UPDATE: In the weekly update last week bungie announced some more information about the spring update stating that it will feature "a significant Light increase, a bunch of new gear to earn and equip, and new challenges for PvE players seeking some more fun experiences and replayability."
PVE Focus
Light Increase
New Gear
Replayability
In light of this new information how do you think the queen's return theory holds up? I think it fares pretty well!
Original Post: 2/5/16
This spring we're getting an update that bungie described as the biggest update that destiny has received since the Taken King, basically the only thing we know about it is that it's notably bigger than SRL, but it's also a live team event so there's no way it will be a DLC level expansion, with that in mind, here is my theory about what the spring event will be.
The Queen's Return
The Queen is back, and It's time again to settle some old scores.
The "King" is dead, and the Queen is back! It's time to strike out at the enemies of the reef to remind them once again which royalty they should really fear. It's time to take it to the taken, and every other army that threatens the system.
- Year one strikes are BACK, upgraded with proper year two light levels and taken versions, and added into Heroic and Nightfall rotation.
- Vault of Glass is BACK with new, year 2 VoG legendary gear, and new light level 310 hard difficulty.
- Crota's End is BACK with new, year 2 CE legendary gear, and a new light level 310 hard difficulty.
- New light level 280 Prison of Elders.
- The return of the "Queen's Wrath" event with new "Kill Order" Challenge Modes for specific bosses in VoG, CE, PoE, and Strikes.
- Brand new exclusive "Queen's Return" gear to earn.
- 8 exciting "new" exotics (you know, those 8 that have been in game and inaccessible since TTK)
Why is this my theory?
Because frankly, bringing these old raids and strikes up to year 2 is LONG overdue, and the only reason imaginable for them not doing so at this point is that they are saving it for a special event. It is the largest, most substantial chunk of content that they could release for the game with the the smallest amount of effort, and it makes the most sense for a large scale release that is not DLC.
There are other considerations of course, there's a strange heavy exotic that is in the database, there are certain items in the database that go up to 330 light, perhaps we'll see something from those, but this amount of content would already be a pretty substantial release. We'll probably see an update to the visuals of the reef, or the queen will come visit the tower for 3 weeks with some emissaries, which could result in a decorated tower over the course of the event, but bringing this much content up to date is going to be a lot of work, so I would imagine we won't see as much new stuff as we saw in SRL.
What are you guy's thoughts? Is this likely? Unlikely? Is there something else you would like to see this spring instead?
EDIT:
Here is the quote in question from the Bungie Weekly Update on 12/10/15
The first of these early 2016 experiences will be on a scale close to Festival of the Lost. The second will be far larger than anything you’ve seen since the release of The Taken King. There’s also another significant update to the world and sandbox planned in this same window.
Far larger.
EDIT 2:
Additional information from Weekly Update 2/11/16:
Prior to the holiday break we mentioned a second, larger update slated for Spring. That content release will feature a significant Light increase, a bunch of new gear to earn and equip, and new challenges for PvE players seeking some more fun experiences and replayability.
Beyond that, the team is focused on delivering a large expansion later this year, and a full Destiny sequel in 2017.
1 ReplyThat's way too big for a simple update bro

2 RepliesIm thinking we will be getting a new week long event in the the spring call Crimson Triples!!?! It just like Trials but its called Crimson Triples!!! And some new motes too. And a passage book as well to keep track of your wins. The passage book is just like a Trials passage card, the only difference is it cost 1000 silver instead of 100 glimmer. Cant wait!!!

Edited by Ghosto Rosso: 2/7/2016 12:34:56 AMIf this happened I would literally fall to my knees and call out: HALLELELUYAHH! PRAISE THE LORD FOR ENDING THE GERAT CONTENT DROUGHT!!!

This..... Would be.... AMAZING PLEASE BUMP THIS TO NO END THIS WOULD BE AWESOME

5 RepliesFar larger, they promised. They also promised better matchmaking. Old gear not being forgotten. Better PVE. Better meta. They promised to hear the community and go clear in new info. Promised they would give good free content (related to microtransactions). That the items people datamined, related to microtransactions, regarding leveling, would never be in the game. I'd love to see what you said in the game. But, no. It won't happen.

