Let's face it, Destiny is one of the best games ever made...

Coming from the generation that explored the pixelated world of Wolfenstein 3D and Doom on DoS ...and even the chaotic fps mechanics in Quake 2 for Windows 98, I can honestly say that I love this game. From the lore to the detail on the walls of the various underground ruins, it's absolutely beautiful. And that skybox! I play Destiny even when I'm not on a mission...just to explore the environment. I also like the diversity in the community. Aside from classes and sub-classes it's pretty easy to distinguish the raid guardians from the crucible guardians. There are lone wolves and there are full crews...and I've even had the pleasure of playing with some people that I could only describe as Legendary themselves. The bottom line is, if you can get past the whole "rng didn't give me what I want" aspect of the game, you're left with a game that immerses you in a huge playing field full of awesome people and activities. (Yes, I understand that there are plenty of trolls and brats but I don't include them into my perception because...well, we aren't playing the same game.) Keep up the good work Bungie crew. EDIT: Please re-read the title of this thread before you comment. It says Destiny is ONE OF THE best games ever made. It does NOT...let me repeat..DOES NOT say Destiny IS the best game ever made. Then again, if you can't even read the title properly then you probably wont see this... EDIT 2: Alright folks, while it has been fun and I have seen two distinct sides to this opinion, I must retire. For those of you who have expressed gratitude and enjoyment for this game, keep it up. You guys are the core of this community. For those who have expressed disdain and dislike for this game, I hope you find something that brings you as much enjoyment as this game has brought to others. Thanks everyone.

It used to be. During the house of wolves era we had 2 relevant raids thanks to etheric light. Snipers weren't the only special weapon option in both pvp and pve. Blade dancers were rivals to sunsingers so there was better class balance. Connection based matchmaking. House of wolves came out a year ago, and the game has released more content since, but it has never been less enjoyable and there is less content to play.

  • Destiny is alright. I dont love it, I dont hate it, but I still play it when my friends are on. The real downfall to destiny in my eyes os the lack of endgame content, especially PVE content. Yes we have raids and strikes, but how many strikes can you do before you get bored? The raids are fun, but 2 of the 3 are currently, for the most part, irrelevant. Even if you do choose to do the raids, you only get rewarded once per week, and if you have close to all the exotics (which i am going to assume most veteran players do), even using three of coins doesnt make the content worth repeating. Hopefully Bungie adresses the countless feedback and complaints from us players here on the forums, as for the past 2 years all our suggestions seem to have been lost in the wind. This is just my opinion, take it with a grain of salt. -year 1 veteran, 1500+ hours on Destiny.

  • If I knew I was buying something as adictive as cocaine when I first bought this game I would've destroyed it into smithereens. I didn't know, and after a couple of thousand hours of gameplay, I still play it, and will play the expansions coming up, and the sequels, and no matter how much they bash it, I'll still love it. Never played a game this long.

    • If Bioware/EA had made a game like Destiny, but established in the Mass Effect universe, I wouldn't be here. I'd be playing co-op missions as a Krogan soldier or Quarian engineer, and having a blast. Destiny is a good game, don't get me wrong...but it's only still going because no other game that's out right now can deliver what Destiny does. Destiny won't be a great game until they can perfect their product.

I do not agree, its an ok game that i play from time to time, unlike before. It had a lot of potential but it was ruined with their bussiness model, it works for them and apparently a lot of the young audience. But for people that like their money to be invested in something good, Destiny is not an option. For each win this game has over others, it produces 10 more loses, from glitches to unbalancing, from lack of content and social options to their refusal for dedicated servers.

          • I agree with you! ONE of my favorite games of all time. I've put more hours into destiny than any game I can think of. I played hundreds of hours of halo 1 and halo 2. Probably more halo 2. I have at least 200 hours in Mass Effect 2. 270+ hours in Oblivion and 400+ hours in Skyrim. I have tons of hours in Super Smash Bro's Melee too. I feel like my hours in destiny trump any one game. I've got close to 1500 hours in this game and is essentially the July game I've played since it dropped.

          • if I Bought the game now like today, I might agree. but after having my charaters and level and gear systems reset and lowered with every dlc. with the core systems of the game changing every 3 months. If I didn't know about the broken promises and cut content....

          • VOG alone puts it atop the leaderboard for me. I wish the other raids were as awesome.

Indeed... was just telling this to a friend the other night. All repetitive content and certain bugs aside (I'm looking at you firefly), Destiny is the greatest feeling game I've ever played. It's so fluid and clean. He loves Halo and doesn't play much else; I used to be the same way. Now I go back and play Halo with him and I feel like the movement is chunky, strange, and in many cases like I'm ice skating. I used to be a die hard Halo player/fan. Even read most the books (read one of the Karen Traviss books and stopped at that, her prose got on my nerves). FPS have always been my favorite genre of games, having played them for over 20 years, I can honestly say Destiny implements the best mechanics of them all.

              • Here is the real question: Is Destiny actually "fun"? or are we just obsessed with randomly collecting things to make our characters more powerful? Destiny is a lot like a Freemium game... minus the ability to buy your way to becoming the most powerful, highest levelled character in the game. A Freemium game, as stated by South Park, is: a game that is free to download, but the game is about waiting. You take advantage of the impatient players by including In-App purchases that allow you to use real money to buy fake In-Game money to bypass the wait times and upgrade, refresh, train troops, whatever it is that players need to wait for. For Destiny though, replace the waiting with RNG and you've got yourself a Freemium game. The aspect of Destiny you say is the "fun". Is really just your desire to increase your light level and your addiction to trying to get loot that raises it. One player once said: "When you really look at Destiny, it's a game about getting stuff. Then working hard and giving up hours of your life in order to get better stuff than the stuff you already have... wow... Destiny is a simulation of real life!" So there you have it. I believe someone who commented on this earlier said "If you remove RNG and let players be able to get what they want then everyone would quit Destiny".
