I have a 3ds XL and I want to play Pokemon. I have never played Pokemon in my life and would like to start now. I have a 20 dollar budget so any games I should get?
Edit: I am deciding between black or y or omega ruby
Edit 2: I decided I'm going to get Y

Omega ruby and alpha sapphire are great.
-
Pokemon Y. Both X and Y are the most beginner friendly and they added in some great features to the series as well.
-
Id go with Omega Ruby. It seems to have the most love put into it, but I may be biased since I started on Sapphire.

1 ReplyTo be honest, you should start in 6th gen already, X and Y are very begginer friendly and great overral, once you get the idea you can go for older games cause they're hardcore, harder.
-
1 Reply3rd or 4th Gen is where you should start. Those are the ruby/saphire/emerald and diamond/pearl/platinum games. If you want good showboat watch on netflix, Pokemon Indigo League is the only good season. Cardwise, start from Flash fire and go up from there. Enjoy.

6 RepliesI would start with the first generation. You can find an emulator and a Pokemon Fire Red or Leaf Green ROM for free, and you can play it with an Xbox controller on nearly any shitty PC. After that you should just go through the generations. Heart Gold/Soul Silver, Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire, so on and so forth. Everything after Red and Green you can play on a 3DS, I think.
-
1 ReplyOut of your choices, I'd definitely say Y.
-
1 ReplyEither, get the original Gameboy games on 3ds estore, or buy soul silver. I haven't played oras, but ruby/emerald is my favorite gen. And if you have a 3ds, obviously get x or y.

2 RepliesI'd suggest trying to pick up Diamond/Pearl/Platinum as Sinnoh was my favorite region, but at the same time my heart belongs to Emerald and Hoenn. You should also download PokeMMO. It's a free, modable version of the Fire Red, Heart Gold/Soul Silver, and Emerald roms.

Get Emerald on an emulator or old hardware if you have it is what I'd honestly love to say, but of course that could be hard to track down and it's not a game that should be emulated if you have another option. Past that, Generation 4(Diamond/Pearl/Platinum) was a great set of games, and as far as having an overall sense of togetherness between generations(look at Gen 6 and you'll understand this, style-wise they changed significantly by X/Y and you can tell) I think Pokemon was in the best place it's been with Sinnoh. I've also heard some people liked Black/White and their sequels a lot, but I didn't play generation 5 yet(been planning to check if my GameStop has a copy in the little rack of old DS games) so I won't speak for that. So yeah, Diamond and Pearl were great. Platinum is slightly different from them in the way Emerald was from the other Hoenn games, though, so it might be more interesting to you if you picked that up.

OG RED
-
Heart gold or soul silver

A $20 budget. My mind is wondering how you could afford a 3ds in the first place.
-
Soul Silver

I'd recommend alpha sapphire or platinum.
-
Get Platinum
-
Just get one. It's not like you need to play the others to play the new ones.
-
Get an emulator and download the older ones for free. Buy either Omega or Alpha.
-
2 RepliesGet either Pokemon Yellow, Red, or Blue. They are $15 on the nintendoshop. (Or whatever the download store is called on 3DS.)
-
Y or omega ruby. Good luck and enjoy
-
Soul silver or heart gold
-
Ruby or sapphire are the best imo (Probably since those were my first two and bring back a TON of nostalgia)
-
The original games are classics man, and still a lot of fun. Start with red or blue, or maybe yellow. Good fun

Updated on what I may get

well you can get the originals on emulators on a computer (which is slightly illegal but free) sooo
