Another Thursday, another load of BS...

Do they honestly believe that nobody actually checks the location of the people they connect with? My connections map: https://i.imgur.com/XnhVxER.png After reading the wonderful info in the TWAB, I was excited to see where my "best connections" really are on the map. The first person added to my match? 3,762mi away from me in Belgium. It took the game approx 2 seconds to determine this was a great connection for me. I could understand if the game just happened to ping this guy and check his connection to me. No, he hung in there through the 2/12, 5/12, 8/12,... all the way to the end of matchmaking/start of the match. Also note, they decided to add Brazil to the match (4,499mi away from me). I live in NY, USA and the highest quality connections with me include players 3,762mi and 4,499mi away from me on different continents? CB/SBMM debates aside,... seriously??? Bungie 11/17/16: "Connection quality is always the highest priority factor in Destiny matchmaking" 👍👍
Edit: This wasn't a post crying about having a bad match. I finished the match fine with the aid of some "lag strategies". I posted it to show that everything isn't working the way they tell us, and also to inform them with a visual aid (as if they weren't already aware) that their system isn't working as intended. In this match I was able to adjust and keep my distance from the few "laggy" players. My bigger concern is, what about the outliers in this match? The Belgian and Brazilian players? Could they "adjust" to 10-11 laggy players? They could have easily been any one of us in a random match. The reality is that I was most likely one of the Belgian players better connections. What was this match like for him, or the Brazilian player? Im sure there's a much bigger picture to all of this than we can comprehend. Add in a pre-made fireteam spanning the globe and finding a great, crisp, and local match for each of them becomes nearly impossible. I just hate to read something stating "connection quality... highest priority" and then jump into a game as a solo player and find my first "quality connection" match within 2 seconds, is a solo player nearly 4K miles from me on another continent with a ping that was at best 200+ms during the match (at times reaching 400-600). Many of us really do love this game and would just prefer honesty to what we've been reading lately. I know many people would love to read an update stating "Hey guys, here's the reality... Due to design, logistics, and the code this game was built upon, were at a loss in making noticeable improvements to your experience. Please stay with us as we roll out multiple updates over the next few weeks as we search for something better". Oh well, whatever... here's to hoping for a fix that works as well as a BS free update.
This is a similar picture to my friends netduma match making picture. We are from the uk, he has it locked at a few hundred miles so it cannot match them and always manages to find us fast matches from people in the uk. Yet these people miles and miles, mostly the other side of the world are always what it try's to give us. Whatever they claim they search for in match making, it sucks! Personally I think they are full of shit! They've lied plenty in the past, denied making changes then admitted it when they've been caught out.

No offense to the poster.
Bungie a lot of people aren't happy with the state of the game right now. Fix please
• Notice in the TWAB where it states that they found a "bug" within the match making yesterday... Like really....... How often do you check your system. . Stop lieing Bungie, it's getting rather old.

          • I am at my limit with Destiny now. I had hoped to see some progress this week, but I should have known what to expect after the last three years. I have ordered BF1, time to move on.

They need to use a smaller window when they are initially defining acceptable connections. There is no way a connection from New York to Eastern Europe should be considered as acceptable as a connection to someone else in NY. (was there really no one else matchmaking in the state the same time as you?)

Why do they think it's OK to lie to us? I'm stunned I laughed at there entire post especially the part about being put against players in trails with the same score card that's an obvious lie!

                  • Here is the intentionally misleading statement:
Connection quality is always the highest priority factor in Destiny Matchmaking. It's the first criteria for the search, and the last value we’re willing to compromise to set the match.
It is not true that connection compromise coming last in the list means that good connections are the highest priority. In fact, it's the exact opposite. Consider the matchmaking steps they describe to us: 1) First, we identify a pool of available players with a good connection to you 2) Within that pool, we choose players closely matched to your personal skill rating 3) If we can’t find players within that pool, we widen the variance in skill 4) If THAT doesn’t work, we expand the search again with more variance in connection quality What they are telling us here is that after a one-time (and possibly quite small) expansion of the allowed skill range in step 3, they will then degrade connection quality as much as is needed to fill the lobby in step 4. In other words, the absolute most important thing is that the skill disparity in the lobby not expand beyond what is allowed in 3, and connection can go to complete shit to make that happen. There's any easy fix here: Just swap steps 3 and 4, and only allow a slight degradation in connection when compromising in the new step 3. Whatever comes last in the list is the value that gets compromised most because it is the value that is degraded as far as is needed to fill the lobby. We want that arbitrarily degradable value to be lobby skill range, not lobby connection quality. Don't lie to us that good connections are your highest priority in matchmaking when clearly lobby skill disparity is the value you're protecting.

                    • I have this feeling as soon as bungie fixes this , people will complain about it being completely worse than before . Honestly if your playing to chill , do pve, pvp is meant to be a competition . If people don't like competition then don't play it . On the other hand , I rarely find lag so horrible that I notice it , so maybe my opinion is invalid . ...just food for thought I guess

                          • All I know is this: Whether IB or normal PVP, I'm constantly thrusted into losing matches over halfway done and with a very slim chance everyone gets their crap together to pull it through. Or It's me with a bunch of half sober, half awake, half wits versus Team "Trying to Sweat Our Neck Beards Off" Force Or It's me teamed up with, "An Objective Says What?", fireteam against, "Hey Bill! Lookit the purty mouths on them Guardians." And on and on and on. And this includes coming into a match already lost and I get goose eggs across without taking a single step.

                            • You should equate it to your internet provider the day of your initial setup . Their matchmaking system where the initial connection preference is involved is equivalent to the service worker knocking on your door while your in the shower. After 1 soft knock, no answer; he's onto something else. That's how it appears to me.
