I go on people's characters on the app and see that people have hundreds of thousands of kills on patrol and was wondering people's opinions on it. I never found patrol to be interesting I just found it repetitive.

2 RepliesThe demo. Idk about everyone else but when I was broke and needed $60, I wanted to play destiny. I played the demo because it was the closest thing I could get. Look at my Titan

OG loot cave ;)
-
It's just fun to mess around with friends in.
-
I personally really enjoy patrol, I find it relaxing.
-
338,274 kills on patrol!

1 ReplyYear one farming. TDB Knights. HoW key farming. TTK quests.
-
Guess you weren't here year one farming materials and loot caving
-
Loot cave
-
In the beginning patrolling was like 1 out of 2 things you could do lol
-
I have always thought the same thing. I find patrol beyond boring
-
Loot cave.

Man, it used to be how you completed bounties, the only way to level your factions which were actually rewarding
-
And public events used to matter.

Edited by KalSkirata77: 3/4/2016 8:12:13 PMI have always enjoyed patrol. No pressure killing aliens, doing bounties, doing patrol bounties, testing out new weapons, gathering materials and glimmer, public events.....I can go where I want and just casually enjoy the gameplay.
-
Used to be a way to get marks (or was it strange coins) during public events. Daily Bounties. Also something to do when I know life will be interrupting me. Being afk in the cosmodrome will only get me killed whereas on a strike or something... Not so cool to the others in the fire team.

It was a LOT more fun during HoW. That's why.
-
A pack of wolves are prowling. We could farm easy af engrams and treasure keys before HoW came out. I couldn't stand lootcave though
-
Patrol used to be essential to leveling and upgrading in Y1. Made redundant w light lvl.

3 RepliesIn year 1 you had to farm so many materials just upgrade your armor and guns even one time. Instead of just unlocking perks for guns like now, you were actually upping the guns damage level each time. I want to say you needed about 10 pieces of each material just to upgrade one time and had to do it 6 times, but I might be wrong as I have repressed this traumatic experience. Also, in order to complete the patrol bounties you had to actually do the patrol missions, whereas now you can complete those on accident just doing strikes or missions. (Shudders recalling year 1 grind, goes to happy place in loot cave)
-
Because people farm a lot
-
It's fun for noobs

I got a lot of patrol kills farming glimmer back when iron banner weapons and armor cost glimmer instead of marks. You would get to tank 5, then go kill stuff on patrol (or in VoG) to max out your glimmer and then go stick up on goodies from Salad in the tower. Sometimes doing this multiple times to get all the gear for all characters.
-
They probably did the loot cave. I tried it for maybe ten mins and was bored out of my mind.
-
Back in the day of the settlers my friend. Materials were scarce as our robo friend didn't sell them. We had to venture out on our own. Spending hours upon hours just so we had Enough materials for the week. Then you would rinse and repeat. Fin

Ye olde material grind. It was difficult early on In this game. HOW dropped and we spam killed and double dipped that whole public event deal trying to get keys. You see, we had to run Poe to get light for our gear. Basically, back when things were entirely different you simply had to run patrols.
