1 ReplyI mean if you play games you're a gamer. The great thing about stating you're a gamer is the anonymity of the term. Labelling yourself as a "Gamer Girl" or "Gamer Boy" is just as stupid as saying you're a "Student Girl" or "Student Boy".
-
I think it degrades the girls who game who don't care what people think. Especially annoying are some of those Twitch girls, who purposely angle their cams for boob shots just to get attention and donations. In my opinion, you're a casual gamer or a hardcore gamer, male or female is irrelevant.

1 ReplyTell that to any party chat full of teenage virgins. Have you ever experienced what happens if a female voice joins?

2 RepliesPersonally I feel the fact that young attractive women are going out of their way to identify as gamers and "nerds" is god damned amazing. I'm not going to argue that sometimes their attempts at showing what a nerd they are can come across as forced but my reaction is usually "aww that's adorable!" rather than the bizarre "gflaghhh!! This woman has no idea what it means to truly be a gamer! "oooh I've played mario brothers on an original nes I'm so hardcore" YOU HAVE NO -blam!-ING IDEA what being a gamer truly means this is something I have dedicated my life to bitch!!!" psychopathic reaction you see from guys towards women who are trying to ingratiate themselves to them. What is ironic to me is that many women are initially attracted to gamer and nerd culture because it seems so accepting and empathetic to them. In a way the male gamer reaction to the enormous proliferation of attractive "pseudo nerds" reminds me of Louis Ck's "everything is amazing and nobody is happy" rant. If you walked up to group of hardcore nerds in 1981 and explained to them that one day millions of gorgeous women would self identify with their subculture and post galleries of pictures of them posing in skimpy outfits while surrounded by video games and dressing up like science fiction characters their -blam!-ing heads would explode.

20 RepliesI don't even tell people I'm a girl, I just use my Mic & talk like a regular person. When you do that people don't freak out and make it a big deal & treat you normal. Except on COD, it's cancer & a horrible community
-
People can do what they like.I don't say it because if it's real life, they already know I'm a girl and if it's online they probably already know I'm a gamer,so saying both at any time is pretty redundant. When gaming I don't make a point of it unless someone asks.I've gotten to the point of caring so little that I don't correct people for using the wrong pronouns, unless my gender is actually relevant to the conversation at hand.
-
This is kinda overly PC nonsense. Of course a person is just a person we're all equal. But it's just a fact of life that a majority of gamers are male. Therefore being a "gamer girl" is unusual. Not unheard of and very welcome to game, but it's unusual. So saying gamer girl or female gamer is nothing more than descriptive
-
I don't give a damn who or what you are. As long as you aren't a prick, and can kick some ass in multiplayer...we should get along just fine.

OP is white knight confirmed.

3 RepliesI hate it when people call them self "gamers" it's just kinda a cringey word. It's such a horrible thing to call yourself. E.G. "what's your favorite hobby?" "I'm a gamer." *looks at you like you murdered someone* "so you're on of those?"

16 RepliesI never flaunt that I'm a girl. But it is always assumed that I'm not. I just casually correct them. crudely usually.

It's whatever.
-
I don't care if they do or don't. It doesn't affect me.
-
They say it because they think I'll go easy on them
not bloody likely
-
5 RepliesIt actually does matter. Females tend to be far worse at video games than males. It lets you know who you don't want on your team.

9 RepliesI started with Nintendo with games like legend of Zelda, then moved onto Xbox and that's where it became like a big thing if you played videogames and were a girl. (Then again N64 game cube and wii didn't have mics)
-
Personally like 95% of the girls I know play games on a console so maybe the others should call themselves non-gamer girls
