He was eager to play this Free Update.
He wouldn't stop going on and on about how awesome it is that Bungie would produce free content of this caliber for its players.
That is...until he fully understood the terms. Now he keeps saying that the update is not free. I tried to explain to him that the update is 100% free, But you just have to purchase TTK.
He just doesn't seem to get it. The update is free, you just have to buy something else to play it. It's that simple.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Edit: Ok so I just thought that I would say, I don't actually have a friend that complains to me about this update. I was just poking fun at another thread where the OP was claiming that the update is completely 100% free and that we should stop complaining, because we paid $0 for it.
The reality of the situation is that this update is absolutely free, with your purchase of TTK.

1 ReplyIkr, ppl have to also buy a console as well as the game. AND a TV or monitor. AND an internet connection. AND electricity.. ...and they call it free!!!! The cheek of it!!!
-
For me it's 100% free :)
-
*yawn*
-
it's a 'gift with purchase' deal. not really free, but for those of is who already bought the actual item (TTK) months ago, it may as well be. anyone who hasn't yet taken the plunge still needs to make the actual purchase to get the 'free gift'.
-
I had a free lunch today, after I'd brought my lunch
-
I never bought GTA V. Where are my free GTA V updates?
-
Did your hypothetical bud hypothetically buy TTK? Wait, hold on! I'm starting to see why you needed a hypothetical friend to make this "point".
-
Yea it's free for ttk players only. Basically we already paid for it with the ttk purchase. It's not free if you don't have the base requirements i.e. taken King expansion.
-
1 ReplySo your friend expects a free update to an expansion that he never purchased... The stupidity on this board never disappoints. I'm guessing it's another whiny teenager
-
If you don't have TTK you made the choice in September to no longer have access to any new content. Yes it was unfair that the old content got taken away, but you can't expect to get the new content without some sort of investment
-
Look, anyone who doesn't have TTK shouldn't even play the game anymore. There is absolutely no reason. If anyone is serious enough to benefit from the update, they would have TTK.
-
By that logic, you have to buy a ps4 or Xbox to play Destiny.
-
It's not a free update to destiny. It's a free update to the taken King. A separate purchase altogether.
-
5 RepliesGo to school kid. Ask your teach why you're such an idiot.
-
No it's FREE if you buy TTK Kappa
-
I'm pretty sure it's an update to the taken King and not vanilla destiny. Which makes sense! A lot!!
-
Oh man, poor soul. Down with Bungie, am I right? *sarcasm*
-
2 RepliesIt's just a buy one get one free situation. Has no one ever been grocery shopping?
-
Nothing is ever free
-
If your friend thinks he can play content that requires level 40 to begin with then he just needs to stop.
-
Well the update is "taken based" so why would he think he'd get it? Lol
-
This update was not included in the original (that's a very important word there) purchase of TTK. TTK was the expansion. This update was an afterthought, that is only compatible with the TTK version. It is no ADDITIONAL cost to those who have already purchased TTK. You had to have TDB in order to play HoW. You had to have the base game (vanilla) in order to play TDB. The only difference here is that you don't have to pay for it since you already have, whereas with previous "additions" to the game you had to throw money at your screen in order to continue playing it. That said, nothing in life is 100% free. Calling this update "free" is like calling a lunch out with a client "free". Sure they're getting a free lunch, but you're billing it back to your company and eventually it's coming from the client's pocket.

8 RepliesBut, let's consider this. Your friend, has no understanding of the lore since he has never played TTK. So he has no idea what the -blam!- the Taken are to his in game character. Do you know how messed up it would be, taking this from a story/lore stand point to go from, "Ah, I just killed Crota but alas! There's these weird Taken shit in the... Prison of Elders? And... they are mad because I killed their Master Oryx??? Wut??? WHO was mad at me for killing his son... and wait, where the -blam!- is the Queen at?" It makes perfect sense to me why this is only available for TTK owners.
-
Omg you have to buy a game to make a character so making a character isnt free .....
-
It's free in the fact that you already paid for TTK and they don't owe you shit past that.

4 RepliesOmg so sick of this... how t he -blam!- is this different from any other game you play with free updates?? You obviously have to own said game in order to enjoy the content. World of Warcraft usually has 3-4 big patches per expansion that increase gear levels, add dungeons/raids weapons and all that jazz... and guess-fukin-what.. I have to have bought the most recent expansion in order to enjoy the free updates. Get the dick out of your butt and stop with the stupid bullshit. Buying a game is how you gain access to the content it has to offer. If you don't want to buy that game then you don't get access to that content. I didn't buy the Division.. when they announce a free update should I come to the forums and bitch that it's not really free because in order to experience it I'm gonna have to buy the damn game?
