If The Division isn't a flop..

It could spell the end for destiny. I'm not one to to say "______ is going to kill destiny", in fact I've never been, this is the first time. but I have my fair share of reasons this time. Bungies lack of planned content or lack of willingness to give us an idea of what's to come, literally doesn't give players a reason to stick around. Even if the players aren't satisfied with how the game is now, there's no reason to stick around because bungie hasnt given any signs that they're trying to fix anything. Here's what you actually do have to look forward to http://www.forbes.com/sites/insertcoin/2016/01/21/bungie-announces-small-scale-destiny-valentines-day-event-crimson-days/ https://www.vg247.com/2016/01/25/bungie-sell-destiny-ammo-packs-real-money-microtransactions/ heavy focus on pvp is starting to deter people who came for the pve aspect of the game and microtransactions are seeming to become less and less cosmetic which is starting to deter more people because they don't want to see the game become pay to win. Ammo may seem arbitrary (it's sold at the gunsmith and xur right?) but it's a foot in the door for micros that involve weapons. What do you think the next step is from here? Skins? Tess exclusive weapons? To be honest the division can't do much to kill destiny because bungie put it on its last leg on their own. With the division launching in a little over a month, and multiple destiny player demographics in shambles, the only thing the division did was be at the right place at the right time. All it has to do is not suck http://www.forbes.com/sites/insertcoin/2016/01/24/with-destiny-in-crisis-the-division-has-a-unique-chance-to-steal-its-players/#44e73b534a0b --------------------------------------------------------------------- Edit: so almost 300 comments in and I want to clarify some stuff. I know a lot of people have said different games were going to kill destiny. But this one is close enough for it to actually pull it off. But not by itself. Bungie did most of the work for them. Destiny and the division are both Shooters Open world RPG Loot based Continuous multi-player Blend of pve and pvp (light enabled crucible, darkness zones in the division) Their differences Third v first person Real sci-fi v fantasy sci-fi Many people will be drawn to it for its similarities to destiny rather than its differences. That coupled with the shape destiny is in now can mean an exodus of a large part of the player base. As long as it doesn't suck. -------------------------------------- As for everyone saying bungie confirmed the ammo micro as false, didn't they do the same thing about skill based match making? --------------------------------------------------------------------- Edit 2: 450 comments and I guess I should clarify that I don't mean the division will kill destiny as soon as it launches. If the division does take a lot of destiny's core players bungie is gonna have to build a new one. We can agree bungie has gotten enough bad press to almost deter anyone from destiny on utterance of the name. That being said, new player or old player, they're most likely skeptical of buying destiny 2 and will most likely hold off on buying it until after it actually releases. And when bungie can't get enough launch sales, that's when they die. Because I doubt activision will fund destiny 3 with those results.

  • The division is going to be good for maybe 6 months or even less. It's apparently only 3rd person. (Idk about this but friends said this) and there ha been a lot cut from it. I think it will be decent but not that good.

    • I'm downloading the division beta right now. There will be considers in the game. And the 5 mags in a guy don't bother me. It's a RPG. Seems most forget that's how RPG games are designed. And it's not supposed to be super realistic. My biggest concern is will ubi listen to the players and tweak accordingly or over tweak and destroy the game.

    • "Third person shooter" lol, it's an RPG with guns. They are not the same and FPS players will not be converting. The Division is just another title offering something new. Interested to see if they can deliver a solid cover based shooter. Gears of War has ruled that arena for sometime. The hype for this game is killing me though. Not hating, I'm going to buy/play The Division. That said, Destiny stands alone. But what I can't wrap my head around is that most of the community does not see that The Division stands alone as well. Both Destiny and The Division offer something that no developer has done before but in no way is one going to kill the other IMO.

      • I don't know if it'll even come close to finishing off Destiny. But I hope it does. The game makes me wonder what might have happened if Bungie embraced the RPG-like elements when making Destiny instead of wimping out and keeping it so close to a standard shooter that it turned into something weird. Destiny is fun while it lasts, but the problem is it runs out of meaningful content and Bungie just hasn't been talking (the CEO change announced today also makes me wonder if they're having any kind of drama going on within the company). Meanwhile, the Division seems to be doing what it aims for pretty damn well and I expect to enjoy it quite a bit.

      • Not a Destiny fan, but it won't kill Destiny. What the small minority of hardcore players here don't realize is most people who actually play this game maybe play 2-3 hours a day and are still working through Taken King content at this point. This game was made for casuals and no matter how many hundreds of hardcores complain, millions of casuals will still play the game and make Bungie money. This is why Bungie has remained silent and never addresses the community when they have major complaints, because they realize this small minority doesn't amount to a large sum of money at the end of the day. The casual mass will still pre-order/buy Destiny 2 and still spends tons of money on Silver. Destiny is basically their next generation of COD. People cry and complain about COD every year and say it's dying, but it still does tons in sales and preorders and maintains a huge casual fanbase. This is basically Destiny's model in a nutshell as well.

