Before you say "Where's Metallica?", I didn't put them on here because I don't think they're nearly as good as these bands. Their first albums were good up to the Black Album, but I personally don't like any album after that.
Edit: just so everyone is aware, this is the GREATEST metal bands of all time. It's not the most INFLUENTIAL metal bands of all time. If it was, Metallica would definitely be on this list. The reason they're not is because half of their albums are mediocre.

3 RepliesShould've replaced Death with Metallica. Love them or hate them, Metallica have had a massive influence on the metal genre, and pretty much kept metal in the 80s the way it always should be; heavy. 'Kill 'Em All', 'Ride the Lightning', 'Master of Puppets', '...And Justice For All', each of those albums were gems in their own ways. Especially 'Master of Puppets', as it is an album I listen to regularly, because of how musically inspirational it is to me. My point is, while Metallica may have gone slightly downhill over the years, they basically shaped Thrash Metal into what it was and what it is. A band that changed metal, even music as a whole, definitely deserves to be on that list. /semi-rant

Death is hands down the most influential band of all time behind black sabbath. Without Death most of the hardcore shit you listen to wouldnt even be a thought. Growling and screaming wouldnt even be a standard for metal and every form of metal that branches from Death metal wouldnt have even existed if it werent for Death. Rest In Peace to my hero Chuck Schuldiner. The godfather of Death Metal.
