This was the original title: The problem with SBMM and the lies modern developers are telling you.
Alright boys and girls and desticles of all ages sit down and put your thumbs in your mouths because what I'm about to tell you is going to have Bungie fan boys upset.
however many of those are left, I'm an ex one
What if I told you, the population is to blame for your connectivity issues? That's right. What? No, how DyeVine destiny sold millions?
Millions aren't playing this game anymore. Think about it guys, why do you think every modern game removed their population numbers? Call of duty, famous for always having them has even changed it to only the percent of players in each playlist, NOT the total population.
The simple answer is devs know people quit when they see dwindling numbers.
Now, onto the issue. Skill based matchmaking works completely fine when there is enough people to match you based on region. I'm from Alabama
sadly
and used to see tonssss of "roll tide this" "auburn tigers that" gamer tags. I want you guys to check your gts in the tower and come back to this post and tell me if you're seeing far less names that relate to your region. I have a hunch you will.
This is the source of our connections problems, players in matches are too far spread apart in the world/ U.S.

1 ReplyBungie? Isn't that the company that died with Halo? Whatever happened to those guys?
-
It is an interesting theory but you lack access to or any data to back it up. Not a bad string of logic though. Although I used to CoDMW2 all the time at odd hours for my region when it was dying and never had issues when I played with or against people across the globe. Had a great match with some guys from the middle east against a bunch of squeakers throwing anti-arab insults. Those guys slaughtered the squeakers.

I'm from Alabama :)

2 RepliesIronically ive seen more people from my region(illinois). Alot of people with chicago somewhere in their names.

3 RepliesThis is one of those posts that is purposely lacking in key information so that you can't really think of a way to argue with it, even though it's mainly bollocks. The main reason there's so much lag is because they use P2P, and not dedicated servers, because financially they obviously think it wasn't feasible. The issues always come back to money, if something is lower quality, it's usually because it'd cost them too much to make/use a better version... The lag you get now is more down to the match making and the P2P which is inevitable really... lag happens on most P2P games, some worse than others. It's really not going to change substantially either, I mean why pump money into some with diminishing value? When they can focus on Destiny 2.
-
1 ReplyThe people arguing against you obviously don't remember playing some of the older Halo games towards the end.

Edited by Barrier: 3/1/2016 6:05:29 PMWhat you say makes sense but not for my experience. I'm in NC & I have hardly ever met anyone in my area or region. Most of my friends list is filled with people far West & North. Seems a little far fetched

3 RepliesSo you're telling me there's not 11 other people in Florida playing control at the same time I am? What you say makes a lot of sense don't get me wrong I'm not contesting that. There's no reason the people in the US can't match up with people in the US.

If I play with my friends I get out in games with players with lower medal scores. People are on this game it's just SBMM only selecting a certain pool of players. That's what creates lag.

1 ReplyWell here is my theory. It is not the sole reason, but if we play with friends or clan that are spread out through out the country and continents we are already stretching the "line of connection" for CBMM. Since this a P2P connection my buddy in England maybe the host for that game and if all other players are from the US I can almost guarantee you that at least 1 if not several will red bar. Now throw in a factor, regardless of the percentage, for SBMM and you have a very complicated mess. I notice if I run solo I usually have better connection matches but when I am with a full fireteam we always have issues associated with lag. Sometimes it is severe sometimes not. Outside of not running dedicated servers, the only solution that I see is full CBMM but players need to also accept if you are with your buds that are thousands of miles away the match may lag because of it and to rework the damage referee as it has been nonexistent since it was implemented.

1 ReplyI get "hawksfan", "sounders4life", saw a guy called "Puget Hound". Nope, these seem right judging by me living in Washington. I'd say if I'm lagging, it's probably me.

Edited by InsectShelf3: 3/1/2016 4:28:26 PMYou have no idea how many people are playing. You're basing this off of a few people trying to b8 people on the forums. We're playing on p2p it will ALWAYS have a bunch of lag.

1 ReplyNumbers are dropping a lot more than we think, I've done a few strikes recently with just one other, the third spot never gets filled right to the end.
-
Numbers are dropping because it's been out for 6 months. Numbers go up when new content is released. Check the numbers in spring after the dlc. Lag will exist until we get dedicated servers.
-
6 RepliesI meet people from my actual city all the time. Literally people that I dont know that go to other highschools and such.
-
6 RepliesEdited by Dezzie19: 3/1/2016 1:39:53 PMThis guy gets it, they dont matchmake Americans with australians due to skill they do it out of necessity because the game's running out players.
-
I agree 100% with you. Lag is because we get paired up with folks across the world.
-
I have to agree Alabama does suck, best thing to come out of that state is Paul Finebaum's show
-
4 RepliesEdited by ExcessLensFlare: 3/1/2016 12:15:17 PMI get tons of people people from NZ all of the time... My theory as to why Destiny's matchmaking and lag has been up the duff recently is due to testing being done on Destiny 2 and they're borrowing servers that were previously reserved for Destiny 1.

1 ReplyEdited by Doctor Electric: 3/1/2016 4:27:41 AMI need a source of information, so I can see which super sleuth found out about the millions of players leaving games.

Edited by kimcheerocket: 3/1/2016 5:29:12 AMIt's possible. But I still see plenty of regional names in the tower, not so much crucible anymore.
