Can we talk about silver dust?
Bungie got micro transactions perfect for the April update, granted I'd rather not have them at all but how they handled them was great. You could get 3 boxes a week. I manged to get full taken and spectacular gear plus both ships and sparrow in just a month and a half using free boxes.
Fast forward to now, we get one box a week. Containing one ornament and one silver dust, that's fine and dandy. It'll just take some time to get the ornaments I want.
Silver dust doesn't just stop there though, your iron lord, trials and raid armor both require silver dust to apply ornaments. 25 to be exact.
So yeah, if you don't dismantle your ornament you receive you'll be waiting 25 weeks to unlock the best looking armor in the game, for one character, for one set. Across all 3 characters there are 9 sets, each requiring 25 silver dust. That's 225 weeks. Or like 4 and a half years.
Even if you dismantled ever ornament you got and put it towards your armor it would take around 10 months to do all the ornaments on all characters. And you would have 0 weapon ornaments.
Well it's just cosmetic right? Sure, have fun walking around in rags while people are walking around looking like badass flaming wolf's.
I also forgot to mention that you need 6 iron lord ornaments in addition to the 25 dust. Currently the only known way to get them is to pray to rng that the one box you get a week has one in it. Which is unlikely considering it's not a guaranteed item.
They seriously went to far this time.

I think it's kind of funny how much Bungie hyped up weapon and armor ornaments before release. Yet they decided not to mention how strongly ornaments would be tied to micro transactions.
Also I'm not bashing micro - transactions, I'm bashing how they were implemented.

Sure, now it's just cosmetic, just wait and see where it goes next. Something people don't seem to relize is that the packages the sold after the April update contained gear with randomized rolls. Meaning you could buy boxes until you got the perfect perks on your gear.
FYI, that's not just cosmetic. That's giving actually a fairly significant advantage. Not to mention the rep boosters they are selling now.
More rep = more gear = faster level up/ higher chance to get better weapons/ armor.[/b]

3 RepliesI said the exact same thing. The fact that you can only get ONE radiant treasure a week and only one Silver Dust is bullshit. They didn't even make it so you could buy ornaments from Xur with Strange Coins. Instead they make it so idiots actually have to spent money on them.

1 ReplyThey want you to buy it, just suck it up and buy it because they aren't changing it. They knew exactly what they were doing with this one. But the news an't all bad, I think some of the pieces, not many of them, but some, look better without the ornaments.

I bet you $20 they are letting people blow tons of money on silver to buy radiant treasure only to get lots of duplicates... Then later they will patch it and say "we have increased the number of radiant treasures that are able to be acquired per week. And increased the chances of getting ornaments that you haven't already received"

I suppose that's it though, it's exactly why they've made it so scarce, to make you impatient and purchase radiant treasures, I suppose we should count our blessings they've at least made it possible to collect in game

i really couldn't give a shite what my guns and armour look like.... i don't kill someone in pvp and think yer they looked good. i don't look at the weapons i have and think, you know what, this gun needs some bling.. nar -blam!- all that.

It wouldn't be so bad if Xur a) sold ornaments for coins instead of silver dust, and b) sold silver dust for coins as well. I've only opened a handful of boxes so far (using silver I had left over from last year) and a lot of my ornaments were duplicates. I have enough dust to last a while, but I can see how big a shortage there would be for most players. If they took the randomness out of the packages, guaranteeing ornaments you don't currently have, that would be a great step. It would also be nice if they made it possible to receive dust from faction rank up packages also.

3 RepliesMy other problem with this is the randomness with micro transactions. I don't like wasting real money trying to get something I want and getting something I already have. The Radiant Treasures you get in game are fine if they are random, but if I'm paying my own money, I don't want to rely on RNG.

Will Bungie respond to threads that matter? Probably not. Cozmo leaves one two word response on a pointless post once a week and that's it for our "community managers"

What's frustrating, is that I purchased some boxes thinking "ok, if I don't get the ornaments I want at least I'll get silver dust to trade in for the ones I do want (Invective storms reproach is amazing)." I end up getting 7 duplicates. So, I have plenty of dust set aside. Xur comes, I'm excited to exchange for the ornaments I want, and what do I see? Twenty--blam!-ing-five silver dust per ornament!? Now I know why it's called silver dust, they take the money we blow on silver, and crush it down into a fine dust...most likely used as a garnish of some kind. Needless to say, I am frustrated. I actually spend money on silver in a semi-regular fashion. I was incredibly excited about these new ornaments, but now....not so much. I can definitely say I won't be spending more money on the boxes, simply because all you do is get duplicates of ornaments you have and it would take close to 25 boxes (that's 5000 silver) to have enough silver dust to buy ONE ornament. They just need to add more ways to earn silver dust. Right now it will take almost 6 months to activate all the ornaments on one set of Iron armor, unless you buy it. I've spent enough money on the game that I shouldn't have to buy things in the game. I don't mind buying emotes, I pick what I want and buy it, and it's absolutely cosmetic. But, to buy a treasure that may or may not contain what I'm looking for is absurd. You could endlessly spend money trying to get a certain ornament and never get it. If there was an ornament store that you could buy the ornament you wanted and more ways to earn silver dust I wouldn't really complain. You buy the game, you know what you're buying. You buy an emote, you know what you're buying. But, with treasures, they've created a money pit and it's wrong.

Just get rid of sterling and let us obtain radiant treasures 3 times a week, that would be slightly fairer, at the moment its just a scumy system

3 RepliesThe thing is... The people who are whiny about "entitlement"... Have no idea what the word means. By and large, I want /every/ weapon and armor to have ornaments. And I want all the ornaments to be /good/. Which most of them are not.And I want to be able to just go into the eververse store and buy them, no matter what Bungie charges... 2 dollars. 5 dollars. 10 dollars. What ever. What is turning me, and I presume most other people off, is the fact that I am being forced to use some kind of RNG thing, which I'm willing to bet is biased... To hope I get what I'm looking for... Which I'm really not okay with... Here... Let me swallow my pride. And ask. Of you out there who have bought more than 10 treasure boxes...... Baring in mind that there are 22 available. And how unlikely it would be that a random generator would spit out the same item repeatedly in proximity... How many of you are getting the same items over and over? And over and over and over? (I had a lot of silver in my wallet, I wasn't using it on animations, so I bout a few of them) I kept getting lingering vestiage and queens what ever, for telesto...I would have to do the exact numbers, but a minimum of 50% were for the same weapon.... If you put 22 pingpong balls into a bag, and keep pulling out the same 2 at a 50% ratio, something is off.

I think my ideal way to do microtransactions would be 3 boxes a week like in the April update and each box is guaranteed to have silver dust. I think that's how it should be done

Most people seem to agree. I've heard you'll be able to get more in the raid and if that's true I think we'll be okay but as of right now we need more ways to obtain it
