Let's face it, Destiny is one of the best games ever made...
Coming from the generation that explored the pixelated world of Wolfenstein 3D and Doom on DoS ...and even the chaotic fps mechanics in Quake 2 for Windows 98, I can honestly say that I love this game. From the lore to the detail on the walls of the various underground ruins, it's absolutely beautiful. And that skybox! I play Destiny even when I'm not on a mission...just to explore the environment.
I also like the diversity in the community. Aside from classes and sub-classes it's pretty easy to distinguish the raid guardians from the crucible guardians. There are lone wolves and there are full crews...and I've even had the pleasure of playing with some people that I could only describe as Legendary themselves.
The bottom line is, if you can get past the whole "rng didn't give me what I want" aspect of the game, you're left with a game that immerses you in a huge playing field full of awesome people and activities. (Yes, I understand that there are plenty of trolls and brats but I don't include them into my perception because...well, we aren't playing the same game.)

EDIT: Please re-read the title of this thread before you comment. It says Destiny is [b]ONE OF[/b] THE best games ever made. It does [b]NOT[/b]...let me repeat..[b]DOES NOT[/b] say Destiny [b]IS[/b] the best game ever made.
Then again, if you can't even read the title properly then you probably wont see this...
EDIT 2: Alright folks, while it has been fun and I have seen two distinct sides to this opinion, I must retire.
For those of you who have expressed gratitude and enjoyment for this game, keep it up. You guys are the core of this community.
For those who have expressed disdain and dislike for this game, I hope you find something that brings you as much enjoyment as this game has brought to others.

Why are we only visiting one square mile of each planet (and I mean this in terms of relative scale)? Where is Europe (outside of PvP), Japan, Africa, Central America, etc.? Why only the jungles and swamps of Venus? What about more technology centers on Mars much like Freehold? Also doesn't help that there are invisible walls everywhere. The lore is also very interesting; however, it's somewhat disjointed because either you have to search out dead ghosts in the most obscure locations ever, for weapons you probably dismantle .004 seconds after getting them, or for items only obtainable through activities outside of matchmaking. And let's not forget the infamous plot holes that happen here and there such as the following: "Have you heard of the Black Garden?" "We've heard the legends." Me: WHEN?! The raids also make for some fun times...with a team you trust. Even then, there are times a raid appears without any clear connections to the plot (at least to me). Why go to the Vault of Glass other than it being a Vex stronghold? Did Atheon threaten us from within it? How do we know Crota was whisked away into the Hellmouth proper? For that matter, what about finding Oryx in the Ascendant Realm immediately after fighting him in the Dreadnaught? Destiny is a fantastic game that suffers from a bunch of holes that need filling. And a lack of separation of PvE and PvP.

It is. It really is. And what it was supposed to be, it couldve been the best. Whoever is making the major decisions behind Destiny, is whos ruining. Its getting better. Slowly.

It's pretty good, but Mass Effect and Bioshock beat it by a mile regarding graphics, lore and story.

2 RepliesThere are some good things in Destiny. To say it is one of the best games ever is a slap in the face to the games that hold that title. Let me remind you year 1 felt like a beta for a long time, they stripped half the game out and sold it as dlc, issues and bugs were gambreaking, and the amount of network issues is really high. To put it up there with games like 007 Goldeneye on N64, COD4 campaign, Halo, GTA Vice City (to name a few) is nuts.

10 RepliesLet's not kid ourselves, it's more addictive than fun. Grinding the exact thing hundreds of times is only fun if you're insane. What is really going on is addiction, players are addicted to the gamble for better loot. The shooting mechanics are great, the art is great, but it's not THAT fun. If RNG didn't exist and you were given all the same end game loot people would have dropped Destiny long ago. Really fun games have replay value. Without RNG Destiny has no replay value.

Destiny "USED" to be to be the best game ever made. There, I fixed it for ya. This is my opinion, allow me to elaborate. 1. TTK expansion made changes that no one wanted. This includes making 2/3 of the entire content of the game irrelevant. Both y1 raids, all y1 strikes, PoE and all previously relevant Y1 endgame content. 2. Constant weapon/character balancing to appease the ADD/ADHD PvP crowd. While some of these changes were necessary for PvP balance, they had drastically negative effects on PVE. Supers in PVE are anything but super and weapons hit like wet noodles. It's so bad. 3. All Y1 earned items trashed in one swift stroke. This pisses me off the most. Every single piece of gear we spent hours grinding to get the perfect roll on, made useless. Don't even get me started on elemental primaries.

It's absolutely one of my favorite games of all time, and by the far the game I've put the most time into (nothing comes remotely close) but I wouldn't say it's one of the best games of all time. If there was a list of the top 100 games of all time, it definitely be on it, just not in the top 5 or anything. I would however, say it's both the most addicting and ambitious game ever made.

3 RepliesI'd agree. I always seem to come back to Destiny no matter how much I quit- thats means it's a good game. This also means it's of a higher quality then it's competition. Destiny has outlasted all the other games on the PlayStation 4. Look at The Elder Scrolls Online, Battlefield, or Call Of Duty- those games don't have anywhere near the player base of Destiny. I think Destiny has reached the point where it's become the game that defined a generation.

14 RepliesIt's fun, and it's kept me playing on and off for a while. But... That's entirely because it is more addictive than crack. It is (imo) no where close to one of the best games. It would be one of the best games if - They didn't cut content - They didn't have one of the worst, most boring stories I have ever played - They had better servers - They had a better balancing team - They never joined Activision - It had a MUCH better and bigger open world/patrol that was harder Really when it comes down to what is bad about Destiny I think of lag, horrible balancing, a story that is worse than the majority of CoD games, a boring and bland patrol, and all of the cut content. Seriously, take an hour or two and go back to look at old Destiny videos before it went into alpha. They completely 100% lied about the story and a hundred other things. We were supposed to have the content we have now at launch if they actually delivered on what they said. The game that they showcased way back then, that was game of the year material.

It is a great game (in my top 5 of all time) the one thing it lacks for me is dedicated servers, I love crucible but man the lag now is on another level.

It is not one of the best, plenty of games shit all over it in regards to story emersion, Item management, trading, match making, Dedicated servers, in game lore, the list is endless. the only thing destiny has going for it, is its solid and fluid controls and movement A class above in that respect the rest of it is trash. The top notch core FPS mechanics are there sadly everything else is not. Its a shame really. It could of been great !

I couldn't agree more. Destiny is my addiction , yes I'm maxed out and have nearly everything but i still believe Bungie will come out with more really great stuff very soon. Bungie will deliver, there is money on the table and they are welcome to it! I'm all in. Sign me up. Signed happy gamer with disposable income. :)
