installation and had a decent amount of content.

  • I didn't like it but now that I own a lot digitally I like the seamless switching between titles

  • I understand it given today's games are well in excess of 50 gb compared to the ~8 gb discs of early last gen, but I still don't like it. Even on the Wii-U it's a hassle to play online when you need to download a 30-60 minute update almost weekly. The Xbox One and PS4 make you wait hours or even days, that's on a connection in a Capital City. At least before you had a choice between owning a physical or a digital copy, now there's no point to owning the former.

  • I hate having to install games now. That's why I just straight up download it online, no point in having a disc anymore.

      • Hell no. Cartridges were okay but when CDs started becoming popular it was a bear. Load times sucked on them and disk swapping sucked even more. Especially as a long time PC gamer I've never had a problem with waiting a few minutes before playing. Doing a one time install while I go make a sandwich or watch TV is much less of a headache. And with ssds becoming as cheap as they are it's definitely worth it for the load times. And today it's even better with preloading and installers loading only the essential files from disk so you can start playing right away. I see no real advantage to games running from a disk. Maybe if SD cartridges take off that could be cool again though.

        • I got pretty frustrated when I first got my Xb1. My ~80gb 360 is only like 10% full after about 30 games, but with my 500gb One I'm almost full after 6 games. I don't want to redownload everything if I want to play it again. Although, isn't everything on the new gens on cloud? I feel like that's the only advantage. I wish there was a choice.

        • It sucks that I have to wait up to an hour to play a game. But ideally I would want to go fully digital and not have to worry about discs.

        • I've been buying most of my games digitally and with a decent internet connection it hasn't been a problem with me. The only issue I had at first was space, so I bought an external and hooked it up to the XOne, at the point there are no cons to me for having the forced install. While the game is installing just go do something else for a little bit.

                  • I don't care. I get my games digitally and I don't mind waiting an hour or 2 when I've waited a few months for a release.

                    • The only thing I dislike about having to install stuff is the amount of time it takes to do it. But, that's my crappy ISP's fault. Not my XBOX's. It's also a lot more convenient to not have to fool around with discs and stuff. Plus, as a parent of a small child it's really nice to not have to worry about them getting scratched or lost.

                      • Yeah it sucks but honestly with work I can usually be organised and have it ready for when I get home. Even if it doesn't work out like that and I have to wait when I'm home. I do abit of house work then it's ready. Oh the joys of being an adult 😂

                        • Don't buy digital, buy physical. When asked to update game with the disc in, update it later. The installation will go so much faster because it's coming off the disc. If you update it, it'll take a long time because now it's downloading
