I think the objective with this game type was to culminate everything wrong with pvp in one place. Good job Bungo, you succeeded.
Better yet, I have no choice but to play said gametype to finish my crucible missions. Wonderful.
I have been in about 5 - 10 winning matches out of 40 - 50 matches. The pace is too fast for the team size. After an enemy team establishes a lead it is difficult to match their score and move into the lead. The experience reminds of the the runaway scoring in Salvage.
One Supremacy match I was in last night was 4v4 for most of the duration. It felt a lot more balanced, rather than simply run and gun with shotguns. The reduced pace allows you to capture crests from your own kills.
Supremacy is the worst game mode to ever happen to Destiny. Half the time I'll get a kill, a teammate will steal my crests and let me die to another enemy.
I don't think it's always one sided. Sometimes it can be. I must have played about 15-20 matches yesterday and my book has only logged 4 wins if that tells you anything about the win rates.
The game mode requires teamwork and communication. That being said, to me, it also requires the most cheap of tactics.
Nearly every match goes as follows: match begins. Both teams have their first clash. Whichever team gets the most crests will then group up and fortify a position. Usually a small building with all areas covered. They go off radar and whip out shotguns just waiting for you to charge in. Now, trailing teams can get the odd kill but chances are you'll get denied because there's just too many campers and when you're playing with randoms, there's no communication. Your only hope at that point is to pop a few supers and hope you can clear their spot out so you can steal it/keep them out in the open so you can try to take the lead. It's basically trench warfare in Destiny form. Boring and slow until someone loses their mind and hopelessly charges the enemy. No joke, this is literally every match I played. Plus you can't win without a shotgun. I abhor constant shotty usage. They make the game boring. Plus, due to the concept of crests, many times you'll find yourself losing by one or two. It's just the nature of the game. Just one stupid move by a teammate can literally cost you a win.
I know I seem biased. I don't believe it's due to lack of skill, I maintain an average positive k/d. Most often pulling second highest, if not highest on my team in all supremacy I played. There's no carrying in this match type. Half the time, I had the only positive k/d. I remember once getting mercy ruled on one of the Mars maps 90-30 having scored half of my team's 30 points by myself. I finished that match with a 1.5 k/d. I'm pretty sure the next highest was a .56 or something. The problem I find is that people just don't get the concept of team based objective gameplay. They still wanna Rambo it up and even if one person does that, it will now cost your team the match. Going Rambo is a no no in supremacy.
Supremacy is built for fireteams, camping, secondary weapons, AoE supers, shoulder charges, and tracking grenades.
Once I finish my book and suffer the coming Iron Banner, I will most likely never touch supremacy again. Not my cup of tea. I think I'll stick to control if I want objectives. To each their own. I'm glad many people like it. It's fresh, it's different, but I hate it lol
I'd like to see a friendly fire option on this. The Douche bag that half way through a match that has a 15 crest pick ups and 3 kill credits gets friendly fire turned on so I can shot gun his face for the rest of the match.
I played for 2 hours straight today and only won one game. I was playing solo and left every lobby after we lost. Sometimes I came out on top, sometimes I didn't. Basically it didn't matter how I played because we'd still lose by 30 points.
Supremacy is all rumble right now. Strategies SHOULD change with team-based supremacy matches because your team can still score even without you having to go in, so as long as your team has people willing to rush in for the points.
