Just read Deej's latest post and it seems that skill based match making is out the window in favour of connection based.
I've been trying to get my friends into playing some pvp recently as they hated it last year. They are still finding their feet, trying to discover what guns to use etc, and now here they are about to get demolished and demoralised one again.
Why?
Because, as usual, Bungie only listen to their friends and the elite Twitch steamers.
I've read many threads by these people complaining about how their games are a grind now that they are matched up to people of equal skills and how they DEMAND to be able to go into a match and just enjoy themselves by destroying all they see.
People complained about the lag. I'm not sure I noticed a massive difference to be truthful. All I ask is for my weapons to cause the same damage as others using the same thing.
As usual, we'll have to wait and see how this plays out, but it's getting to the tipping point now fellas. Carry on pandering to the minority and you will finally finish this game for the people who pay your bills.
Edit: To the people who are asking how a noob can get better if (s)he's not being challenged by going against good players.
Answer me this. By your own logic, how can good players get better if they are going up against noobs?
Surely playing people of similar and slightly better ability is what you are looking for.
Do you really think shooting fish in barrels improves your angling skills?
Second edit: well, I still have a good memory of all the whining that occurred prior to SBMM happening. The amount of hated directed to bungie at every iron banner.
It would appear from reading the comments that red bars was never an issue during CBMM.
I hope you all remember this thread when it goes back. Can't wait for all these no red bar, no lag games during next week's IB.
Let's just see shall we.

2 RepliesYes - and the same time Professor Broman (The Same qball picked to stream TTK) is tweeting how excited he is about The Division beta a couple of Saturday's ago.
-
Your friends should be happy. Now they can actually play with you and not get stomped out.
-
Still see the same lag as before and damage ref seems pointless same ol crap bungie, thanks.
-
This game has been about PvP since the start. All PvE gets are Nerfs to weapons because of PvP bitching, and Raid fixes because players found ways to make them less time consuming.

3 RepliesFace lag or G-I-T G-U-D

You are mad at the wrong people. You SHOULD be mad at by bungie for releasing a major title and not having DEDICATED SERVERS.

You should be mad at bungie for not having dedicated servers.

The connections are terrible that's why they changed the matchmaking. Oh ya most people aren't good they just roll with a stacked team cross firing from multiple angles
-
2 RepliesYeah all the complaining about constant Red Bars wasn't really too consistent with my own playtime. Sure, there were always a very small number of horrendous laggers(1/20+ games), but that is to be expected. So they should make a system where you are placed in a ranked game every other game you play. So it woulf go SBMM Match->CBMM Match-->SBMM Match... etc.
-
8 RepliesGuess you missed the boat completely. It was about lag, always. I'm no elite and I'll forever want CBMM.
-
5 RepliesI suck and I'm glad skill based match making is going out the window! It allows me to get better at the game instead of playing against bad players 24/7, when I could be getting better by playing against better people by having to play smarter, harder and more thoughtfully.

6 RepliesEdited by Tango [DVX]: 2/25/2016 4:20:08 PMelite players left in year 1. your statement is false.

Before: OMG SBMM why bungie?!? Do you hate us? The connection sucks! TAKE IT AWAY NOW! After: Why'd you guys take away SBMM?!? Now us casuals are going to be destroyed by good players.. All because good connection?!? Good one bungie you really messed up this time.

Quit bitching and just play the game. Or don't. Either way, we don't give a damn
-
I have like a 1.0 kd, and I prefer connection based match making. Running into a super skilled player who ruled a match is rare. Right now running into 3-4 red bars between two teams is common.
-
Edited by Oswinyy: 2/25/2016 3:06:09 PMYou make it sound like connection based matchmaking consists solely of teams of 6 MLG players vs a team of solo randoms without thumbs. Please. The issue with SBMM is that it was active everywhere. Funnily enough people don't want to go against people trying the hearts out 24/7 with Thorns. Connection based matchmaking in social playlists is perfectly acceptable, if someone is better than you, tough luck. They're better than you. If you want a very strictly skill based experience, go and tell Bungie to make a ranked playlist.

Wrong argument. We should just wish for custom games.
-
I'm tired of bungie just listening to streamers only. They get shoutout every 2-3 times a week. They will eventually run out of pple to shout out. Except they haven't shout out wish you luck lmao thy been avoiding him lol

This game has always had some form of SBMM. They are just walking back the changes they made in December. While I didn't have lag problems in regular crucible, I've seen a lot more lag problems in IB this week. So a better balance between skill and connection speed was needed. It is not fun trying to play against people of your own skill or better when they are teleporting around the map, not taking damage (even from supers. Had 2 guys tank a direct NB hit last night) or having serious delays before damage registers.

To have skill based matchmaking in a game without dedicated servers? Cmon now , and nobody wants to be sweaty 24/7
-
I thought it was S&C based now
-
Dude, with the skill based was very easy the matches with noobs vs pros. Just give the leader to your "k/d 0.3" friend and ta-da! They couldn't do anything.

Can't protect casuals at the cost of function. That killed Battlefront right out the gate.

6 RepliesLet me just say, SBMM is to your advantage. Since a lot of people have a KD around yours. You may not be getting people from overseas. I play with a buddy whose KD is 1.7 amd we'd always gey matched up with red bars. In the beginning of TTK, SBMM was fun. My KD raised to 1.07-8 and I struggle to get into matches. And when I do get into matches, I fave people in Germany, UK, France, Brazil, Spain and Korea.. Do you understand how frustrating that is? I can care less about going against higher skilled players. Because higher skilled players can still be killed. But red bars, take a little more work to kill.

How can ANYONE get better with the lag as awful as its been? Only reason I was still playing was for PvP, but once the connections started to get more and more awful I stopped.
-
Well, iron banner is here and om not seeing much lag. Seems to do the job.
