Let’s talk about Trials.
Now after looking over the forums there seems to be a lot of salt in regards to ToO, and how it’s handled. Some people are suggesting "Playlist Lock Outs", you run you’re 3 games that week and your done. This of course of absurd, people paid for the game, they should be able to play it with their friends. Streams seem to gain popularity by carrying viewers, and people just like elimination. Other still have suggested once you, run flawless you are relegated to a Flawless only playlist, but this, again does not fix the underlining issue with ToO.
Many of you would be surprised to know the apparent algorithm according to Bungie for ToO is not based off your skill as a player or even your aggregate skill as a team. It’s not SBMM, or even connection. A couple of games in ToO make this apparent, lag, cheating, and very one sided matches seem to run rampant one moment you’ll 5-0 a team that you had no right playing against, and the next you’ll get 5-0ed against a team that had no right playing against you. The algorithm is based off you’re your ToO card Win’s. This is RNG in a playlist that should be about skill, not RNG.
This is ludicrous, for a vast number of reason, including but not limited to; people who have already been flawless playing again, against weaker opponents. Players who wish to boost their Trials Win stats so they play the first 5 games on a card, scrap it get another and play again. And one sided matches. The list really does go on and on and on.
The simple solution, a rank the Trials Play List.
I’m going to give a dumbed down overview of how this should work.
Your ranking is 1-50. This is displayed on your Emblem next to your light and level, if you’re rank 25 for example, the game does everything in its power to find other 25’s. If it cannot find other 25’s then it slowly opens the skill gap in both directions. So 24-26, then if it till has trouble, it keeps moving it till it’s able to find a proper match, connection of course being a high priority. For anyone keeping track this is how bungie handled Halo 3’s ranking.
The only problem, I see with matching people based on a ranking system, is the top 1% of players will play one another, opening up the lighthouse for more of the community. Which when you think about it isn't really a problem.
EDIT: It should be noted that the point of showing Rank in ToO, is less to denote elitism which, yes it will create, and more to hold bungie to account, with a number we can see at a glance how well the system is working, and hold them to account if it doe not work. Will there be exploration? Like there was in Halo 3, yes but under Bungies guidelines that is cheating, and should be handled accordingly.

Why do you care who goes flawless?
-
I agree. Made a post a few months ago saying there needs to be a skill ranking system.
-
1 ReplySo in other words I would just play against account recoveries... wait I already do that. No thanks.
-
1 ReplyTrials is OK the way it is.

The funny thing is that most sweaty players wouldnt want this because it would make it harder for them to go flawless. Yet they want to talk about how skilled they are when they are constantly playing teams who could never hope to beat them. I'd like to see them handle some real competition at their own skill level and then talk about how great they are.
-
Never been flawless, and don't want it to be easier.
-
Considering I have seen 1.0 k/d's (the "average" player) with 100+ flawless runs, there is no need to change trials. Practice in regular crucible, then do trials.
-
1 ReplyIf you're good at the game, it should be easy. Simple as that. If you're not. Practice.
-
3 RepliesI told Cozmo about this. He said he will bring this to the Crucible team.

The Lighthouse is not open to the community, the community is made up of 1.0 k/ds, Bungie has said this. They've also said this was their intention, if you've been to the Lighthouse, count your blessings. I won't even attempt it until it is fixed, I play video games for fun and ToO is not fun.
-
Ironically, if I wanted to face constant sweaty opponents I would head into regular crucible, thanks sbmm !! I vote no for locking our players after flawless and Sbmm in trials too
-
How about they just balance this game halo style for trials and trials alone. Then people can actually boast about skill. Skill in destiny is pretty much determined by rng lmao you either have the right drops or you don't.
-
Actually unless they've changed it...I just got back from a 2 month hiatus. Your card had very little to do with it. I was with some friends who were checking trials tracker against our opponents. At 4 wins we were facing 3 win teams. At 8 wins we faced a 4 win team. So while your card may be a contributing factor it is a very minor factor. Though personally I think it should be the only factor besides luck on who you get paired against that has the same +/-1 wins as you. Just my opinion though. Also I disagree lighthouse players should be put in thier own bracket or locked out. That's like telling last year's winner of the superbowl that none of them can play in the NFL any more. They have to go compete in this other league now.
-
2 RepliesThe only argument I can see against this is people losing on purpose so they can then get to the lighthouse easily.
-
So you're gonna separate the rewards into tiers based on rank? Or someone who beats level 50 players for the lighthouse only gets the same rewards as someone who only had to beat level 1 players? Cuz I mean.. that's real fair.
-
Then people would just lower their stats when they are actually good.
-
Lol another one

8 RepliesHahaha yet another thread trying to create a cheese for the Lighthouse.

I wholeheartedly agree. I have very very poor Trials stats because I played trials a lot back when I wasn't focused on PvP in year 1/early year 2. As I didn't play PvP and only really did trials for PvP, I didn't have any practice and pretty much got my ass kicked every time. Therefore, my trials k/d and elo and what ever else is really poor. However, I've focused a lot more on PvP in year 2 and now and consider myself average. Some times I am unplayable and whoop everyones ass, sometimes I'll get my ass absolutely handed to me. My problem is consistency but that I can deal with. So, as I've got better at PvP and me and my friend have found a regular third player who's also pretty good, I would say I should now be able to go flawless. However, as soon as you get to 5 wins, you come across the sweatiest top 1% and it is just ridiculous. This week was the first week that us as a three have played trials together (third player took a massive break from Destiny in Y2 and bought Rise of Iron at 312 light lololol) but we did really well, even though that map was horrendously unbalanced. I hope next week we will be able to go flawless and yes, I agree that Trials should be based on skill not how far along you are on your card. Tl;dr: I was bad, now I'm above average, should be going flawless but come across top 1% in final rounds.
-
1 ReplyThat would make sense if trials was a competitive playlist. But it isn't.
-
Trials should be 4v4, make it a lot more competitive. What is the point of a heavy ammo round? Never understood that in this game made.
-
2 RepliesThe skill matchmaking thing never bothered me. What I'm annoyed with is RNG making me wait to reach a high light level. But it eagerly puts me up against opponents with higher light level. It's to the point where I'll have them dead to rights.. but they can survive all of my attacks simply because of their light level.
-
You're right...
-
5 RepliesI am a top 1% player, and I would hate only b playing other 50s it would suck so much.
-
Keep trials as it is
