First off, I warn you this is gonna get into some deep lore.
So, how is Destiny a Vex Simulation?
Well if you have read the Vex Ghost Fragments, then you know the story of a group of Ishtar Collective scientists realizing that the Vex can simulate nearly everything with perfection. These scientists then begin to worry that they could in a Vex simulation themselves. I'm not gonna get into to the rest of the story because it's not relevant to the theory, although it is a pretty cool story.
Now think about when it says killed by the Architects. Who/what are the Architects? Well it appears that their kinda jerks just kill you sometime for no reason. How in the world could somebody just make someone die?!
Well here's the theory:
Destiny is all just a simulation run by a much smarter and more powerful and evolved form of the Vex, aka "The Architects of this simulation". Some form of a computer virus infects this simulation, a virus that we will eventually call "The Darkness".
The core of this huge simulation that the whole thing runs on reaches out to the living things in this simulation. "The Traveler" as we call this computer core comes to our solar system to try and help us survive this brutal virus and the rest is Destiny history!
Btw, the Vex are just a simpler form of the Architects that they built and put into the own simulations.
So tell me what you guys (and gals) think!

It's a pretty cool theory, but there's not much to support it beyond conjecture. Besides, the vex can't simulate the guardians or the warminds. TBH I don't think it's a bad theory, just unlikely

1 ReplyYou wake up in Destiny 5 after 10 years of build up to the climax to find it was all a dream. Your guardian gets in their '95 toyota and drives to their job delivering pizza at Papa John's.
-
Also they removed the simulation scientists and put them into the vex network.
-
Easy to dismiss, vex cannot simulate guardians.
-
Guardians, and the darkness are paracausal beings and cannot be simulated I have my own theory that the guardians from that card may have simply been watching the vex's recording of what they were doing, or they simply misinterpreted what they were seeing That or the vex are only capable of predicting the simplest of things like a human mind, such as what someone will do within the next few seconds or minutes
the vex may have simply been making good guesses, the guardians think theyre being simulated, so they'll likely do this next
1 ReplyYou don't get it man. The vex are caught in our simulation.

I highly doubt it. It's very predictable and woukd end up, not being fun. Now if it were for like 1 game or a dlc it may he cool, but not the entire life span of destiny

Very matrix but I feel like it's plausible

23 RepliesThis theory is interesting but it cannot be possible. Why you ask? Well it is well established in the lore that certain beings cannot be simulated by the Vex. For example, any of the Warminds being involved in the story immediately proves that Destiny is not a Vex simulation. You could argue that we have yet to outright directly interact with a Warmind so far in the story but if even if you disregard our interactions with the Warminds there is another being that outright damns this theory. Who could this being be? Oryx It states directly in the Grimoire that even the most powerful, most knowledgable Vex mind on Hive lore could not simulate Oryx. We directly combat Oryx at his best within his Throne Space. That alone kills this theory of the game being a simulation. Can this theory that I see posted by a new person every week die now please?

1 Replygood job we just lost a dlc because of you 😂😂

2 RepliesIt's a cool theory, and adds a lore reason why we can replay missions, each being just another simulation. Unfortunately, I don't think it's true. Im pretty sure the "killed by the architects" is just a reference to halos "killed by the guardians"

Good hypothesis!!! Maybe destiny needs some Vexual Healing 😉
-
I'm pretty the "architects" are the developers

1 ReplyCould all the lag be flaws in the simulation????

1 ReplyDon't get down bud! It's great that you're thinking deeper! I love how the community is so invested in the lore of this game. But yeah, despite the Vex's vast powers, they have one constant flaw in that they cannot understand Darkness, Light, or Warminds. This is why they worship the heart of the black garden. It was something so incredibly powerful, most likely of the darkness, that they Vex couldn't control, simulate or understand. This left them with the only logical behavior thy could find; to worship it. This was a really well made theory though. Keep at it! Never stop asking questions!

1 ReplyNo. No no no. NO. The Architects is a nod to the game designers, nothing to do with in-game lore. Now, on the point of your 'Vex-Simulation' nonsense, we're gonna have to get complicated. Real complicated. In Destiny, there are multiple dimensions of space time and reality. Think of it as large tree of time, with each branch split being any event in existence. It would start with the trunk, and then different outcomes arise, creating new events, creating infinite new outcomes. This concept can be paired with FWC, as they have looked at different future outcomes or 'branches'. The dimensions that the Vex have control over are limited, and not super expansive. They have the ability to pick and choose any branch they want, any infinite string of branch outcomes possible. However, the Light and the Darkness are viewed on a higher dimension scale. Instead of being a part of said branches, they have the power to 'grow' their own. This can be seen in the Vault of Glass raid during the Atheon fight: Guardians choose their own fate. Guardians are not confined by the set branches of the tree, but are rather adding or making our own. The Vex cannot simulate the Darkness(as seen in the Books of Sorrow), or the Light. The only other known thing that can escape the Vex's understanding is a Warmind, but they were invented during the peak of the Golden Age, so we can call it Light-related.

1 ReplyAs stated below by TriumphantLord, the Vex are unable to simulate a Warmind(Rasputin) the Darkness, or the Light. Even if the Darkness was a virus, and the Traveler a supercomputer, that doesn't change the fact that the Vex can't simulate either of them. Quria, Blade Transform(Vex) also attempted to simulate Oryx, but he could not understand his powers(?), and he was only able to come up with Aurash, Oryx's original form. Also kinda related: the Developers said that Destiny is not a Vex simulation.

3 RepliesOne of the things the Vex can't simulate is guardians
