Was it right for my teacher to give me ISS? Simply because I didn't stand for a minuet?

Honestly just stand. You may think its stupid but its better than to argue. Hell you dont even have to say the montra, just stand.
-
Yes cause you're a lil bîtch

As a cousin from across the pond, I find it all very cult-ish and a little bit like brainwashing.
but what do I know
1 ReplyWhen I listen to a minuet I'm usually sitting.

I never stand in the morning for the pledge. It is my right not to. Now before you say "that's disrespectful to those who died defending that flag!" They also died for my right to exercise my first amendment rights of free speech. I'm not ungrateful for that. I simply believe there are better ways to show respect to the boys in uniform that standing for 30 seconds and reciting something that in the end no one really cares about.
I except to get hate. Whatever.
1 ReplyEdited by ridgeback506413: 3/8/2016 12:48:43 AMAm I the only person who thinks it is weird that your school says the pledge during second period? Shouldn't it be first period or home room? Edit: found one other person who thought it was weird enough to comment on. Edit2: here's a good summary of US law on the topic http://www.cnn.com/2013/09/04/us/pledge-of-allegiance-fast-facts/ I'm a little surprised that requiring it was ruled unconstitutional in 1943 (at least for religious objections) and I didn't see any case overturning that.

I almost forgot the pledge. Haven't done it since elementary school. I'm a senior now

As a 12 yr vet who got out due to disabilities, i feel like my opinion on this matter might have a little more weight than the keyboard warriors who seem to be responding in droves. To put it simply, no, you shouldnt have gotten ISS for not standing for the pledge. I, and millions of others who have served this country, and still are serving, have done so so that each and every person in this country of ours is garaunteed the freedom from all forms of oppression. Basically, we serve so you can express yourself however you like, as long as it doesnt directly interfere with anothers right to do the same. Does that make you a dick for not standing up for the pledge? Not at all. You have that freedom. Thats your right to free speech. And as a matter of fact, i would bring that up to your school and press the issue. By giving you ISS, theyre indirectly suppressing your free speech. You didnt infringe upon anyone by not standing up.

15 RepliesFirst, your stupid because you can't spell minute, second, it's not hard to stand up for the pledge.

2 RepliesYou were being a prick so yes. Stand up and show some respect, it's kids like you that make me afraid for the next generation. You need an ass beating and some discipline because when you get to the real world, you'll be chewed up, spit out, and be on welfare. People like me will have to support you. And when you have kids, they'll be even more -blam!-ed up than you. You need someone to hold you accountable for your ignorant actions, I hope you stay in ISS

5 RepliesThere's troops right now far away from their families so you can have this freedom of being a little prick. The least you can do is show them and the rest of us veterans some respect. You're probably just some spoiled kid that never got more than 2 inches away from your mom's tit anyways.

20 RepliesEdited by Smarkdow: 3/6/2016 9:42:55 PMNo, it wasn't right for you to be punished, and the law is on your side. The Supreme Court decided this issue 70 years ago; public schools cannot compel students to participate or recite the pledge. Doing so is a violation of the First Amendment. I suggest you or your parents complain to the school to overturn your suspension. Or if that doesn't work contact a local ACLU chapter or other organization that deals with this sort of thing.

Focus on school you -blam!-
-
No your teacher shouldn't have given you ISS. I would like to remind everyone that the first amendment exists and that the idea of pledging allegiance to a damn flag is profoundly stupid.

How does it hurt you to stand for 30 seconds?

If it was school policy then yes

Our school doesn't even have the pledge anymore. Unfortunately.
