UPDATE: In the weekly update last week bungie announced some more information about the spring update stating that it will feature "a significant Light increase, a bunch of new gear to earn and equip, and new challenges for PvE players seeking some more fun experiences and replayability."
PVE Focus
Light Increase
New Gear
Replayability
In light of this new information how do you think the queen's return theory holds up? I think it fares pretty well!
Original Post: 2/5/16
This spring we're getting an update that bungie described as the biggest update that destiny has received since the Taken King, basically the only thing we know about it is that it's notably bigger than SRL, but it's also a live team event so there's no way it will be a DLC level expansion, with that in mind, here is my theory about what the spring event will be.
The Queen's Return
The Queen is back, and It's time again to settle some old scores.
The "King" is dead, and the Queen is back! It's time to strike out at the enemies of the reef to remind them once again which royalty they should really fear. It's time to take it to the taken, and every other army that threatens the system.
- Year one strikes are BACK, upgraded with proper year two light levels and taken versions, and added into Heroic and Nightfall rotation.
- Vault of Glass is BACK with new, year 2 VoG legendary gear, and new light level 310 hard difficulty.
- Crota's End is BACK with new, year 2 CE legendary gear, and a new light level 310 hard difficulty.
- New light level 280 Prison of Elders.
- The return of the "Queen's Wrath" event with new "Kill Order" Challenge Modes for specific bosses in VoG, CE, PoE, and Strikes.
- Brand new exclusive "Queen's Return" gear to earn.
- 8 exciting "new" exotics (you know, those 8 that have been in game and inaccessible since TTK)
Why is this my theory?
Because frankly, bringing these old raids and strikes up to year 2 is LONG overdue, and the only reason imaginable for them not doing so at this point is that they are saving it for a special event. It is the largest, most substantial chunk of content that they could release for the game with the the smallest amount of effort, and it makes the most sense for a large scale release that is not DLC.
There are other considerations of course, there's a strange heavy exotic that is in the database, there are certain items in the database that go up to 330 light, perhaps we'll see something from those, but this amount of content would already be a pretty substantial release. We'll probably see an update to the visuals of the reef, or the queen will come visit the tower for 3 weeks with some emissaries, which could result in a decorated tower over the course of the event, but bringing this much content up to date is going to be a lot of work, so I would imagine we won't see as much new stuff as we saw in SRL.
What are you guy's thoughts? Is this likely? Unlikely? Is there something else you would like to see this spring instead?
EDIT:
Here is the quote in question from the Bungie Weekly Update on 12/10/15
The first of these early 2016 experiences will be on a scale close to Festival of the Lost. The second will be far larger than anything you’ve seen since the release of The Taken King. There’s also another significant update to the world and sandbox planned in this same window.
Far larger.
EDIT 2:
Additional information from Weekly Update 2/11/16:
Prior to the holiday break we mentioned a second, larger update slated for Spring. That content release will feature a significant Light increase, a bunch of new gear to earn and equip, and new challenges for PvE players seeking some more fun experiences and replayability.
Beyond that, the team is focused on delivering a large expansion later this year, and a full Destiny sequel in 2017.
I think they will release known content periodically, beginning with the exotic 50 calcified fragment gun in a minor update like NTTE or SS, then simultaneously release the remaining exotics along with the Phogoth heroic strike for the Helm of Marok hunter helmet, then progressively later in the fall we will see 330 weapons and gear, culminating in a potential "Queen's Return" event which will add minor story elements and loosely set a premise for Destiny 2 in Spring 2017
-
I agree with this theory. The specifics might vary by a lot, but I do think the update will probably be on this scale in terms of "largeness."

I know all of the thirsty pre-teen boys are going to hate me for this, but… she's dead. You can't jack it to a video game anymore. Sorry.

Edited by DocDoom: 2/7/2016 4:15:16 AMThis sounds great. But all of the money made from emotes is for other stuff, so this kind of thing, what we actually want, would be about $30-40.
"Bungie Logic"
Edited by MGKIVXX: 2/7/2016 3:14:10 AMYour theory about the queen seems like it makes the most sense for the next big dlc.. but I don t think it will be as grand as your vision. Id love all that but we would be lucky to get 50% of what you listed

Edited by DeathChicken121: 2/7/2016 3:08:09 AMI really hope you are right this will make this game everything I wanted

Nothing since TTK has been large. At all. Pretty much anything could be called "far larger." I wish, but it won't happen.
-
Bungie. Fire all your writers and idea eggheads and hire this guy/girl on the payroll ASAP.
-
I have been wanting this for so long. With the release of the Taken King, all raids/strikes from year 1 have become obsolete and become pointless for new players to complete them. If this was a thing, everything would come full circle for everyone.
-
Love the optimism. It would be a huge success if only 5% of this happens.

3 RepliesYou, sir, need to shut your mouth. How dare you have good ideas here.

2 RepliesEdited by IceIllex: 2/7/2016 1:09:55 AMI thought it was pretty stupid that the first part of TTK was the awoken fight against oryx and the queen going missing. This gave us incentive to want to kill oryx and rescue/find her. But the original ttk missions had nothing about finding her except a few short bounties from Petra saying she may or may not be alive. It's another unfinished story like the stranger at the end of vanilla. We still don't know much about the stranger or the queen, we don't know who the stranger works for. We don't know if the Queens alive..... And this is Year 2! Instead of finishing any stories that they start the just branch off again. TL;DR Basically it would be nice if we got to work with the stranger a little more especially considering she started us on our quest. And we really should get some info on the queen before starting another test.

2 RepliesWhat u stated is probably bigger then TTk...but we can hope

6 RepliesSpring? But I'm currently experiencing a stock standard hot and muggy middle of Summer. Fck waiting the best part of a year.
