Bungie, please provide matchmaking for Challenge of the Elders. Without matchmaking solo players are left with the option of doing it solo or not at all. Challenge of Elders is not so hard that you couldn't provide simple matchmaking. On the other hand, solo players are left out in the cold until/unless they can find two friends--leaving more content/gear hidden away behind Destiny's LFG woes.
Why is it that Bungie is so vehemently opposed to implementing simple matchmaking mechanics? Why? Is there a reason? Or are they just lazy?
Update: For those choosing "Fireteams Only" please explain why. And please don't resort to LFG idiocy.
Update 2: It would seem that the consensus opinion would like to see the following:
* Optional matchmaking for CoE and NF (yes, definitely)
* Optional matchmaking for raids (maybe yes, but possibly something just to justify LFG)
* Option to boot fireteam members that are AFK (or autoboot AFK/idle players)
* Matchmaking needs some basic filters (mic/no-mic, light level, etc.)
Anything else?

4 RepliesOptional yes. I like to solo, and I wouldn't want to lose that.
-
6 RepliesThere are literally thousands of videos on youtube of people soloing challenge of elders. There is nothing difficult about it and there is no reason for it not to have MM.
-
1 ReplyThis is fairly universally wanted at this point but bungies philosophy won't allow it. They want you out spending time on all the third party apps recruiting people to play

3 RepliesI'm tired of managing groups for Bungie. There is no difference if I do it or if it is automated, other than wasting my time.

Edited by Kugelblitz: 5/6/2016 12:11:59 AMThese are the main issues I could come up with, looking at it objectively: 1) No player has control over the match team, unless they were on a fireteam first. People who are afk, have a bad connection, have a bad attitude, etc. would remain in the match team, potentially disrupting the game and taking away from the experience. For example, I join CoE by myself and get matched up with two others. One player decides he doesn't care about points at all and proceeds to kill everything with body shots. This would make it hard to achieve the high score on the elders sigil. Personally, if this really was an issue, I would form my own fireteam prior to joining, like I do right now. So, really this doesn't change anything for me other than finding a team for me when I just want to grind. Matchmaking would save me a lot of time when I'm grinding CoE and having to constantly maintain a team of 3. I can do it by myself. But, it's faster with more players. Marchmaking - 1 No matchmaking - 0 2) Poor communication. Not everyone has a mic. And, some challenges, like Skolas in year 1, would be a lot more difficult, if not impossible, if you couldn't talk to each other. Though, we've yet to see a challenge that really requires anything but yourself. But, playing by yourself gets boring. If I feel that my team needs to have a mic, in order for us to be successful, then I would find my own group, as I do now. I will always find my own group for a raid, even if there was matchmaking. Communication is key for that type of content. But, it doesn't negatively impact my experience if others want to try it without mics and with random people. Matchmaking - 2 No matchmaking - 0 3) Solo players. As matchmaking is currently implemented, this would force solo players to have to play with a group, despite them not wanting to. All matchmaking should be made optional to avoid this. Matchmaking - 2 No matchmaking - 1 Since we're keeping score. We've got to give a point to whichever gets the most votes. Matchmaking - 3 No matchmaking - 1 Bungie, please just add matchmaking for everything and give us more ammo. Watch how much more fun we'll have. Wait, you may not understand that. So, I should speak in Bungievision... Observe how the utilization metrics increase for end-game activities, and the players online per hour goes up gradually.

2 RepliesSimply use LFG. I've ran Challenge at least 30-40 times over the past couple of weeks. I created my own post and out of all those I've completed I've only had issues with 1 person that ran them 3x with me. Immature and just to bossy and had to go.

Optional matchmaking*

1 ReplyBungie sees your poll, shrugs shoulders and goes back to nerfing things for crucibabies
-
There is only one reason why bungie have not implemented MM in COE, It prolongs play time adding numbers to their stats.
-
Then you would be matched with two 310s trying to get lucky and get carried so nah I'm good
-
1 ReplyIt really may as well be matchmade cus every CoE I've played goes "need 2 for CoE-no mic". Never had a convo wen playing it cus 1. I don't usually want to n 2. It's basically an extended strike-communication isn't necessary. Unlike trials for example, where I will of course chat, cus communication is key.

-blam!- no. Fire teams only scrub

Lol bet a lot of you trolls felt the wrath of destiny servers yesterday and felt like shit when you had to start over at the last boss....maybe not lol.

My opinion is torn between the two. On the one hand, it is meant to be an endgame-style activity, and random members may very well screw you out of your points for the week (it's happened to me with a lot of Crucible bounties and quests, too. line up a perfect grenade throw or a beautiful throwing knife arc and have some low-skill, 0.2 round KD loser steal the kill with a lucky last-second AR bullet.). However, it's also a relatively easy and simple mission, so matchmaking could speed up getting weekly totals once you've received your one-game total with a Fireteam. Simple solution: Add optional matchmaking, not just for this but for all activities.

53 RepliesIt's endgame. Get over it.

In the time it took you to write this post, you could have gone on bnet or the app and made about 10 post asking for help.
-
It's so easy idk why it isn't already
-
I run this with randoms with no mics, might as well be matchmake right?
-
Nightfalls and poe fine but not the raids.
-
I'd agree but only if it was optional matchmaking.
-
29 RepliesIt's nothing but a strike. They need to implement optional matchmaking and the ability to boot.
