With recent nerfes for weapons like thorn and year 1 suros it has occurred to me that exotics just don't feel like an exotic. If you are gonna make a gun legendary don't make it better than an exotic because the exotics in the game. Don't act or feel they are exotic with all the work it took to get them they still get destroyed to a legendary like doctrine or grasp of malok

3oC is a necessary evil. But not one that needs to stay. If the system remained the exact same from y1, Y1 players would have a severely uphill battle trying to get any new exotics, especially with the bounty weapons added to the loot table Basically, Everytime they add a new exotic to the table, your odds of getting that item drop because instead of having a 1/10 chance of getting it, it's now a 1/15 chance if they just add 5 exotics to the table. Not saying 3oC has to stay, but the RNG monster would just get worse and worse. It was also a solution to those who had a surplus of coins and nothing to do with them. They just need to make a different different use for coins, but more ways to combat RNG without just giving us more "rolls" on the loot table like 3oC does.

4 RepliesExotics are supposed to be major difference makers, not something that is simply "unique." This was the reason they were so rare in Y1 and so hard to get (only through Xur, Raids, and NF, legendary engrams if you got lucky). Some exotics were available through bounties, but they were more "utility" exotics - middle of the pack exotics as far as PVE goes. Not game changers, but definitely able to boost your firepower. With exotics being so readily available to everyone, they've kind of lost their special feeling, and that is further reduced with how weak they have gotten. Unfortunately, this has sucked the life and fun out of the game, as there really is NOTHING to get excited about when doing endgame content. Exotics you can get even in patrol, and none of them are so good that you you would throw your mic and scream running through the house, like one of my members did when he got his first G-horn. None of the raid weapons are sought after for anything other than their infusion value (except maybe the chain gun). I haven't gotten excited about a drop since HoW era. I haven't ever fired a new gun at a crowd of enemies and gone "HOLY #@$@#$@#$!!!!! That was awesome!" Both of those things are why we kept playing in Y1, even when the content felt beyond repetitive and punishing. I understand they're trying to strike a balance between casual and hardcore players, but this is definitely NOT what they wanted the game to be like, I'm sure.

1 ReplyOnly exotic weapon I bother with at all is the invective or ice breaker in PvP. I like not worrying about special ammo when I'm busy playing video games lol. Nothing besides those 2 guns feel exotic. There all shards. Vanilla was a much better experience when it comes to what a exotic should feel like when I'm about to pull the trigger
-
They're supposed to be, for example in lore all of the guns are more badass but they can't be because of pvp, they should be separate so guns can be more badass.
-
A wild MIDA appeared!... A >Grasp of Malock was super effective B > Accept the death but go down fighting C > Kill the enemy because they can't shoot straight with an exotic
-
17 RepliesYou seem to be conflating overpowered with exotic. A gun that fires dubstep is exotic. A gun that just does everything better than every comparable gun is not.
-
1 ReplyCareful there, if an exotic is too exotic its considered OP now a days
-
I think a few feel exotic, like telesto or zhalo, but I think they should be more powerful than a legendary of the same archetype. If there not gonna be more powerful we might as well be able to equip more than one at a time.
-
Ok most of your objections are aimed at the gun overall power, which is something we can have if the PvP community weren't nerfing the damn weapons every update. Now just an example of how design take some ...steps back here is the comparison of Y1 No time to explain (legendary) and the Y2 No time to explain (exotic) the overall power is the same and the perks too, now for the ones who have both weapons you'll know which i which, for the rest it will be interesting to see which looks more...exotic

Edited by Cromie: 7/16/2016 6:16:42 PMBump for justice. We need powerful exotics, not trashy, "unique" ones.

1 ReplyBumpomaniac "Bumps so good" +5 bumps.

I was looking at the Dreg's promise i got that's high power last night and realized that my generic side arm is just as powerful but without any perks. There is only a tiny difference between the two and it shows how unexotic guns are now.

16 RepliesEdited by Kone19ps: 7/16/2016 5:21:15 PMExotics are unique not default most powerful. They allow for different builds and strategies. In year one they were almost default most powerful so they were desired but devalued every other weapon

Edited by sharkhunter81: 7/16/2016 3:49:01 PMI don't even think about an "exotic" anymore when choosing load outs. I choose what I like, what works well and 9/10, I don't have an exotic weapon or armor piece equipped. I used to feel like I had to have a weapon and armor piece active or I would be missing out on something, that my load out wasn't it's best unless I was using exotics. I stopped thinking about exotics in the way that they used to "exotic". There is no way to slice it, they have become nerfed to the point that equipping one, could actually put you at a disadvantage over a better legendary. The idea that they have become less than effective and no longer hold that "exotic" feel, can't even be argued. Though, I'm sure people will try..... .....and fail.

3 RepliesWhen exotics are not used as leveling materials. Then they will feel like exotics again
-
6 RepliesNo you see, the problem is with the community. Some exotics did feel op, as they were suppose to be the most powerful guns in the game right? What happened was all these people on these forums especially moaned and bitched to nerf specific guns when they where in their prime. Yous all ruined it for yourselfs. Destiny today is more balanced than it has ever been. But ask yourselves this, are you enjoying crucible right now more than you did at any other point in destinys lifetime?

2 RepliesThey sound exotic. Does that count?

1 ReplyEdited by Rebellis: 7/15/2016 8:44:32 AMBlame Trials. When I bought Destiny I thought it was going to be this unique sci-fi PvE shooter with some pretty cool weapons. Turns out nothing could be further from that dream I had.
-
Sadly, with Bungie so focused on catering to the PvP crowd, they have effectively limited design space for how "good" an exotic weapon can be. Think of exotics not as a weapon that is supposed to be powerful, but a weapon that is supposed to encourage new playstyles and tactics.

Edited by Moxxis Playtoy: 7/15/2016 7:03:17 PMTell me about it. I remember deleting and making a titan again so I can get more playtime in Destiny without being bored and got a handcannon that looks like the last word and Ace. Had gun model and color of last word but a ace on both sides of the barrel. It was just missing the little green light from the last word.\ I also agree that exotics have lost the touch they had.
-
7 RepliesI think the Exotics perform as intended, they are not meant to " Outperform" all other weapons but offer you a perk that nothing else offers. Take Mida, a lot of people complained about the recent nerf, the big perk on the gun is the increase in movement speed.....combine that with Shoulder charge and MK 44 or Hunter and RDM its a huge benefit......Badjuju is great in PVE if your running SOLO, Nothing Manacales and the right perks I can throw grenades endlessly. Use them for what they were made for.

4 RepliesBoolean Gemini should be legendary
-
Good idea, badly executed by bungie. Especially for not doing exotic balance different in PVE and PVP.

It's pretty sad when most legendaries out perform exotics. Like baby Hawkmoon for example. With a decent roll Eysaluna is far more consistent. I played on my buddy's PSN pre-Hawkmoon nerf & I was foaming at the mouth! I couldn't wait for that gun to come to Xbox, but sad to say we got the wings clipped version.
