I have been suffering from minor depression since August all because of the news, I'll give you an example of what I looked at.
Politics
Syria
Worse of all...
World War III
One day it became too much to the point I had to go talk to my school counselor about it. My counselor was a military veteran, he is a very cheerful guy and he told me that he hasn't watched the news in 20 years, which he said it made him a happier man. This guy doesn't seem to not stop smiling, I'm not even lying.
Yah, I know we are going through a lot of world conflict right now, like a lot, especially in Syria, and once I started looking at the news I was scared. I couldn't say it to anyone because they might think I'm stupid. What's even worse is the whole World War III thing, the news tells us (especially UK ones) it's going to happen. yah US and Russia can't get along , but that doesn't mean we will nuke each other, we are just going to have A LOT of disagreements on how to deal with Russia (though it's basically Obamas fault). I'm going to be honest, I am scared of Death though I know regardless we will die of old age, etc.
My friend basically had to calm me down 2 times, using knowledge to his advantage such as how Vietnam ruined the media, and how he is more scared of the clown thing then the Russians. Which made me feel better in some way. I decided to have a talk with my brother currently stationed in Texas about this, he told me "it's quiet in the office, like always, so nothing is really happening right now" which made me think I had better things to worry about then something the news say will happen. Though I am still somewhat depressed, I cannot get it out of my head, I have to think about my future and what career I want to pursue. I decided to post this here in the forums because for some reason you guys are actually realistic in some way and we can agree on some things. At the moment, I am still recovering, trying to find out how to deal with this, but not reading the news is the best way to go.
EDIT: don't take this too seriously, is not shutting my self out of the public forever, just until I get my head straight, and I don't care about the politics and crap, but the WW3 thing scared me to death, though I know no country is stupid enough to start it, my head still tells me I should be scared, though over nothing
EDIT (again): I'll be leaving B.net for a while, basically until I recover, I have an appointment with a therapist this Saturday... goodbye everyone

The debate tonight hurt so bad

1 ReplyIt's not news anymore. It's a marketed product. Fear is the marketing tool. Bought and paid for.

Watches News: Arghhh this makes me so angry, I'm going to the Bungie forums to cry about it! (thinks to self) "Why am I so angry all the time?" Watches News: Ahhhhhgh these people are getting on my nerves.. See the forming pattern?

5 RepliesSon. When I was in the military, we was specifically told to follow the news. WWIII is coming. That's a given. I think it's just a case of how much BS the world will take from Russia before shit gets serious. I mean - Bunker bombing hospitals? Disgusting.
-
True, but sometimes I just need to have a thought in my head for like a month.

1 ReplyNever did watch the news So if I want to be UNhappier should I watch the news?

1 ReplyIf you're telling me not read news, you're telling me to get off these fourms

1 ReplyThe news preys on the fear of the public. The goal is to raise your level of concern so you will stay tuned to keep up to date. Unfortunately, when it comes to war, we are completely at the hands of our national leaders that we "elected." Nothing you can do unless you're Rick Grimes or Rambo. Only relevant news is traffic and if there is a psychopathic mass murderer loose in you're neighborhood. So yes, ignorance is bliss.

5 RepliesEdited by Night Hawk: 10/5/2016 8:28:28 PMI suffer from quite a bit of paranoia. So much so that i am now a prepper. I feel that no matter how this election goes, there will be a war. Trump scares me, Hillary scares me even more, so I now have a years worth of food, 3 months of water, and a bug/o location.

I don't watch the news. Too much unnecessary stress. I'm just gonna' move somewhere relatively peaceful and quiet, away from any major cities, and live out my generally pleasant life away from the mayhem that is politics, the media, and the general public.

1 ReplyMy advice is unplug for a while. Everyone needs it every once in a while.

1 ReplyIf it was mostly factual, I'd be more tolerant. But the way the media spins things is outright -blam!-ed.

I too have become increasingly disillusioned with the world since I decided to be more proactive and participate in it. Once I took a look at the world around me, I started seeing just how ugly it is, how ugly we humans are, and I've started feeling more and more hopeless about making it a good place.

I just joke around about that kind of stuff with my friends, it helps calm me down

1 ReplyDon't take everything seriously on the news. Trust me, I've been there. I've had fears like you about terrible things happening. But in reality, the news tends to go over the top nowadays. Notice how there are more and more "news" topics about blacks being shot? Things like that have happened in the past before, but weren't really hot topics yet. People all over the globe get shot or attacked, but now that people literally get in a jimmy over that, more articles of that have been popping up. Even though it has happened plenty before. It's just the news in general right now isn't exactly trustworthy. Take for example pit bulls, of all things. A dog bites a girl that was teasing the dog with a toy or a treat. The dog bite hurts the girl, but it's not severe. News would see it as "Vicious Pit Bull Puts Girl In Hospital". Even if the dog wasn't a pit bull, the news would say it was to get more attention. Tldr; take the news with a grain of salt. Don't let it control your life. Be happy with your current life, whatever it may be.
how to deal with Russia
Kek. We don't need to deal with Russia. We need to deal with the warmongers in Washington.

I've been cable TV free and as free of the online "news" as I can be for a few years. My overall happiness is much improved. These days it seems like it's all bad news and opinion pieces instead of some good stuff in the community. Even "fact checking" really isn't because the journalists are so self important and insert their politics in everything.
-
Usally the news is slow to go on TV, couple days ago saw the video of the fish going over the net on 9gag, few days later, "new story" and the story about the girls watch being stolen by a little girl in thailand, saw the original thing almost 2weeks ago, saw it on news 3 days ago

Yea alot of the shit i see on the news i could be better off not knowing about FOR EG. Going out to *insert town name* Watches news while getting ready sees "random killer on the loose in *same town name*" Probably could've had a wonderfull night if i didn't watch the news BUT remember ALOT of the news is dodgy reporting, they find simple shit and blow it outof proportion AND i wouldn't trust mainstream journalists 98% of the time, there facts are wrong.
-
I don't watch the news anyway....
-
The trick is to not take anything too seriously, and you'll be much happier. Just live, and forget the negativity. To hell with the election, just imagine it's not happening and you won't even notice.
-
I feel ya man. Although I'm not as scared of death. I've spent quite a lot of time being paranoid, and at this point I'm less scared of death, and more scared of pain. Because I know that if I die, I'll live on in the afterlife because it's what I believe. I can die, and only a few people are affected. It's the sad truth. I haven't read the news in a while.
