What if Snipers did Less Damage at Close Range?

Edit 4: I deeply regret trying to have a conversation here. My goodness. Thanks for the trending though. Edit 3: Cancer Edit 2: Oh boy I didn't know this was trending. Thanks to some of you for not being.....ya know. Edit: Ok, for everyone saying this is dumb because in real life things don't work this way, do I need to remind you that you are playing a video game where there are people that can shoot space magic out of their hands, defy gravity, and come back from the dead? Im asking you guys if this can work mechanically in THIS game. NOT in real life. ------------------------------------------ Ok before I even pitch this all I'm gonna say is please be gentle. I promise I'm not trying to say you're good or bad for sniping at close range blah blah blah git gud scrub etc. Just thought of an idea. What if snipers in PvP Destiny had a mechanic where the farther away someone is the more damage your sniper will do, and the closer you are the less damage it will do? The idea would be that the farther away an opponent is the more momentum the bullet gains allowing it to hit targets farther out harder. This would make it less common to get sniped body shot and tapped to death at close range by snipers and reinforce that it's meant for longer range. This would also mean that res sniping at point blank range would be less effective and that you'd need shotguns more so for close range engagements. Do you guys think this could work MECHANICALLY in the game without making snipers a bad weapon choice? Just wanted to toss that out and see what you guys thought with the hope you all don't turn me around and kick my ass out the door. At the very least couldn't this be a good idea for an exotic perk?

  • Logically speaking your idea is wrong too. Sniper bullets don't do less damage when first shot, in fact, it's the opposite; they are stronger and then the damage start getting weaker hence damage dropoff. So yeah, you are still the stupid one here. Not only is this idea stupid, but looking at this logically just doesn't make sense.

      • The problem with snipers isn't the damage they do, they are snipers, they should be damn powerful. The problem is how easy they are to use in ANY range, no other weapon is as effective in every range. Currently there are no drawbacks to using a sniper. The other issue is that all other secondary's are now useless thanks to countless nerfs.

          This community sucks on the forum. I don't agree with them nerfing snipers, but I respect your opinion.

          • I know make everything soft as a pillow. *Grenades replaced by marshmallows *Guns replaces by extra soft pillows *Heavy weapons replaced by soft squishy stuffed animals *special weapons replaced by water balloons. Get rid of anything that kills and replace with above and play tag.

                            • Honestly, best way to fix snipers is take out all short range scopes and add more flinch in general but add super flinch when taking crit dmg from weapon in their peak range. So if im hitting you cross map with an auto you will get the same flinch as now. But if I'm in it's effective range dropping shots on you, than you're dead unless you can evade and switch to a primary.

                            • Only thing they need to do to balance out the OHK potential from snipers is when ever a sniper gets hit pop them out of ADS, that's all. To many times I have a sniper so low a fart would kill him and he gets that last lucky shot off. But a sniper should be able to OHK and two body shot you.

                            • Your argument is that this should happen because Space Magic, but the gun physics in this game are very solid and throwing something like this in would ruin Bungie's wonderful skills. They might not be perfect, but their gun physics are fine and make sense.
