I go on people's characters on the app and see that people have hundreds of thousands of kills on patrol and was wondering people's opinions on it. I never found patrol to be interesting I just found it repetitive.

5 RepliesEdited by Roman: 3/5/2016 9:27:23 AMobviously not a day 1 player first of, those special assassinate target missions - were one of the best ways to get faction XP - drop on patrol, like Cosmodrome or Moon , check if you have one, orbit if you don't, rinse and repeat second, one of the best ways to earn XP was daily public event missions - there was a Vanguard bounty for completing 3 in 1 day - there was, maybe still is, a website that somewhat accurately, tracked unlicensed events - which gave us XP, and recently strange coins or notes of light - before a major DLC dropped, people like me would pile up these packages at our Postmaster to level characters, armor, weapons third, we used to have Vanguard bounty to earn 9000 XP w/o dying - fun to do in patrol while you are working on that faction rep, and exploring different areas while you are at it forth, we had missions to kill 2 enemies with 1 fusion rifle burst - a lot of people did in on patrol, or first mission on Moon "we've woken the Hive" and probably last one, major kills - used to have a bounty to kill so many majors of certain kind - back then, you could be waiting forever to complete this by playing Strikes because you could be doing Omnigul or Valus Taruc while having a Fallen or Vex majors bounty - highest XP and faction rep for these ah I knew it, I forgot one with every DLC Bungie would release there would be new enemies or packs of enemies that gave you grimoire and had special bounties to kill these little mini bosses only on Patrol - many times you had to wait a while for respawns - GoldKey farming, Husk of the Pit farming, Loot Cave variations all this is on Youtube

Back in the day you had to farm for materials. Back in the day you did bounties as that was the only way to level up guns and armour. Now we simply use motes of light to level our stuff. Levelling up Eris Morn also had a set of bounties that you needed to do in order to fully upgrade murmur.

Edited by WhatsKraken: 3/5/2016 5:22:48 PMI'll answer your question with a question. When did you join Destiny? Pre House of Wolves you could just go buy materials or have them drop as part of packages or from your ghost. If you needed 15 relic iron to upgrade that gun, you had to farm for it on Mars. Spent way to much time doing that stuff in the first 6-9 months this game was out. Edit: oh yeah, and best ways to level up weapons and armor was to complete bounties and patrol missions and VIP missions on patrol.

Back in the day when we farmed materials what else was there to do but kill on patrol?
-
Well. There were bounties. The moments of triumph. Exotic sword quest. Some patrol missions. The ether chests. The sword knights...

Edited by L SkyDropper: 3/5/2016 5:20:26 PMThat's because you weren't here probably for year one where we had to do patrol to get materials

Edited by Art Vandelay: 3/5/2016 4:58:05 PMAll those kills on patrol mode is the reason why those ashes are there in that cave on the Skywatch.

It's a day 1 thing
-
Year 1 bounties and farming materials.
-
Umm lets see: Lootcave, Urzok, material farming routes, etc. Ya know day one shit
-
Farming..
-
Well we used to have to go to the planets to farm for materials. So yeah...things died in the process.
-
1 ReplyWhen bounties were actually worth doing, patrols were huge! I did them all the time. Even if I had no bounties and farmed for materials, I spent hours a day doing patrols.
-
Probably y1 players that actually did patrol. There's hardly any reason to anymore
-
When did you start playing? Anyone who is from Y1 spent quite a bit of time in patrol during Y1. It used to be a fun social place to go, but is now mostly pointless...

Loot cave, RIP to all the millions of thrall murdered.