1 ReplySomething big is coming in the next update, and it's a new type of lag. This will enhance your crucible experience like nothing you've ever played before. Giving your opponents the taken thrall teleport ability was just a taste, git gud skrub. So Bungie spiced things up after with invisible wall penetrating bullets. Nothing is more sweeter than seeing your opponent kill you from across the map through 5 walls. When that wasn't enough, they added RNG deaths. Take a wrong step and Misadventure will backhand that ass. With this update, the lag will be sooooo good, all the electronics in your home will go back in time for 3 hours. This is the ultimate skill. Predict where your opponent will be and shoot. If you guessed right, you will receive the kill in your next game. If you're wrong, hasta la vista baby, dead. The strong will separate from the weak, the skilled from the shitty. Destiny, where your skills will be tested to the extreme.

7 RepliesI really like this idea! I'd love a new prison of elders setting where you are facing the usual enemies and the taken randomly spawn in. Or, you are almost done taking down a boss and he gets "taken". Following this, taken spawn in the area along with a taken boss. This would make the arena viable again and unpredictable
-
1 ReplyWhat if it was a huge list of nerfs and buffs?
-
1 ReplyBump for awesome ideas

6 RepliesA theory is a tested hypothesis. This is not that. I am sorry. Also according to a decent number of forum goers bungie stated that the engine couldn't support 4 endgame modes. I have not looked it up personally so it's up to you to confirm, deny, or ignore it.
-
No that's a good idea so bungie obviously won't use it
-
Sad that it won't happen. Or any pve update for that matter. Truth hurts.

2 RepliesI don't get why people want both the old raids and PoE updated... well I do... but I don't think they are thinking everything through... now I will admit with everything available dropping end game usable items... every activity was worth completing... but that is a dual edged sword... quite frankly.. I felt stressed and rushed to comple 3x VoG 3x Crota and 9x PoE.... if I didn't complete one... I felt like I failed for the week... I agree that just three HM + challenges on KFs which we currently have isn't enough... bringing EVERYTHING up to date is not the answer.. rotating one of them a week would be okay but well all know why bungie hasn't done that and will not... so yeah... that's where that kinda ends

3 RepliesOne thing is missing, CUSTOM MATCHES AND A FORGE LOBBY(forge would be called simulation, created by your ghost and ghosts can connect allowing you to create virtual reality map alone or with friends these can transfer to custom games as way

10 RepliesEdited by Galactic Zones: 2/6/2016 2:19:37 PMI'm not keen on having to re-grind the old raids to acquire year 2 versions of the gear that I had the first time around. Give us a raid weapons and armor kiosk in the tower so we can automatically upgrade from there. That'd be fine.

1 ReplyNot happening
-
1 ReplyAny fukking content will be "next biggest since taken king" because there hasn't been any bloody content since then.
-
12 RepliesThat would be nice, but no

1 ReplyHere is what I would prefer snippet from the grimoire “Welcome back, Master.” The one closest to him spoke first, and the others followed, a wave of salutations echoed throughout the dry sea. And with that hope returned. “Begin repairs on the ship immediately. Something has gone missing and you will help me find it.” We assist in the search for the queen even if Bungie re use assets from story missions and strikes repopulate them with taken etc we get a continuing story arc and pve content sprinkle in some black spindle like hidden side missions for year one exotic weapons release these at periods until they release the supposed lager content patch and I will be happy

2 RepliesEdited by Elephant Head Saphy: 2/6/2016 5:09:25 PMIf it is likely it will be a Dlc that would cost the same if not more than The Taken King. Or a Playstation exclusive.

1 ReplyLook at you, still having hopes for this game. Adorable
-
2 RepliesIt's nice to dream, but idk if they'll actually add that much. I hope they do something similar to this, but that's what I do every time Bungie releases content. Nonetheless, I'm always disappointed.

1 ReplyPlease have this happen! Along with bringing up old Y1 exotics
