Edit 4: I deeply regret trying to have a conversation here. My goodness. Thanks for the trending though.
Edit 3: Cancer
Edit 2: Oh boy I didn't know this was trending. Thanks to some of you for not being.....ya know.
Edit: Ok, for everyone saying this is dumb because in real life things don't work this way, do I need to remind you that you are playing a video game where there are people that can shoot space magic out of their hands, defy gravity, and come back from the dead? Im asking you guys if this can work mechanically in THIS game. NOT in real life.
------------------------------------------
Ok before I even pitch this all I'm gonna say is please be gentle. I promise I'm not trying to say you're good or bad for sniping at close range blah blah blah git gud scrub etc. Just thought of an idea.
What if snipers in PvP Destiny had a mechanic where the farther away someone is the more damage your sniper will do, and the closer you are the less damage it will do? The idea would be that the farther away an opponent is the more momentum the bullet gains allowing it to hit targets farther out harder. This would make it less common to get sniped body shot and tapped to death at close range by snipers and reinforce that it's meant for longer range. This would also mean that res sniping at point blank range would be less effective and that you'd need shotguns more so for close range engagements. Do you guys think this could work MECHANICALLY in the game without making snipers a bad weapon choice?
Just wanted to toss that out and see what you guys thought with the hope you all don't turn me around and kick my ass out the door. At the very least couldn't this be a good idea for an exotic perk?
This would also mean that res sniping at point blank range would be less effective and that you'd need shotguns more so for close range engagements.
Yeah.. No... Double res shields and invincibility frames are bad enough even when you can shoot through the shields, a slight mistiming means your bullet does absolutely nothing. I've watched people survive supers during their invincibility frames and kill the guy who's in the super.
At the very least couldn't this be a good idea for an exotic perk?
What? How? No Edit:
you are playing a video game where there are people that can shoot space magic out of their hands, defy gravity, and come back from the dead?
So in the future we downgrade our weapons? Lmao no

5 RepliesMakes no sense. By this logic, I should be able to one shot someone with a hand cannon across the map.

1 ReplyYou argue it's a game by saying "Space Magic" but that isn't the answer to everything. Basic physics of firearms. You get more stopping power the closer you are to the muzzle. Friction from the air causes the projectile to slow down. Not every sniper rifle in the game has special properties that allows bullets to do miraculous things. The bullets have no propulsion of their own so why would they do progressively more damage further away than up close and personal?
-
Snipers need an aim assist and stability nerf like massivey. This game has become sniper elite 4
-
So the opposite of physics?
-
That's dumb...
-
Worst case scenario, people would end up camping more. Otherwise I wouldn't mind the change, although I don't snipe in PvP much.

29 RepliesIt would be stupid. Bullets don't gain velocity after they leave the barrel. Quit whining and coming up with ignorant "solutions"
-
2 RepliesActually the farther away you shoot from the more the bullet decelerates before impact
-
I like the idea, snipers are a long/medium range weapon. I can't snipe someone across the map with my pulse/hand cannon/shotty so why can you kill me at close range with a sniper?

1 ReplyNo. Its simply unfair to those that are extremely skilled with snipers to not be able to do close range shots. Honestly, If a skilled player headshots you from that range, they earned that kill luck or not.
-
All my close up kills are noscopes so no
-
12 RepliesLol arent you the same guy thats made like 3 other posts about how snipers shouldnt be used at close range? And each one of those posts go shut down completely?
-
1 Replyaim assist works even while shooting from the hip right?
-
10 RepliesBullets travel at a higher velocity when first fired. Your logic is invalid

Edited by slopat: 2/23/2016 11:31:25 PMThe just need flnch and sway as snipers have in all serious FPS, no need to create weird parameters. People wondre why Destiny will never be MLG, snipers are a prime example.
-
1 ReplyIt doesn't work like that
-
2 RepliesOnly to be killed by the rushing shotgunner? Ya.. Whipping out my sniper and quick scoping your sorry ass is definitely easier than charging with your shotgun. Lmao
-
14 RepliesEdited by Rojoemption: 2/23/2016 11:16:53 PMThat literally makes no sense. I know the game is supposed to be futuristic but why would a futuristic sniper do less damage at close range? I know what you're going for but it's simply too outlandish of an idea.
-
How are we supposed to noscope?
-
1 ReplyAnother stupid nerf sniper post. Snipers have not changed only thing that has is SBMM. Which means you are going up against higher skilled players. Higher skilled players miss headshots less often and do whatever they need to to make sure you die first. The weapons are balanced. SBMM is the problem. It should only be in ranked playlists not social lobbies where people are trying to have fun.
-
The only thing I see them needing is worse handling at close range targets.
-
I'm down.
