They just redid matchmaking to prioritize connection over skill. Any problems with connection now are solely based on your connection and your connection to people with the same connection as you.
If you are lagging, fix your connection.

The fastest connection is worthless if you have a high latency (lag) due to high ping times. I don't know about your environment but make sure to hard wire your console to the router, wifi may be enough for high quality video streaming and fast downloading of content but usually it's crap for online gaming due to repeated package loss even under near perfect circumstances. You could also check your ping times to the world outside from a computer. There are several websites or build in tools which can tell you about the quality of your connection. Again high speed isn't everything, I'm 'just' running a 25 mbit connection here (ping around 15ms) and since yesterday after the new MM went online my connections to others are fine.