Everyone from the content creators including JackFrags, AngryJoe, OpenWorldGames, etc say the same... The gameplay is spot on, fluid and on PC gorgeous graphics. Consoles lack behind abit, but thats no surprise considering their age. All of them tho raised a quiestion... And me including... Will the end game last and deliver enough diversity? Ubisoft delayed the game alot so it seems like they really care for a polished game on release, BUT iam very worried about the lack of open beta... The servers wont be stressed enough during the closed beta and Ubisoft might have underestimated the amount of ppl playing it on release and we end up with server crashes and lags. Still my main worry is the end game conten and its longevity. PS: also the "bullet sponge" mini bosses isnt my cup of tea aswell... I mean destiny has that too, but its abit different to shoot 5 minutes into a huge creature and empty 20 magazines into a human like in Division. And will The Division kill Destiny? HELL NO. They share the same "MMO style" mechanics, but are completely different. One is a FPS shooter and one is a 3rd person shooter. They both will have a healty community and stable playerbase. And who knows... if GTA V pulled a FPS mode patch then why not also Division in the future :)

            • I like destiny. But the division will be the first game to come along in over a year to drag me away. Played the Alpha and I loved it. I've got the beta downloaded, just waiting for it to go live. I don't know how closely any of you followed the division's development but they played a ton of destiny and said they were fans of it. Some might see that as bad sign, I dont. Developers are gamers too. I view them playing destiny as a good thing. It means they likely viewed destiny's pro's and con's through the lens of both developer and a gamer. When bungie drops a new dlc and/or big update, sure I'll come back. But I'm all in on the Division. It won't be perfect out of the box. But what AAA title is these days? It will have growing pains, but I'm ok with that. Bring it on. See you New York, agents.

              • The Division: forced third person. Yuck. That's 1 yuck. A pretty big yuck at that. The Division: PvEvP. When you leave the zone, you have to wait for a helicopter for a few minutes. You are loaded with loot and you become a resource harvesting node for other players. Double yuck. That's 2 yucks, 2 big yucks. There are a total of 3 yucks right off the bat. I usually give games 5 yucks before I turf them.

                    • You know the Divisions been in production for awhile right? Am I the only one who remembers that the division and destiny been revealed at the same time? Anyone? Anyone?? That's a real bad sign if a game is taking this long to be released. "OH CLOSE A DOOR, SO EPIC, I AM SOLD NOW" Pfft yeah get outta here. Watch Dogs looked ground breaking and like a top tier amazing game. But look what happened there. And wait. Who made WatchDogs? Come on people, who made watchdogs? The division will be a flop. Fallout4 was so hyped to kill destiny. The Witcher, Titanfall, what was that other game? Evolve I think? There is just so many games people assume are great, but always end up 2nd to Destiny. People try to hate Destiny, but always crawl back to do the nightfall, do the raid challenges, play some Trials, get a free legendary from strikes, buy a legendary with their marks, do paradox for 3 free legendaries, play Ironbanner. People say they hate Destiny but they just won't stop playing. Even look at the people who "quit destiny" They still sneak on for Trials and a raid for the challenges.... Just face it people, Destiny is a game, people secretly love it, just to narrow minded to admit it.

All over the forums there's posts about "BUNGIE I QUIT" and "BOYCOTT DESTINY" but 9/10 times the people posting that stuff end up still being super active players

                      • I've played Destiny almost everyday since launch. I've had some great memory's created by it. I will be playing The Division Beta this weekend. Destiny for about 8 months was all PvE for me, then I turned to the crucible at HoW. Now it's mainly PvP due to lack of PvE content, occasionally raiding. The Division for me is mainly to fill in for the lack of PvE content and poor situation of the crucible. As it stands I would expect that Destiny is turned on for a bit of crucible when The Division becomes slow or friends aren't about for Dark Zone activities. Once the summer is out of the way it will be back to evaluating the next purchase, which of course rumours speculate, no "new" Destiny (probably a poor dlc with raid based on cabal rumours). Q3 releases will have been headlined and if some of the other well known PvP orientated games are due (and Destiny still has no {[honesty]} private matches, etc...) then I would presume one of those will take what's left of Destiny from me. If a "New" Destiny arrives in the future, then currently I need alot of {[Honesty]} information on its future to convince me to purchase it. Hats off to our community manager for working in his environment, although it does explain why he always looks distant on stream's. At no point have I referred to any game being better or worse than Destiny, the point is {[Honesty]}, new content whether it be Destiny or A.N.Other. Happy Rifting Guardians ;)

                      • I'll never forget when they dumped the original story... Destiny was only "enjoyable " when playing with friends. This is coming from a guy who prefers story/single player/ open world games. I hated all the "stories" in all 3 DLCs. Calling them stories is a stretch. Main reason I stopped playing.
