What's the point of deeming weapons "Exotic" anymore Bungie?

Iv'e been wanting to make a post about this for some time but haven't gotten around to it. It's obvious why armor pieces are exotic and should be for good reason. Guns such as Suros Regime, Hawkmoon, Hardlight, and a few other primaries right now just don't feel exotic... even Thorn. Why even bother using a Hawkmoon now when Eyasluna and Palindrome just outperform it in every aspect?Why use an Auto-Rifle when a high RoF pulse rifle is basically that but better, or a Doctrin? Basically we should just go ahead and remove some guns from the Exotic pool and drop them down to Legendaries or give them Life of the Exotic, because of they've been neutered. I don't know if it's the nerfherd who should be blamed for this nonsense, or Bungie for caving in and actually nerfing the primaries because someone most likely got outplayed but blamed the primary for being "Too OP".

    Most exotics are a waste now they are to worried about making them to strong blah blah I miss having to decide if I wanted to use ice breaker, gally or truth in PvE in the ttk I barely used any exotic weapons. Just like I miss trying to figure out what raid primary to use and nightfalls were fun since the burn would make you switch up your primaries ahh year1 I miss you.

    • Exotic weapons are not exotic any more. If you think about it a weapon's job is to deliver a projectile to a target....preferable in his face. Exotics have been nerfed so bad in an attempt to balance their exotic perk with their ability to deliver a bullet consistently to the face that they not used more than a legendary. A legendary just delivers a bullet period and usually better then an exotic because it has no exotic perk to balance against. I think that bungie had over estimated the communities desire for an exotic perk vs the guns ability to hit a target consistently with good damage.

      We need mint gear , or new color gear . why the raid gear purple? Heck pink power ranger color be cool for raid also, stupid it purple. also need a way to hold 2 exotic gear at once now, been how many years?> and not the bands , were the ghost golds at ? or buried in pay to pay version.

      • This will never be fixed. Bungie tried to take a progression focused, loot based shooter and tied pvp into it. Loot based game= player wants to advance their character and make them more powerful. (i.e. Diablo, Borderlands) Competitive FPS= player wants Balance where outcomes are decided by skill and your ability to use loadout. I don't like the whining on these forums. Too often the cries for "balance" were really "bungie I don't like this gun and won't try to figure out a way to combat it. Nerf!!!" This community craps all over the No Land Beyond. Yet Thorn, Hawkmoon, Suros. Not one of them, at their peak, had the killing ability of the NLB. But NLB requires skill to properly use. That being said, constant balancing is par for the course in FPS multiplayer. Because Bungie tied pve and pvp loot together, the result is that weapons become unattractive in pve and exotics never feel worth it. I hope D2 is different. Maybe separate gear tables is the answer.

        Blame the crybabies, which is also AT LEAST half this forum thats crying for a buff. This community brought this on itself. Live with. Deal with it. Don't get me wrong I'd also like a buff but I'm saying this is what we get for crying so much.

      • They never said exotics were to out perform legendaries. Exotics are just meant to have a unique attribute or perk. Why does no one get this?

        • The harsh reality is people cry. Notice how it's only primaries that are not feeling exotic, and primaries are usually the only thing that get nerfed frequently. Remember when vex use to outclass EVERYTHING. Then people cried and it was nerfed, then the necrochasm and BOOM fast firing autos had a 25% drop in damage. It's all because people flood towards the common meta with the idea "can't beat em, join em". Rather than finding a way to counter the meta causing that class of weaponry to be nerfed. A prime example of this now is your example, the hawkmoon isn't that great right now. But the palindrome is godly. And sooner or later hand cannons will get a nerf and the hawkmoon will be worse. It's a harsh reality but no matter what you say, it's a true reality.

          • I agree it seems as the years go by exotics get worse old exotics don't feel exotic anymore and new exotics don't feel like exotics at all For example the newest raid weapon isn't as good as my bad juju

            I agree completely, some legendary primaries are just too good when they have a nice roll, because of how exotics work, you're limited to the perks and sights on that weapon, for example, Palindrome can have rangefinder, or firefly or luck in the chamber or other great perks, and it can have the best handcannon sight, but Hawkmoon has a better luck in the chamber, but it can't have firefly aswell or rangefinder aswell, it can't have Sureshot IS as it's sight, the 3-4 great perks on legendary primaries just outweigh the one amazing perk an exotic has. Even if it's a weapon like Suros Regime which which is one of the best high impact autos with amazing perks like focused fire, smart drift and hammer forged, it's not any better than another legendary with the same perks because the legendary isn't stuck with an improved version of glass half full which is not an amazing perk and it can have counterbalance or hidden hand instead, and even worse, both of these guns are outperformed by just using grasp or hawksaw or blind perdition, which are just better in every way, the high rate of fire pulses are just too strong for any exotic to warrant using, only outbreak prime can really compete because it's also a high rate of fire pulse.

