Coming from the generation that explored the pixelated world of Wolfenstein 3D and Doom on DoS ...and even the chaotic fps mechanics in Quake 2 for Windows 98, I can honestly say that I love this game. From the lore to the detail on the walls of the various underground ruins, it's absolutely beautiful. And that skybox! I play Destiny even when I'm not on a mission...just to explore the environment.
I also like the diversity in the community. Aside from classes and sub-classes it's pretty easy to distinguish the raid guardians from the crucible guardians. There are lone wolves and there are full crews...and I've even had the pleasure of playing with some people that I could only describe as Legendary themselves.
The bottom line is, if you can get past the whole "rng didn't give me what I want" aspect of the game, you're left with a game that immerses you in a huge playing field full of awesome people and activities. (Yes, I understand that there are plenty of trolls and brats but I don't include them into my perception because...well, we aren't playing the same game.)
Keep up the good work Bungie crew.
EDIT: Please re-read the title of this thread before you comment. It says Destiny is ONE OF THE best games ever made. It does NOT...let me repeat..DOES NOT say Destiny IS the best game ever made.
Then again, if you can't even read the title properly then you probably wont see this...
EDIT 2: Alright folks, while it has been fun and I have seen two distinct sides to this opinion, I must retire.
For those of you who have expressed gratitude and enjoyment for this game, keep it up. You guys are the core of this community.
For those who have expressed disdain and dislike for this game, I hope you find something that brings you as much enjoyment as this game has brought to others.
Thanks everyone.

I would say that destiny demands a lot of time. As communities go I am partial to the Tera Online community. As far as destiny itself I think it has some major flaws despite being a fun game to play. To be honest if there weren't so many hackers in COD MW3 I would still play that over destiny. Destiny has one of the worst story lines of any game I've played and the reason being is, it tries to have a story for everything but every story is entirely lacking content. It's like they kept some of the major events and cut everything else out so now we have to fill in the details with what few details are in the grimoire cards and that even leaves a lot to interpretation and guess work. Bungie is a control freak about their content or they are lazy they are not proactive, they are reactive. They throw out an update or bring out new content wait for the players to exploit the flaws then take it away for a few weeks so they can fix it, remember how long it took to fix the argonanach rune? When they put out new content they don't update the old content to make it relevant such as the old raids (which if they were updated could be just as challenging as CoE or Orikis) I remember when you could play each of the story modes on 4 different difficulty levels and that was awesome too. Now you get 2 options and even the 240 light level isn't difficult. Year 1 weapons and armor that they didn't want to fix they just made irrelevent to play with. I'd love to have a year 2 thorn or even a year 2 thorn bounty as that's how we had to get it the first time but they didn't care to fix the weapon balance so they just made it remain year 1, same with gally. Destiny is a fun game and I do enjoy playing it, the community is an okay one, I've seen both better and worse communities. I think that one of the main reasons that destiny still has a large following is because the games that have come out recently all have similar issues as destiny, the Dlc's cost a fortune the content is over controlled and the games are reactive about problems not proactive. When new content comes out it makes old content irrelevent. What ever happened to paying 60 dollars and getting a full game? Any additional content was add on content that not getting didn't detract from the playing experience. I think that as gamers we are letting the gaming development community to get away with too much. Alot of the games I play now are on pc and they are F2P or made by indie devs that want to please the gamers. They are games made by gamers for gamers they aren't great games like Battlefield or Battlefront or Destiny or Halo, but they are good, they are fun and the developers listen to their players because they need to. If we want really great games again we have to change the developing community's mindset about gamers, because right now they see us as cattle that will simply buy whatever they say is going to be a great game and most gamers do just that because we are hungry for something better that just turns out to be mediocre and a scam because now we have to buy 40 dollars worth of Dlc to get the next update 4 months later.

Somebody hasn't ever played Destiny

best average game ever. top bargain bin buy

That's your opinion

7 RepliesDestiny is a good time waster but that's about it. If there were better games on the market right now I think a good chunk of this community would go elsewhere. Bungie got lucky with Destiny. This being the age of remakes and shitty annual sequels. They're gonna start getting serious competition ( the lolz-tastic Division doesn't count) so it has yet to be seen if Destiny 2 can grab people the same way. TL;DR Destiny is fun, but it's success is more from lack of good games on the market and less skillful execution by Bungie.

3 RepliesIf this is one of the best games ever made to you, you must be mentally retarded.
-
Really well written post. I feel the same.

Its one of the best fps that i ever play, since iam not realy a fan of the genere it surprise me how well I adapt to destiny, but as a game its not on the top class, in that matter it lacks a lot of what in my opinion makes a god game, like an inmersive story for example, either way i spent a lot of fun hours playing destiny and i will be playing a lot more on the future.

1 ReplyThe fact that, even almost 2 years into its life, people still clamor for PvE content is a true sign that this game is made well. There are flaws and questionable design, but it doesn't change the fact that people love and play the game. We want higher standards because we expect it from Destiny; most games never get that kind of fanaticism.
-
It certainly is a great game, but year one did leave a sour taste with how disjoint the whole story was. Hopefully destiny 2 won't suffer the same fate.
-
Agree wholeheartedly, my major complaints are content not being released often enough, and Bungie being very lackadaisical about addressing issues in the game such as scatter grenades hanging in the air and not going off a problem that has been around for months yet it never gets fixed. However yes this is the best FPS game I have ever played.
-
In terms of flawless smooth silky fps game play yes definitely, no other game comes remotely close. Destiny has its issues we all know but the core game play is phenomenonal.
-
7 RepliesAgree, any one who disagrees and is on these Forums is a hypocrite. Why would you be on these forums if you didn't play Destiny, and who of those play Destiny because they hate it? Case closed.

4 RepliesEdited by Octopus: 5/28/2016 6:31:47 PMDisagree. Destiny is a giant ruled by dwarfs. And therefor has to live the life of a dwarf too.
-
The mechanics of this game is revolutionary. Should've changed gaming forever, hopefully they go with a bang in D2 otherwise this game is on the fence
-
Your last line in your edit is my favorite lol and you're right if they didn't read the title right they won't get to the edit
-
3 RepliesIt isn't even in the top 20 of games I have played. Alex Kidd on Turbo Graphix 16 was a deeper game
-
We talk about this a lot in my group of friends and as gamers since 89 we all agree that this might be one of the best games ever made. No other game has sucked me in for almost 50 days. It has flaws but everything will buy at the core this game is fantastic.

Overwatch PvP is more balanced compared to Destiny PvP. Just my two cents.
EXCEPT FOR GODDAMNED TORBJORN.
~TheGreatReebok

He'll Yea one of the best. Most ppl miss out on it though. Having a steady team or clan to run activities with is we hat really makes the game great for me.
-
Agreed, one of the best games i've ever played. Nice to see some positivity on the forums for a change :)

10 RepliesPeople want a story. Have you heard of lore? That's how bungie made Halo one of the biggest franchises. It wasn't the in game story that created a massive fan base but the lore they had in the background. Maybe if his generation would take some time to read a little about this game you'd learn that there is a huge story going on. The game we played was simply an introduction to characters almost the same as character building in movies or books.

Agreed

1 ReplyEdited by Mugiwaraboshi: 5/28/2016 4:46:34 AMBest game ever made probably not, best game ever can never exist because people have different opinions. But I will say this game is damn addicting. I don't play much anymore but as soon as some new content drops I'll be back looking for my next score. This game is cocaine and I am scarface

It's sweet, a true and worthy successor to Doom, Marathon, and everything. I just wish the Bungie forums community was a little more like it was in about 2004.
