Just read Deej's latest post and it seems that skill based match making is out the window in favour of connection based.
I've been trying to get my friends into playing some pvp recently as they hated it last year. They are still finding their feet, trying to discover what guns to use etc, and now here they are about to get demolished and demoralised one again.
Why?
Because, as usual, Bungie only listen to their friends and the elite Twitch steamers.
I've read many threads by these people complaining about how their games are a grind now that they are matched up to people of equal skills and how they DEMAND to be able to go into a match and just enjoy themselves by destroying all they see.
People complained about the lag. I'm not sure I noticed a massive difference to be truthful. All I ask is for my weapons to cause the same damage as others using the same thing.
As usual, we'll have to wait and see how this plays out, but it's getting to the tipping point now fellas. Carry on pandering to the minority and you will finally finish this game for the people who pay your bills.
Edit: To the people who are asking how a noob can get better if (s)he's not being challenged by going against good players.
Answer me this. By your own logic, how can good players get better if they are going up against noobs?
Surely playing people of similar and slightly better ability is what you are looking for.
Do you really think shooting fish in barrels improves your angling skills?
Second edit: well, I still have a good memory of all the whining that occurred prior to SBMM happening. The amount of hated directed to bungie at every iron banner.
It would appear from reading the comments that red bars was never an issue during CBMM.
I hope you all remember this thread when it goes back. Can't wait for all these no red bar, no lag games during next week's IB.
Let's just see shall we.

1 ReplyWell you're in luck mate because crucible is still SKILL BASED MATCHMAKING, it's pretty fcking obvious
-
7 RepliesDay 3 of IB and people are bitching about lag in CBMM. It's almost like lag has been an issue no matter what's the priority. Who knew?
-
1 ReplyIts the KD. Without KD there's nothing to work for and players will leave. So Bungie is keeping it protected so that the players will stay. It's like money, it's fake and doesn't mean anything. Yet we all believe in it so it works and so do we lol
-
2 RepliesAnswer to your first edit: good players already went through the process of going against better players than themselves. That's the nature of improving in a social PvP setting. The design of SBMM only can strongly be debated (no leagues/incentive/rewards for people to play such intense games, inability to play with friends of different skill level, no split ranked (SBMM) and social matchmaking) but at the current moment destinys connections don't allow SBMM. It's extremely evident.

6 RepliesEdited by B3ar: 2/25/2016 8:32:59 PMCBMM is a priority, SBMM is not completely eliminated. And it should be completely eliminated. You can't have damage referee and any bit of SBMM. They can't coexist. Players are red bar because of their location, they don't have a choice. So by focusing completely on connection these players aren't subject to completely awful bullet registration games. Right now SBMM is still in effect just not as significant. Don't view it as a slaughter, if SBMM remains a factor you will get beaten far worse because damage referee will dominate your game play sessions.
-
2 RepliesSkill based matchmaking is still in the game. It just favors connection, which I don't think works half the time.
-
Elite my ass skill cap is onley so high
-
Destiny relies on connection from Player to Player. Until they integrate dedicated servers, CBMM is logical in being the priority.
-
5 RepliesThey didn't say there's no skill based matchmaking, just that it was mostly connection based. I play with my partner who is hugely better than me and I get pummelled, I play alone I'm top of the board. So there is some skill based, but focused on connection. It's quite nice.
-
CBMM is much better than SBMM. Better connections, I can play casual when I want, if I wanted to improve I would be vsing people in sweats not a game of pubs and dedicated players>casual players
-
3 RepliesThis of course coming from a trashkid with a 0.89KD who has to match people as equally trash as you are to get that KD and would be even worse if you faced people with actual skill

I'm a scrub and I hate sbmm... If I lose a fair gun fight (no lag), so be it. I can't compete against someone I can't damage due to latency
-
Connection based is exactly how it should be, unless you were somehow.....abusing the lag
-
Destiny is living proof of the phrase "you can't please everybody".
-
I'm not a crucible elite, but I'm better than my KD shows, I play objectives, and die doing it if needed. I can go 29 kills in clash on a good day and 7 on a bad one...I hated SBMM, I was either in games with 11 people who were clearly sightseeing, or in super sweaty matches. Couldn't play with my friends, as they're elites.. Would only get paired in matches with 11 elites and me...couldn't even find someone to shoot at before they either died or sniped me. Now, those guys are spread out, a few per match, and yeah, they might win, but at least there aren't 6 of them.

2 RepliesThe crucible player base in terms of skill is like a triangle (with the lowest skill base at the base and the higher skill at the tip). The problem is that as long as you are in the low skill bracket, you will have a large number of possible opponents hence a greater chance of being matched to someone in your region (thus lower possible lag). The higher your skill level, the lower the possible number of opponents get and the further apart from you (in geographical terms). This means that the top 10% will feel the brunt of the lag because their opponents will be fewer in number and have a greater geographical spread. This is why they are complaining and it is a legitimate claim. I am in no way supporting them but I feel where they are coming from. My KD hovers around 1.5 (give or take) and I am by no means an elite player, let alone a good one. Even then, I face, on a good day, at least 3-4 red bar players. On top of that they are immortal. And it really sucker-punches your experience. I usually don't rage but the lag induces it. My internet connection is fast and I have a ping of <9ms.
-
I'm anything but elite, and SBMM sucked IMO.
-
As a solo player, SBMM was constantly putting me against teams that would walk over my team full of randoms. There was no balance in it at all. Now that they went back to CBMM I'm being put in lobbies that have pretty well balanced teams.
-
I'm average, maybe slightly above average when I really try, and I would much rather get stomped once in a while than get killed because the guy I was shooting took no damage and then promptly give me a post mortem 2-3 seconds after I died...
-
I think there's a bit of skill based. My skills are improving steadily, but I do damn well when I'm playing alone. As soon as I partner up with my partner I can't manage a kill most of the time. He's in a higher skill bracket. So I think there is at least a bit of skill based in there
-
1 ReplyI'd rather get killed by a skilled player than a teleporting, glitching, cheap scrub. Nuff said.
-
4 Repliesas a poor to avg pvp player, I would rather know that the shots I do make are landing and doing damage and the kills I know I shold make are happening as opposed to the few opportunities that I get to kill an opponent are squashed by some laggy douche canoe.. sorry but, I have to agree with this one.. connection based ensures playing against equally connected players so we all experience the same game play.. you just have to learn to get better..

Edited by diddy2783: 2/25/2016 11:54:43 PMNot elite. Hates SBMM.

You realize of course that half the time the monster player is going to be on your team.