          • I was just thinking the same thing the other day, expect for the swords, all other exotic weapons are just plain rubbish compared to all the God roll legendary weapons at our disposal. It wasn't like that until TTK came out. All these buffs/nerfs/buffs/nerfs have made 99% of the exotic weapons just a waste of time.

          • God I hope they don't take this the wrong way and nerf regular legendaries. They need to buff certain exotics, not nerf absolutely everything else.

                Back then, I wanted to grind for the chance to gain the weapons that stood out, the exotics everyone wanted. Now, I couldn't care less about what exotic or legendary just dropped for me. I don't mean to sound like a Y1 elitist, but the Y2/Y3 players will never know the feeling of finally seeing Gjallarhorn drop after a raid. Now there aren't any exotics that stand out. You don't see people on the forums saying "Oh I hope this weapon drops. I've heard it's amazing" because honestly, most weapons are mediocre now. Sure there's some decent ones, but they'll never compare to Y1.

                  Because they keep nerfing and buffing weapons, if they'd just leave them alone PvE wise we'd be fine, but the whiny little children players cry about a weapon/ability in PvP and.. click.. NERF'D, I can't believe they nerf'd Thorn to where it is now. Utterly pathetic, I would not consider [i]Thorn[/i] to be remotely close to exotic material anymore, same goes for [i]Red Death[/i], one of my favorite exotics that they also nerf'd the hell out of, to the point that it just feels like a legendary with a descent ability. Don't even get me started on the unacceptable recoil they decided to add to the [i]Hawkmoon[/i] as well as nerf [b]Holding Aces[/b]. The [i]Universal Remote[/i] should be secondary or demoted to Legendary status, [i]Hard Light[/i] is just illogical as it shoots ELECTRIC rounds but not Arc burn and also has an okay ability, not very damaging though. [i]SUROS Regime[/i] just doesn't give you quite that satisfaction as it did back when Xur sold it the very first time. The [i]MIDA Multi-Tool[/i] is just.. well why is it an exotic? [i]Patience and Time[/i] needs a little more beef like maybe add an additional useful ability alongside the 'invisible while aiming' perk'. The [i]Plan C[/i]'s ability is just laughable but very awesome looking weapon. [i]Black Spindle[/i] is just a copycat of the almighty [b]Black Hammer[/b] (best before [b]White Nail[/b] nerf) and 3 rounds return to mag from reserve isn't an ability worth taking up an exotic slot for especially considering that now [b]Devil's Dawn[/b] is far superior with only a 3 round mag as well, I could do without [b]White Nail[/b], it'd be nice on a legendary but like I said not worth being the highlight exotic perk. [i]Outbreak Prime[/i] I just worked my ass off for, and the SIVA Swarm does only around 300 extra points worth of damage, you're lucky if you get the default SIVA Swarm and precision kill SIVA Swarm to activate at the same time although it does exceptional damage when used on a tethered/melting pointed enemy, but I'd much rather have [b]Firefly[/b] than the precision kill SIVA nanite swarm, I think they should add a selectable Firefly option that replaces precision kill SIVA Swarm, so the [i]Outbreak Prime[/i] is just a good Pulse Rifle with great range and RoF. [i]Touch of Malice[/i] is absolutely useless outside of [b]King's Fall[/b] Now.. here's a MAJOR PET PEVE OF MINE; WHY?! Why would you deem a handful of exotics useless due to the release of new DLC, yes I'm talking about [i]Icebreaker[/i], [i]Pocket Infinity[/i] as well as [i]Thorn[/i] and [i]Gjallarhorn[/i] after TTK released, I've NEVER heard of a game before Destiny that deems old gear/weapons or content useless just because a new DLC drops, it's so stupid, you know how much more people would be invested in this game if everything they rightfully paid for was updated and accessible again? Yeah think about that for a minute Bungie!

                    • If I remember correctly Bungie once said that exotics not necessarily are better then other legendary weapons, they just feel different, hence the word Exotic.
